Clayton Davis is the Senior Awards Editor at Variety, the legendary 117-year-old Hollywood industry trade publication.
Davis joined Variety in September 2020 as film awards editor, coming from his self-owned Awards Circuit, the company and website he founded where he served as editor-in-chief.
At Variety, he's covered all things related to Academy Awards, Primetime Emmy Awards and other awards show ceremonies, which includes breaking news and penning various cover stories such as Denzel Washington, Ke Huy Quan, Troy Kotsur, and Spike Lee.
An award-winning journalist, he was selected as one of 2022 and 2023's Imagen's Influential Latinos in Media, as well as the recipient of the Excellence in Entertainment Journalism Award by NALIP, and won a Telly Award for co-programming the inaugural Celebration of Latino Cinema for the Critics Choice Association, where he is a board member. I'm 2023, he was nominated as Online Journalist of the Year by the SOCAL Entertainment Journalists Awards.
Along with his writing duties, Davis serves as co-host of the weekly podcast series "Awards Circuit," creator of Variety's documentary filmmaker interview series "Doc Dreams," and Variety's weekly video news series "The Take," for which he won the LA Press Club award for best host/anchor in 2022. In addition, the multimedia hyphenate has made multiple TV and radio appearances commentating on pop culture and current events. Most notable is as a commentator for ABC News' "Oscars Countdown, LIVE," the pre-show for the Academy Awards ceremony from 2020-2023.
