Davi Jay
- Actor
Davi Jay's love for acting began at an early age and took root when he
landed his first professional paid acting gig at the age of 16 playing
the lead role of Jesus Christ in the theatrical production of
"Godspell". The stage became his home over the course of the next few
decades. He studied Theater and Debate at the Texas Southern University
and received "Outstanding Performer of the Year" in 1985 at Nationals
as a member of the T.S.U. Debate Team. After college Davi Jay joined
the cast of over 40 various stage productions, often earning the lead
role and gracing the theatrical stages from New York to California and
enjoying performing in his home town Houston, TX. In May of 2007 after
playing the lead, Walter Lee in the stage production of "A Raisin in
the Sun" he decided to focus his attention on Film/TV and by September
2007 he landed a recurring role as Papo on Fox's "Prison Break"
followed by the role of Marcus Spires in "Friday Night Lights" the same
year. Davi Jay continues to focus his time in film and television and
has enjoyed a four year run as the character Robinette on HBO's TREME,
the medical examiner on True Detectives and the role of Tony on The
Walking Dead, to name a few.
Even though his time is focused on TV/Film his second passion for music remains and he is never far from the stage as he continues his 20+ year role as the lead singer in the Houston based band - Bourbon Street the Band.
In 2011 Davi Jay co-founded a non-profit organization called Nola's Angels which is dedicated to raising money for deserving charities through musical and theatrical productions. He has shared his "smooth crooner style" voice by singing at various fund-raising events benefiting such charities as Trumpets Not Guns, the Musician's Clinic of New Orleans, Jazz Heritage Foundation, Roots of Music, Tipitina's Foundation and more.
