This War of the Worlds review contains spoilers.
Dieu merci! My prayers were answered. After two action-heavy, plot-stuffed episodes that replaced atmosphere with incident, this week War of the Worlds got back to what really matters: existential discussions over red wine and 20-year-old songs about the fragility of mortal life. A bomb went off too, for those who prefer their apocalypse more fast and furious. Something for everybody.
While the London crew were being blasted apart in every sense, Catherine, Sophia and Nathan were grieving, healing and connecting in a French farmhouse. After the attack on the Observatory, they’d holed up in the university library to search for references to Professor Bill Ward without the help of Google or the Ctrl+F function. Eventually, his author blurb was spotted on the back of a book. Now, they’re all on his trail and en route to London, having picked...

The CW released the first look at Azie Tesfai’s Guardian, who will appear in the sixth and final season of “Supergirl.”
Kelly Olsen (Tesfai) will take on the mantle of Guardian in the second half of the final season. The series previously hinted that Kelly will take up the mantle left by her brother, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), which will come to fruition in the upcoming episode “Blind Spots.” Co-written by Tesfai and co-producer J. Holtham, the episode is said to address racial inequality. “Arrow” star David Ramsey will direct the episode and reprise his role of John Diggle.
“Supergirl” follows the DC character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), who balances her work as a reporter for CatCo Worldwide Media with keeping National City safe from sinister threats as the titular superhero. The series also stars Tesfai, David Harewood, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines and Katie McGrath. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter,...

Eerie, desolate sci-fi series War of the Worlds aired in France in late 2019 and earlier this year in the Us and UK. Less an adaptation of the titular H.G. Wells novel than a contemporary riff on the alien invasion thriller by creator Howard Overman, it resolutely ploughed its own furrow. Moody, atmospheric, bleak and emotional, it swapped red weed, tripods and heat rays for a grief-soaked meditation on family and survival… with terrifying alien robot sniper dogs.
The series’ second run commission has been an open secret for months, but the official stamp was announced this weekend, with filming due to begin on Monday the 13th of July after a dry run of the new Covid-19 filming protocol took place last Friday.
Deadline, speaking to Urban Myth producer Johnny Capps reported on the meticulous planning and procedures in place to film the second series in the midst of a global coronavirus pandemic.

This War Of The Worlds review contains spoilers.
War of the Worlds Episodes 1 and 2
No ‘The’. That’s how to distinguish this TV version of H.G. Wells’ alien invasion classic from the one that aired late last year. That was The War Of The Worlds, this one’s just War Of The Worlds – no definite article, more casual, more approachable, more modern.
Of course, as a French-us co-production, they might have gone with La War Of The Worlds, but that would just have been silly.
There is nothing silly about this opening double-bill. It’s deathly serious, a paranoid invasion thriller that rivals even the Six O’Clock news in its evocation of dread. It’s so sombre, in fact, that watching it is almost a relief, given our current situation. To finally see the world fall apart and any semblance of normality poof into the air as people...
