With Halloween officially over, it’s time for Christmas movies. While the Hallmark+ streaming app has hundreds of holiday movies, some of their favorites from 2023 are not yet on the app but have been added to Netflix.

Hallmark Channel officially launched the 15th annual Countdown to Christmas event in October (full schedule here), with new movies airing each weekend and holiday movies now streaming 24/7. Before Gloria Calderón Kellett landed on developing “With Love,” a holiday rom-com, as the first title under her overall deal with Amazon Studios, she took six months to “sit in my feelings to figure out what was the new thing that I wanted to say,” the writer-producer-director recalls.

Calderón Kellett had spent the last few years on a roller coaster of emotions with her multicamera reboot of “One Day at a Time,” which first launched on Netflix in 2017, only to be canceled by the streamer after three seasons. Fledgling cabler Pop TV picked up the show for a fourth season, which ended up truncated after the Covid-19 pandemic put a halt on production, and that network canceled the show months later (and has since gotten out of the originals game altogether). For all that complicated business, though, she was still creatively fulfilled by the art she was making on the show.

Any show juggling multiple relationship dynamics gives itself the gift of possibility and the challenge of balancing it all at once. While it gets to tell several stories instead of relying on just one, some characters can easily fall through the cracks, or else become far less compelling when weighed against the others. Such is the case for “With Love,” a new Amazon Prime Video rom-com series from Gloria Calderón Kellett (“One Day at a Time”) that shines bright in some narratives and falls disappointingly flat in others.

The Normal Heart, Larry Kramer’s famed play following the start of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, will take on a new form during a historic virtual table read on May 8.

For the first time, an almost entirely Black, LGBTQ and Poc cast of actors will star in the show, led by Sterling K. Brown, Laverne Cox and Jeremy Pope.

Vincent Rodriguez III, Guillermo Díaz, Jake Borelli, Ryan O’Connell, Daniel Newman, Jay Hayden and Danielle Savre will round out the cast, and Martin Sheen, star of the original London production in 1986, will also provide a special introduction.

Sterling K. Brown, Laverne Cox, Jeremy Pope and Jake Borelli are among the all-star cast of a virtual benefit reading of Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart, to be directed by Paris Barclay.

The May 8 reading, to raise funds for One Archives Foundation and Invisible Histories Project, will include a special introduction by Martin Sheen.

Rounding out the cast are Vincent Rodriguez III (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend): Guillermo Díaz (Scandal); Jake Borelli (Grey’s Anatomy); Ryan O’Connell (Will & Grace); Daniel Newman (Walking Dead); Jay Hayden (Station 19); and Danielle Savre (Station 19). The reading, according to producers, will mark the first performance of Kramer’s Tony-winning play to be performed by a predominately Bipoc and LGBTQ cast.

SAG-AFTRA members are speaking out about hate crimes and discrimination against Asian-Americans, many of whom have been targeted by their fellow citizens during the coronavirus pandemic. President Donald Trump, who is a member of the union, has even called the virus the “Kung Flu.”

Patty’s at it again! Netflix on Monday released the trailer for Insatiable‘s upcoming second season (Oct. 11), teasing more insane shenanigans courtesy of Debby Ryan‘s bloodthirsty beauty queen character.

Netflix's controversial series Insatiable will be back on the streamer for its sophomore season this October.

The streamer has revealed that the series will return Friday, October 11, launching all episodes of its second season at once -- over a year after the freshman run's August 2018 launch.

As geek TV goes, the CW has a pretty great track record for letting shows run. Outside of their comic book shows, they're the network that gave Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna the space to tell the whole story of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend over a full four seasons, as planned, in spite of being (as bluntly as co-creator Bloom once put it) “the lowest-rated show on network television.”

It’s time to say goodbye to West Covina — at least for now. The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend season finale aired tonight and instead of going out with a full-out musical number with a fanfare of joy, creators Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna delivered an intimate show that played like a love letter to fans while celebrating the unique storytelling and heroine of the CW comedy. But if you are looking for a party, don’t worry. The CW aired Yes, It’s Really Us Singing: The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Concert Special! after the finale which was essentially a wrap party for everyone to celebrate the show.

Yes, the finale had its fair share of quirks expected from Bloom’s Rebecca Bunch, but it was thoughtful and heartwarming — like saying goodbye to your best friend who was a drama geek in high school.

After four seasons of sending up romantic comedy tropes, expanding the quintessential love triangle into a quadrangle, and delivering 157 original music videos, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” came to an end without a romantic resolution for Rebecca Bunch (Rachel Bloom).

“What we wanted to show is that usually love is on a pedestal as an answer, and it’s not an answer and we should stop telling people that it is an answer. It’s that last puzzle piece [but] you are your own puzzle piece,” co-creator and showrunner Aline Brosh McKenna, who also directed the finale, tells Variety.

The end of the series finale jumped forward in time a year, during which Rebecca was working toward a newly realized dream of writing music, and ended with her about to debut a song she wrote for the first time.
