“American Rust” has been canceled again.
Amazon Prime Video has opted not to move forward with a third season of the series, Variety has confirmed. Amazon had picked up a second season of the series after it was canceled at its original network home, Showtime, in January 2022. It was originally slated to air on Freevee before it was shifted to Prime Video. All 10 episodes of the second season dropped on March 28.
The first season of the show was based on the Philipp Meyer novel of the same name. Season 2 of “American Rust” was officially titled “American Rust: Broken Justice.” Jeff Daniels led the series along with Maura Tierney, David Alvarez, Alex Neustaedter, Julie Mayorga, Mark Pellegrino, Rob Yang, and Kyle Beltran. Luna Lauren Velez, Marc Menchaca, Nick Sandow, Britian Seibert, Christopher Denham, Amelia Workman, Leon Addison Brown, and Sara Lindsey all joined the show in Season 2.

American Rust has been canceled for a second time. Prime Video has opted not to renew the drama starring Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney for a third season, Deadline has confirmed. The news comes four months after Season 2, titled American Rust: Broken Justice, premiered on the platform and had a quiet run.
The cancellation was foreshadowed by the recent casting of Tierney as a new series regular on NBC’s Law & Order.
American Rust has a long history. It initially was ordered straight-to-series at USA Network in November 2017, but a few months later, the network opted not to move forward with it. At the time, sources said the order was contingent on the producers finding a big star for the lead, which didn’t happen. It then moved to Showtime, with Daniels attached to star and executive produce, where it was picked up and aired for one season. The...

Jeff Daniels as eternally glum police chief Del Harris returns for a widening murder conspiracy in the second-season trailer for American Rust: Broken Justice, which dropped Monday.
After the sudden, mysterious death of a former police officer in Pennsylvania’s rust belt in the rookie season is not quite solved by Harris, to say the least, the second-season trailer for American Rust: Broken Justice returns to the fictional town of Buell, where a compromised Del and Grace Poe (Maura Tierney) try to rebuild their lives.
That’s until the trailer reveals a series of unrelated murders that may add up to a much larger conspiracy closing in on a tight-knit town. “We never really do move on, do we?” Del questions at one point.
The fateful wrench from the first-season finale cover-up surfaces, as does Del fretting over how to protect the murder suspect and son of his sometimes girlfriend Grace.

Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney drama American Rust is returning for its second season — on its third platform.
Amazon announced that the sophomore run — titled American Rust: Broken Justice — will premiere on its Prime Video platform rather than the previously announced ad-supported service Freevee. All 10 episodes of the season will debut in a binge drop on March 28.
The drama was originally developed for Showtime, which canceled the show after its first season aired. Freevee picked up American Rust for season 2 in June 2022, with the show now airing on the Amazon flagship service. With Amazon having formally added ads to its Prime Video platform, Freevee programming has been migrating to the larger Prime Video.

Image: Paramount Pictures Writer-director Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise have given audiences such all-timer action movies as Mission: Impossible—Fallout and Top Gun: Maverick, but it was Jack Reacher, an underrated thriller released 10 years ago this week, on December 19, 2012, that launched their successful partnership. Mount Whitney is the highest summit in Sierra Nevada and the contiguous United States. Every year, many people hike the 22-mile trail. The new thriller “Blue Jay” follows a young couple doing just that when they discover a mysterious group of mountain men who develop a dark obsession with the young woman. The film stars Sara Lindsey (“Concussion”), James Landry Hébert (“Taken”) and Travis Aaron Wade (“Supernatural”). Lindsey co-wrote the film with her then-fiancé Michael Ciulla, who also directed the feature and based it on a hiking experience he had in his own life. Watch an exclusive clip from the film below featuring Ashley (Lindsey) trying to evade the men.

Hot on the heels of our list of great survival movies, here's another one with potential to make the next list.
Generally speaking, trailers that borrow either music or editing from other trailers or movies are more grating than effective but once in a while, one comes along that manages to impress and the trailer for Blue Jay does just that.
The indie thriller co-written and directed by Michael Ciulla stars Sara Lindsey (who also co-wrote) as Ashley, a woman who goes on a hiking date that takes a turn for the worse when she and her date meet a group of mountain men, led by James Landry Hébert (of Two Step ( [Continued ...]...

Promised Land
Written by John Krasinski and Matt Damon, based on a story by Dave Eggers
Directed by Gus Van Sant
2012, USA, imdb, Josh Spiegel’s much more positive review
I walked out of the theatre disliking Promised Land and the more I reflect on the film, the less I like it.
On paper, there is a lot to love about the film: strong performances by John Krasinski and Matt Damon, supported by an excellent cast including Frances McDormand, Titus Welliver and Hal Halbrook; solid direction by Gus Van Sant, supported with gorgeous cinematography by Linus Sandgren and crisp editing by Billy Rich. And for a brief minute, during the impromptu debate between high school teacher Frank Yates (Hal Holbrook) and gas fracking advocate Steve Butler (Matt Damon), it seems like Promised Land has something to say about the death of nuance in political discourse, about the way that the...
