Ruti Tamir
Stage and film actress, mime actress, director and theater creator. Born in 1967 in Tel Aviv , Israel, to Gabriela Timen (extremely gifted woman all around) and Avigdor Tamir (toy importer/exporter). As the grand-daughter of Yaakov Timen, founding member of the satirical "The Broom" theater in Tel Aviv , Ruti felt a strong connection to the stage since she was born, inventing characters (including full costume , names and accents) and performing at home from around age 4. Started taking dance classes at age 6 and following a teacher's recommendation, her mother took her at age 10 to the highly commended Bat Dor school for Dance, following the British RAD technique, where Ruti was awarded scholarships for extra classes in Graham modern dance technique .
At age 14, with dreams of becoming a dancer/ choreographer, her life changed when her parents decided to move to the USA, to Miami, Florida. Two years later she was accepted to a special high school arts program , later known as the New World school of Arts in Miami. She auditioned for both the theater and dance departments and was accepted to both, so a special program was created for her- so she could attend classes in both departments.
