- Bartender: I've seen a man take two drinks of that stuff and go out and hunt bear with a willow switch.
- Reb Kittredge: What did he want the switch for?
- Reb Kittredge: I guess that squares us, Johnny.
- Johnny Lake: I'm glad to hear it, Reb. I never did like to shoot my friends.
- Reb Kittredge: The last time I saw you, you was down in Denver. Why did you leave?
- Cora Dufrayne: Why did you?
- Reb Kittredge: I had a reason.
- Cora Dufrayne: You had twelve reasons... each one of 'em had a gun in his hand. I understand you got run out of Wyoming, too.
- Reb Kittredge: Yeah.
- Cora Dufrayne: Well, you've got a pretty good record. Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Wyoming...
- Reb Kittredge: I'm young yet.
- Cora Dufrayne: You've run out of states, too.
- Reb Kittredge: I understand there's lots of room left in Canada.
- Reb Kittredge: Place a man can bed down for the night?
- Hotel clerk: I'll t-tell you Mr. Kittredge, there's a real nice hotel right down the street. Probably you'd like it a lot better down there.
- Reb Kittredge: Why?
- Hotel clerk: We, uh, we've got mice.
- Reb Kittredge: I won't bother them.
- Curly Mather: I've been watching you two. I don't like what I see.
- Rita: Maybe you better stop looking.
- Doc Farrell: You sound as though you liked him.
- Dan Saxon: Why not?
- Doc Farrell: Well, if someone was out to shoot me, I think I could work up a reasonable dislike for him.
- Dan Saxon: Ah, he's just doing his job. You can't hate a man for that.
- Doc Farrell: Well, under the circumstances, I could try real hard!
- Reb Kittredge: Are you in love with Curly?
- Rita: He wants to marry me.
- Reb Kittredge: That's not what I asked you.
- Rita: I don't know why that would interest you.
- Reb Kittredge: I don't want to stake my claim on range that's already taken up.
- Dan Saxon: I built that ranch with my own two hands. You were born there. Your mother died there. I fought Indians and snowstorms and dry years and floods to make it what it is. And I'm not going to give it up just because some two-bit gunslinger happens to come to town.
- [Curly and Reb have a final confrontation]
- Reb Kittredge: Then get out of camp!
- Curly Mather: I'll leave when I'm ready.
- Reb Kittredge: You'll leave right now!
- Curly Mather: I reckon that's a choice I'll make for myself.
- Reb Kittredge: The only choice you've got is how you'll go -- either riding on a horse or feet first.
- Curly Mather: You've been twirling a pretty big rope ever since you came here. Maybe it's time someone took the slack out of your rope.
- Reb Kittredge: Anytime you're ready.
- Reb Kittredge: Did you ever think of settling down in one place, Johnny?
- Johnny Lake: Yeah, I did settle down once.
- Reb Kittredge: What happened?
- Johnny Lake: They forgot to lock the cell one night.
- Reb Kittredge: How's he paying ya?
- Johnny Lake: A thousand cash... $2500 bonus when the job is done.
- Reb Kittredge: Meaning when you shoot me.
- Johnny Lake: I think your name got mentioned somewhere.
- Reb Kittredge: Well, I've been shot at for less.
- [After Reb's horse is shot, he hitches a ride on a stagecoach with a pretty, but aloof, passenger]
- Reb Kittredge: I ran into a little trouble this morning. I had to leave my horse back up the trail.
- Rita: If I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, I'd say you still had him with you.
- Curly Mather: You're pretty tough with that gun strapped around your waist. I wonder how tough you'd be without it.
- Reb Kittredge: You ain't never going to find out, Curly. I'm never going to take it off.
- Reb Kittredge: [Kittredge is shaving when someone knocks, he draws his gun, Rita enters] Well... you're in the wrong room, aren't you?
- Rita: You can put the gun away, I'm not dangerous.
- Reb Kittredge: [looks Rita up and down] You could be... you got the right equipment for it.
- Dan Saxon: Got a little proposition for ya.
- Reb Kittredge: Your daughter already made me one. Offhand I'd say she's got more to offer than you have.
- Bartender: What'll it be?
- Reb Kittredge: Whiskey.
- Bartender: You want to drink it or throw it at somebody?
- Reb Kittredge: What I really wanted it for was to kindle a fire.
- Bartender: We got that kind, too.
- Rita: How are you getting along with Kittredge?
- Curly Mather: I can take him or leave him alone. If given the chance, I'd leave him alone.
