Welcome to this review of WWE Crown Jewel 2024, right here on Nerdly… The controversy over this event seems to die down with each and every event passing and I’m not sure how I feel about that. Anyway, let’s see what happened during this year’s show, which was marked by the champ versus champ matches for the newly-minted Crown Jewel belts!
Match #1: The Bloodline def. Roman Reigns and The Usos The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Solo Sikoa earned the biggest pinfall of his career by earning the three-count over Roman Reigns and anointing himself as the one true Tribal Chief of The Bloodline. The Usos kicked things off by bringing back their signature tandem offense, but it wasn’t long before The Samoan Werewolf brought the fight back to them, leading to a tense standoff. Match #1: Liv Morgan def. Tiffany Stratton The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Despite Nia Jax distracting the official on the ring apron and kicking the Money in the Bank briefcase to Tiffany Stratton to use against Liv Morgan, the Women’s World Champion avoided the hit and rolled up her opponent for the three-count while grabbing the tights. When Morgan attempted to use the briefcase on Jax after the bell, though, the WWE Women’s Champion took it away from her and used it on Liv, Raquel Rodregez and “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio before crushing her WWE Crown Jewel opponent with the Annihilator.

Shelton Benjamin proves age really is just a number. Now 49 years old, the respected veteran looks better than ever in All Elite Wrestling. This is almost 25 years since the amateur standout began his path into the business alongside a starstudded WWE developmental class made up of John Cena, Brock Lesnar, Dave Bautista, and Randy Orton. Today, he remains one of the most decorated and respected veterans. So, when Benjamin’s time with WWE came up, it didn’t take long before Tony Khan worked to recruit the performer out of free agency. He emerged in Aew alongside his former Hurt Business running mate in Mvp. Together in a matter of weeks, they’ve wasted no time entering the mix. Benjamin is set to take on former Aew Champ Swerve Strickland during “Fright Night Dynamite” on October 30. Here Benjamin tells us why he chose Aew and what he wants out of this run.

Match #1: Kelani Jordan, Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill def. Fatal Influence The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Nxt Women’s North American Champion Kelani Jordan found the perfect backup to battle Fatal Influence as she and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill crushed Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley and Jazmyn Nyx. The former Nxt Women’s Champion Belair shined against all three members of Fatal Influence before tagging in Cargill, who launched a willing Jordan onto a downed Henley. Fatal Influence managed to take control for a time, but it wasn’t long before the dream team of Belair, Cargill and Jordan won the match via Jordan’s incredible Split-Legged Moonsault.

Almost everyone in Hollywood has participated, or at least been reported to be participating, in a superhero property. It's simply the latest big trend that employs everyone in a union (unless you're a VFX worker), just like crime procedurals employed every actor who later broke big once upon a time. Whether a celebrated and legendary actor like Harrison Ford, or an indie director like Ryan Coogler, no one is safe from the superhero movie industrial complex.
The latest beloved actor to join a superhero franchise is Kyle Chandler, the greatest dad actor, who has been tapped to star as Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern TV series that is part of James Gunn's fledgling DC universe. Accepting the responsibility of the Power Ring and fight for the Green Lantern Corps, Chandler reportedly beat rumored contenders for the role like Josh Brolin. The Green Lantern TV show is set to...

"Deadpool 2" is known for many things. It was the sequel to one of the biggest R-rated hits in cinema history. It also did the classic thing of going bigger than its predecessor, with larger action set pieces and more characters from throughout the Marvel universe -- most notably, the time-traveling mutant Cable, a fan-favorite from the comics who was played by Josh Brolin in the film. But before Brolin landed the part, a certain WWE superstar auditioned for the role.
Randy Orton, aka The Viper, was recently a guest on the WWE talk show "What Do You Wanna Talk About?" During the conversation, the longtime staple of the ring revealed that he auditioned for the role of Cable, which would have been by far his biggest foray into Hollywood to date. As Orton explained in the interview, his journey with the character was a short one:
"I do auditions here and there.

Randy Orton is widely known for his presence in the wrestling rings and his iconic Rko move. But beyond the squared circle, the 14-time World Heavyweight Champion has another passion that might surprise many—gaming.

Only a handful of professional wrestlers have successfully made the leap from the squared circle to Hollywood. Having existed within the federation for years, he became integral to the very foundations of the sport, being an important figure to date. John Cena’s catchphrase, “You can’t see me!”, will soon enough be a reality, as the WWE legend announced his retirement at this weekend’s Money in the Bank. During Saturday’s event, a special moment was given to Cena – who wasn’t expected to be in attendance – so he could tell the crowd when his final five-knuckle shuffle would be coming.

The previous episodes of House of the Dragon Season 2 were filled with intense brutality that certainly shocked and made everyone’s stomach turn. That’s a trademark of the show, after all, and author George R.R. Martin seemed very pleased so far with its progress.

Some fans aren’t that impressed, though, and some do not agree with the author’s take on specific aspects. They believed Martin’s praise for the show wasn’t genuine at all.

Once upon a time, John Cena and Nikki Bella’s relationship, caught even those of us who weren’t wrestling aficionados, in its irresistible grip. Who doesn’t root for love, especially when it plays out so publicly between two giants of the WWE Universe?
Like a storyline straight out of the ring, their romance had us on the edge of our seats, cheering and gasping in equal measure. After all, when a 16-time WWE world champion like Cena publicly proposes at WrestleMania 33, it’s more than a match—it’s a fairy tale. Yet, in a twist that left fans reeling, the power couple called off their engagement just before their planned wedding in 2018.

Cena, not just a titan in the ring with iconic rivalries against the likes of The Rock and Randy Orton, has also flexed his acting muscles in hits like The Suicide Squad.

The best WWE PPVs are more than great wrestling cards. For fans, they are the milestone moments that chart the evolution of not just storylines and feuds but our fandom for this often silly (and sometimes worse) business. They’re not only filled with great matches, hot crowds, and all-time moments, but those special, often indefinable qualities that can put a smile on your face just by thinking of them.
For that reason, we’re looking back at the very best PPVs in WWE history. Just keep in mind that we’re only looking at WWE PPVs (and PLEs) for this list. That means no PPVs produced by other promotions and no Nxt shows. Those shows are more than worthy of their own lists.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill needed everything in their arsenals to walk out as champions during a spirited title bout with Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell. LeRae and Hartwell isolated and hobbled Belair, ruthlessly targeting the injury The Est suffered at the hands of The Poison Pixie a few weeks ago. Unfortunately for LeRae and Hartwell, a Storm was coming. Belair tagged in Cargill, and her unbelievable strength and athleticism more than evened the odds.

The much-anticipated King & Queen of the Ring came and went in front of another raucous international crowd, giving us an afternoon of solid wrestling and setting some future storylines into motion.
This premium live event had some added weight to it with the King & Queen matches, which we found out recently would give the winners a title shot at Summerslam
Crowing a King, and more recently a Queen, had been a staple of the WWE, with some of the most famous moments in the company's history coming during the event.
Think 'Austin 3:16 said I just whopped your ass' for starters.
But the matches that supplied their winners with crowns were just two on a heavy card that saw multiple titles up for grabs and ended up being a damn good time.
We're not here to break down the ins and outs of the matches. But we are here to...

Match #1: Street Fight – Solo Sikoa & Tama Tonga def. Randy Orton & Kevin Owens The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Before the match could even begin, all four Superstars engaged in a massive melee with WWE officials, including SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, who was attempting to break up the brawl. A fed up Aldis decided to forgo the original tag team rules, turning the bout into a Street Fight. The chaos only heightened with the introduction of weapons including Kendo sticks, trash cans, tables and even the Prime hydration station being used as instruments of destruction. Both teams traded blows with Owens splashing Tonga through a table while Sikoa nearly simultaneously put Orton through a table with a Samoan Drop.
