What kind of music goes best with comedy? Even if you’ve never seen The Benny Hill Show, you know its silly, sped-up theme song. For years, funny movies would incorporate swinging jazz or playful orchestral tunes. Then, in the late 1970s, John Landis had the idea to tap acclaimed Oscar-winning composer (and friend) Elmer Bernstein to write a no-winking serious score for Landis’ outrageous Animal House. The juxtaposition worked perfectly, the onscreen hijinks accentuated by Bernstein’s soaring strings — almost as if the movie was pretending to be classy while the characters were thumbing their nose at the pomposity. Soon, other movies, like Airplane! (also scored by Bernstein), were doing the same thing, proving that what initially seemed like a bizarre notion for music in a comedy could actually be brilliant.
But times change, and one trend gets replaced by a new one. By the mid-1980s, several hit comedies contained a hit single.

From The Full Monty to In the Bedroom, Michael Clayton to Eternal Sunshine, the actor – who has died aged 75 – was an intelligent and unshowy delight
For British movie audiences of a certain generation, there is one image of Tom Wilkinson that will always sum up his hold on our hearts: a paunchy, respectable bloke in a dole queue, wearing an anorak over his collar and tie, with a bunch of other depressed but much younger and scruffier males, shyly, almost unconsciously, practising some swaying erotic dance moves to the accompaniment of Donna Summer’s Hot Stuff.

Mort Engelberg, who was a producer on films including Smokey and the Bandit and The Big Easy before transitioning into politics as an “advance man” for Bill Clinton and other presidential candidates, died Saturday in Los Angeles of natural causes. He was 86.
“He was a wonderful person, a wonderful husband. He loved the movie business, and he loved his work with President Clinton,” his wife, Helaine Blatt, told The Hollywood Reporter. “He told the best stories of anyone I ever met, the best jokes.”
Born and raised in Memphis, Engelberg graduated from the University of Illinois and then spent a year working on a master’s degree in journalism at the University of Missouri. The 80s was a fun time for moviegoers. For a successful comedy, sometimes all you needed was a group of employees at a specific job, they butt up against whatever authority is in place, and get into hijinks. There is no better example of this than the recruits at the Police Academy. A group of misfits that are thrown together and given guns. The making of the film had its ups and downs but the whole thing ended up with a whole of laughs and creating a franchise that would spawn seven films, a TV series, and a Saturday morning cartoon. Let’s find out exactly what happened to Police Academy here on Wtf Happened To This Movie?

The trailer for Donna Summer: Love to Love You, a new documentary about the late disco legend, focuses on the identity crisis she felt, juggling stardom, motherhood, and just who she wanted to be. “My approach to singing, I approach it as an actress,” she says in an archival interview. “I don’t approach it as a singer. … I’m not trying to be me.” Later in the clip, an interviewee (likely one of Summer’s daughters) says she would learn about Summer’s life through newspaper clippings hidden around the house.

Indian origin British singer-songwriter Rika, who won Best UK Female Act at the Brit Asia Music Awards in 2019, feels that people should not obsess over social media and that fear of missing out should not play on one’s mind while consuming or posting content.
The singer said: “If you are not comfortable being on social media then you should refrain from using the platform because social media with all its pros still has its cons. It’s great to be on social media, to connect with the world at large and to put your voice out there. But again like everything in this world social media too has its downside.”
Rika, who recently became the first artiste to be signed by Warner Music India, further mentioned, “Social media is a part of life, it’s not the focal point. What you post on the Internet gives a peek into your personality.

There’s sad news to report this evening, as it has been announced that Ricou Browning – who was the last surviving actor to have played a classic Universal Monster, since he portrayed the Gill-Man in the underwater scenes in all three entries of the Creature from the Black Lagoon trilogy; Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), Revenge of the Creature (1955), and The Creature Walks Among Us (1956) – has passed away at the age of 93. Melanie C danced to a Spice Girls track on the “Dancing with the Stars” Season 30 premiere and now Jimmie Allen is like, “Hold my beer.” The country star is set to hit the parquet to one of his songs on Week 2.
Allen and Emma Slater will perform the rumba to the former’s “Billboard” Country Airplay topper “Make Me Want To” on Monday. The duo scored a 22 for their first dance, the tango, which was the third lowest score of the night, but the rumba could be a hit or a miss for any couple because of the hip action that may be too early in the game for some to nail. The rumba is one of six dances this week, the others being Viennese waltz, foxtrot, samba, tango and cha-cha. Speaking of hip action, Matt James and Lindsay Arnold are the only ones doing samba.

*Wipes forehead, cranks up AC, checks pulse* Whew, is it hot in here, or is it just Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline? The Outer Banks costars and real-life lovebirds star in Kygo's latest music video, and it's quite the steamy treat for fans of the adorable couple. Stokes and Cline galavant around Wilmington, Nc, and dance to Kygo's upbeat remix of Donna Summer's 1979 hit, "Hot Stuff." Their chemistry is through the roof - nay, the freakin' stratosphere - as they twirl, shimmy, get close for a smooch, and stare longingly into each other's eyes.

It's safe to say that everyone's spirit could use a recharge during these trying times. Enter Ari Lennox, who teamed up with Hamilton's Anthony Ramos to deliver a soulful rendition of Sly & the Family Stone's 1973 hit "If You Want Me to Stay." The cover, which dropped on Sept. 3, features Lennox and Ramos encapsulating the tune's funk-infused flair with their smooth vocals and buoyant chemistry. The collaboration is part of a partnership between The Main Street Alliance and Crown Royal, who launched a national relief campaign to help bars, stages, and clubs at risk of shutting down due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Proceeds raised from every stream of Lennox and Ramos's "If You Want Me to Stay" will be donated to the fund. In an interview with Popsugar, Lennox opened up about taking on the inspiring project, working with Ramos, and staying in tune with her creativity while social distancing.

A new video has surfaced on 20th Century Fox's Twitter feed that seems to revealed the identity of the "The Kid" in the film played by Julian Dennison. It says his name is Russell a.k.a. Hot Stuff.

The name makes sense because the kid obviously has some major mutant powers involving fire. Now, just so you know, there is no "Hot Stuff" character in the X-Men comics, so this may just be a character that was created for this movie. Unless there is going to be a surprise reveal at some point in the movie. There are rumors that character could be connected to Apocalypse somehow.

Ricky Baker is a long way from New Zealand.
Ahead of Deadpool 2, Julian Dennison’s mystery mutant has sparked all sorts of debate online, as curious fans attempt to figure out the identity of his fire-wielding badass. Pyro and Neal Shaara/Thunderbird III were each floated as potential candidates early on, but it seems Dennison is playing someone else entirely – Russell “Rusty” Collins, otherwise known as Hot Stuff, an X-factor trainee with deep ties to both The New Mutants and the X-Force.
Word comes by way of 20th Century Fox’s Asian Twitter feed (h/t Cbm), where a lone Tweet all but confirmed that, yes, Dennison’s mystery mutant and Russell Collins are, in fact, one and the same. So, mystery solved! Mind you, neither the studio nor Ryan Reynolds have verified this at the time of writing, but the latter did sneak into Hugh Jackman’s birthday...

If that’s Donna Summer, then this must be the late 70s and early 80s, the era of disco dancing in the clubs and roller skating at the Roxy. (And let’s not even talk about the fashions.)
But you won’t get much of a sense the times in “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical,” a narrow-minded jukebox musical that views its titular heroine in a vacuum. The great songs are pretty much all here: “Love to Love You Baby,” “White Boys,” “MacArthur Park,” “Heaven Knows,” “Bad Girls,” “She Works Hard for the Money,” “Hot Stuff” and “Last Dance,” to skim a few titles off the top. Lachanze is here, too, and in glorious voice, along with a thin biographical book that hardly does justice to Summer’s life or her music.
There’s no sense of what Summer represented to the boys and girls madly dancing the night away...

Anyone who worked as hard for her money – and for a professional respect that came too late – as Donna Summer did deserves so much more than this. A jukebox musical that could undo all the genre rehab delivered by superior shows built around Carole King and, if you want to stretch the definition a bit to include Lazarus, David Bowie, Broadway’s Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, opening tonight, is as unimaginative as its title.
With the saving graces of really fine vocal performances from Lachanze, Ariana DeBose and young Storm Lever – each plays the disco great at different points in her life – Summer dutifully pastes the life events of Ladonna Adrian Gaines to the hits she’d perform under the name thought up by pioneering producer Giorgio Moroder. “Summer,” the show’s writers have Moroder saying. “You know, like the season. Hot.”

Ok, high marks to the viewers who saw this twist coming.
Mr. Scratch has been a red herring all season. Instead, it was revealed that Cat Adams was behind Reid's troubles on Criminal Minds Season 12 Episode 21.
And finally, finally, finally Reid was freed from prison.
But he's hardly free.
That's because mini-psycho Lindsey Vaughn kidnapped his mother Diana and disappeared.
Poor Reid! Even his own teammates thought he was delusional.
Of course, that's because he has been quite delusional ever since his arrest. What's real? What's caused by the drugs in his system, and what's caused by his jumbled memories? Who can say?
So when Reid asked for Prentiss' help, claiming that some obscure unsub from a decade ago had abducted his mother, of course, she was a little skeptical.
Just like all the viewers who were thinking, "That's the big payoff? I barely remember her."
Now puzzle me this:...

Finally, the spotlight shines on Dr. Tara Lewis, the criminally underused member of the Bau.
Not only do we get to learn more about Lewis on Criminal Minds Season 12 Episode 7, but the season's on-and-off storyline about the escaped serial killers is on again, with Mr. Scratch front and center.
And his whole plan hinges on some long-simmering family drama.
The episode starts innocently enough, with Lewis, who's been missing for a few episodes already this season, asking for the day off.
But then Garcia whips out her inner profiler for Prentiss, explaining that Lewis's deep, dark secret is that she's estranged from her younger, equally brilliant brother Gabriel, who has thrown his life away on get-rich-quick schemes.
And Lewis admits that Gabriel, who seemingly wasted the chance for a full ride to Yale, has disappointed her.
When it comes to my brother, hostility and dismissal are my specialty.

A group of unemployed Sheffield steelworkers turn to stripping to make ends meet in this very British box office smash. By turns raucous and thoughtful, the story sees Robert Carlyle, Tom Wilkinson and the lads learn to put pride aside and make a few bob by getting their kit off. While the finale never fails to get people on their feet, it's the benefit office shuffle to Donna Summer's Hot Stuff that sums up its heart.

Hot stuff! We saw plenty of head-turning looks at tonight's 2013 Billboard Latin Music Awards. And while some sizzled on the red carpet with looks that were muy caliente, others caught our attention for the wrong reasons. Former Miss Puerto Rico Cynthia Olavarria channeled old Hollywood glamour with a fab floor-length gown embellished with glamorous gold embroidery, while Paulina Rubio went for a flirtier feel with a pretty pink Valentino number that popped on the red carpet. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Ortiz also stood out in a lime green gown that was a little too loud for our liking, and Martha Pabón's watercolor dress failed to flatter her shape with its loose...

Huh. Not what we were expecting from Burnell. And this is ... not working for us. It's almost as though Burnell has too much soul for this. Too much soul, not enough rock, you know? Burnell would be stronger on maybe some Lenny Kravitz? That sound would suit his voice much, much better.
Either way, this left us really cold. Yikes. And case in point, Keith Urban's first comment is, "I'm going to assume rock 'n roll's not your thing ... I've never seen you look more uncomfortable." Yeah, that about sums it up. Nicki babbles some stuff about Teddy Ruxpin -- this is not...

No matter how much people complain the zombie craze has reached a saturation point, something comes along and you realize it still has yet to fully hit its zenith. Take for example Afterlife with Archie, an upcoming comic book in which Riverdale gets The Walking Dead treatment.
You just can’t make this stuff up anymore. Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and the rest of the Riverdale kids will be forced to contend with zombies in a new comic book series launching later this year. It sounds like the basis for a Teefury mash-up shirt, doesn’t it? Nope. This is actually happening, and here’s how:
Jughead’s beloved pooch Hotdog is run over by Reggie in his roadster. He convinces Sabrina to hatch a spell to bring back the pooch, but when Hotdog bites Jughead, he soon craves flesh.
Deadline reportsAfterlife with Archie will be scripted by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

Back in the 1960s and 1970s there was this publisher called Harvey Comics. They were in business to sell comic books to children: Casper the Friendly Ghost, Wendy the Good Little Witch, Hot Stuff, Sad Sack, Little Dot, Richie Rich… well, mostly Richie Rich. As in “I counted 47 different Richie Rich titles from Harvey Comics, not including the daily and Sunday newspaper strip.” Most were bi-monthlies and quarterlies, so to be fair I doubt Harvey released more than a four or five Richie Rich titles every week.
The modern-day equivalent to Richie Rich is Wolverine, who appears in dozens of Marvel titles each month. The sundry Avengers titles, the sundry X-Men titles, Wolverine, Savage Wolverine, Wolverine Max, Wolverine’s Bank Vaults, Wolverine Dollars and Cents… When it comes to that mad little bugger, well, no unemployment lines for him.
Batman is almost as heavily exposed: his various titles, his “family” titles including Batgirl,...

Barbra Streisand's new rarities album Release Me (cute title, dear!) features eleven lovely tracks from all your favorite eras of Streisand supremacy. I'm particularly fond of "I Think It's Going to Rain Today," her Randy Newman cover from 1970 that's hypnotically melancholic. There've been tons of versions of that tune, and I think we're finally hearing the definitive take. And speaking of new takes: Let's commemorate Barbra's newest triumph with a short retrospective of great artists who've covered her. Not many are brave enough to try but these eight dames deliver a knockout just like crusty old Ryan O'Neal in The Main Event.

The couples performed their routines for a second time in the dance-off, with Hall and Du Beke doing the quickstep to Simon & Garfunkel's 'Mrs Robinson'. Vaughan and Lowe performed the cha cha cha to Donna Summer's 'Hot Stuff'. Delivering his verdict, judge Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Vaughan, saying: "For me, this couple improved slightly, and were a little bit better, which was encouraging. The couple I would like to save is Michael and Natalie." Darcey Bussell also saved Vaughan, saying: "Both couples have improved so much over the last few weeks. It is so hard to take it (more)...

... and in each other's arms. Bones is back next Monday night and from the looks of the sneak preview clips below, it'll be worth the wait. We're as excited for Booth and Brennan to reunite as they are.
Fox has released five scenes from the Season 8 premiere, which commences with fugitive Brennan and Christine taking a moment to look at family photos before accomplice/grandpa Max keeps them on the move.
Meanwhile, Booth is saddled with desk duty at the FBI, and feeling far from helpful. All the Bones Season 8 spoilers so far have hinted that Pelant plays a major role, and we get a glimpse of him early on.
After Temperance leaves the team an elaborate clue that might break open the investigation, it's time for the unexpected, violent reunion you've all been waiting for on the motel room floor. Hot stuff!
