Betty Hutton was born Elizabeth June Thornburg on February 26, 1921, in Battle Creek, Michigan. Two years later, Betty's father decided that the family way of life wasn't for him, so he left (he committed suicide 16 years later). Having to fend for themselves, Mrs. Thornburg moved the family to Detroit to find work in the numerous auto factories there, but times were hard and she decided to take advantage of Prohibition and opened a small tavern, at the time called a speakeasy. The police were always looking for those types of operation, both big and small, and when they detected one, they swooped in and closed it down. Mrs. Thornburg was no different from the other owners, they simply moved elsewhere. Poverty was a constant companion. In addition to that, Mrs. Thornburg was an alcoholic.
At nine years old, Betty began singing publicly for the first time in a school production. Realizing the voice Betty had, her mother took her around Detroit to have her sing to any group that would listen. This was a small way of getting some money for the poor family. When she was 13, Betty got a few singing jobs with local bands in the area. Thinking she was good enough to make the big time, she left for New York two years later to try a professional career. Unfortunately, it didn't work out and Betty headed back to Detroit.
In 1937, Betty was hired by Vincent Lopez who had a popular band that appeared on the local radio. Later, she would return to New York and it was here that her career took off. Betty found herself on Broadway in 1940, and it was only a matter of time before her career took off to bigger heights. The following year, she left New York for Hollywood, where she was to find new life in films. She was signed by Paramount Pictures and made her debut, at 21, in The Fleet's In (1942), along with Eddie Bracken, William Holden and Dorothy Lamour. Reviews were better than expected, with critics looking favorably upon her work. She had previously appeared in a few musical shorts, which no doubt helped her in her first feature film. She made one more musical in 1942 and two more in 1943.
In 1944, she tried to break away from musicals and try her hand in a screwball comedy, The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (1943). She proved - to herself, the public and the critics - that she was marketable outside musicals. In subsequent films, Betty was able to show her comedic side as well as her singing. In 1948, she appeared in her first big box-office bomb, Dream Girl (1948), which was ripped to shreds by critics, as was Betty's acting, and the movie flopped at the box office. It wasn't long before Betty became unhappy with her career. In truth, she had the acting talent, but the parts she got weren't the types to showcase that. Though she did appear in three well-received films later, Red, Hot and Blue (1949), Annie Get Your Gun (1950) and The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), her career was winding down.
Later, after filming Somebody Loves Me (1952), Betty was all but finished. She had married Charles O'Curran that year and he wanted to direct her in an upcoming film. Paramount didn't like the idea and the temper tantrum-prone Betty walked out of her contract and movies. She did concentrate on the relatively new medium of television and the stage, but she never recovered her previous form. Her final film was a minor one, Spring Reunion (1956). Her TV series, The Betty Hutton Show (1959), didn't fare too well at all. Betty lived in quiet retirement in Palm Springs, California until her death on March 11, 2007. She was 86 years old.- Director

Dick Martin, the comedian and television director who achieved TV immortality as the co-host of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In (1967) as the comic foil to straight man Dan Rowan, was born on January 30, 1922 in Battle Creek, Michigan. The young Martin was a writer for the popular radio sit-com "Duffy's Tavern" before teaming up with Rowan in the 1950s. The duo achieved success playing the nightclub circuit and Las Vegas, leading to Martin's being cast in a recurring role on The Lucy Show (1962) as series start Lucille Ball's next door neighbor "Harry Conners" when Lucy's new series debuted in 1962, Martin remained as a regular on "Lucy" through the 1963-64 season.
As the success of their act increased, Rowan & Martin began making appearances on TV during the 1960s. In 1966, the duo were cast as the co-hosts for the The Dean Martin Summer Show (1966) on NBC. The following year, when NBC decided it wanted a new comic variety show that would have cross-generational appeal, producers Ed Friendly and George Schlatter hired Rowan & Martin to co-host a one-time special, "Laugh-In", that would serve as a pilot for the potential series. The special was a success, and Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In (1967) debuted the following year. It was a smash hit, proving to be one of the top-rated shows of the late 1960s, and had a huge impact on American pop culture during the first years of its five-year run. The series was canceled in 1973.
In 1969, Rowan & Martin made an attempt to recapture the small-screen magic of "Laugh-In" on the big screen, but The Maltese Bippy (1969) was a flop. After the cancellation of their series, Rowan & Martin generally parted ways, professionally, as Dan Rowan was a diabetic and limited his work. Like Rowan, Martin became a frequent panelist on game shows such as Match Game (1973). He also hosted the Mindreaders (1979) game show in 1979, but the show was not a success. Martin eventually launched a new career as a TV director, serving as the chief director of the 1980s sitcom, Newhart (1982).
On the personal front, Martin was most known for his two marriages to Playboy Playmate of the Year Dolly Read (1971-75; 1978-present). Mary Pascoe's wide range of talents align themselves to all sorts of facets of our daily lives. The odds are good that you have already seen a TV show, movie, or commercial containing a Mary Pascoe appearance. From "Mad Men" to "Mona Lisa Smile", this red-haired singing comic can do it all.
You have probably seen her singing both serious and funny songs while playing various instruments on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, or at such world famous venues across the country as the Viper Room, the Whisky, and the Keyclub.
She performs stand-up comedy and music nearly every night of the week in Los Angeles (Flappers Comedy Club, Jon Lovitz Comedy Club, Hollywood & Highland's Koji's), producing many of the shows herself, and has shared stages with stars such as Keenen Ivory Wayans, Kyle Gass, and Jill Sobule.
Crowds go nuts over her spot-on impressions of hundreds of others, such as Amanda Bynes, Miley Cyrus, Zooey Deschanel, Britney Spears, Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, Sarah Palin, and so many more. She is thrilled and thankful to work for NBC, Bravo, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, FOX, AMC, MTV, VH1, ABC, CBS, and many other networks.
This highly energetic entertainer from Battle Creek, Michigan throws herself full force into her work, and it is for this very reason that she can often seem to be in multiple places at once.
A proud SAG-AFTRA Member, Pascoe honed her craft early in life, singing and tap dancing in regional theatre as a child. She has trained extensively in acting, gymnastics, competitive cheer, dance, storytelling, broadcasting (named the State Champion by the Michigan Interscholastic Forensic Assocation), and even mime, and loves learning lots of new things each day.
At the age of 16, Pascoe headed to the prestigious Wellesley College, where she loved her classes in Robotics, Creative Writing, and Theatre (surprise!), and her award-winning Graphic/Website Design Company grew exponentially.
She soon graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Women's Studies, and hopped in her Jeep to head West, where she gratefully found a great deal of on-screen television work.
"LA Weekly" gives their "GO" stamp of approval for Pascoe's recent theatrical work. She hosts and guest stars on a number of radio shows and podcasts, including Playboy Radio's "Your Date with Destiny" on Sirius XM, "Decently Funny with Nuzzy and the Guy", and "The Pretty Good Podcast".
Always the self-starter, Pascoe wrote and produced her own 15 track album called "Who Brings a Cat to the Disco?" in 2006, including 3 bonus poems with Pascoe's own special brand of voice-over.
"Ginga Ninja, Foo!" is the second full-length album produced by Pascoe's own label, Crabble Dabble Entertainment, this time with her comedy band, the Raging Peanuts, 2010 Winners of the Hollywood G Club's Comedy Contest.
The Raging Peanuts grew out of the web series, "ROCKSTARS", for which Pascoe was the Creator and Showrunner, and they have held popular residencies at several LA hot spots, including Universal Bar & Grill, Max Steiners, and the Glendon.
Find Mary Pascoe and the Raging Peanuts on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Rhapsody, CD Baby, Target.com, and retailers everywhere.
