In the movie, Olmo is depicted as coming back from World War One, while Alfredo, even though conscripted, manages to stay at home thanks to his father's connections. In reality, people born in 1901 (like Olmo and Alfredo) were never conscripted to fight in the war, as they were only 17 when it ended in November 1918. The last ones to be conscripted in Italy where those born in 1899.
The flashback begins with Rigoletto announcing Giuseppe Verdi's death, and the next scene is the birth of Alfredo and Olmo, which is supposed the next morning. Verdi's death was on January 27 1901, in winter, but when Alfredo and Olmo are born is summer.
At roughly the 4h10m mark, after Alfredo and Ada meet Neve in the tavern, the scene cuts to Oreste drunkenly walking through snow. The snow on the ground, however, is foam, which can be easily seen jiggling around his feet as he walks through it. Alfredo is also seen walking through foam in subsequent scenes.
As Attila Mellanchini is shot by the communist partisans on VE Day, a close-up is shown of a man's hand holding the pistol to Attila's head. The pistol in his hand is a Beretta M951, which only began production circa 1953 - eight years after the war ended.
