Featured review
Jean Poiret and Michel Serrault began as a team, stage and screen partners, ,like Martin and Lewis. Then they go their own way ,sometimes featured in Claude Chabrol's films as well as Caroline Cellier whom Poiret was later to marry.
Poiret and Serrault ,along with Cellier, here cast as the former's niece and the latter's daughter.Sadly ,in spite of their talent, apart from one of two good scenes ,the screenplay is poor and ends as a mundane coarse comedy. This subject of the illegal gambling den is funny but not fully exploited .You can single out ,at a pinch ,some good moments:
-Poiret selling his car ,and his brother-in-law helping him while pretending to raise the "bidding"
-The doctor (Jean Richard) sneering at his future son-in-law's father ,a modest milliner ,and mother ,"gone completely off her rocker".
-"Let's say he's committed suicide! "With a Clock? They won't believe you!"
But as a whole,it does not make it.
