As fans and even Starz themselves have learned over the years, Curtis ’50 Cent” Jackson is not exactly known for verbally pulling his punches. Now, the Power executive producer and star wants a copyright lawsuit against the ratings shattering drama unplugged.

“Other than the fact that both works involve an African-American protagonist , they bear no similarities beyond the generalized theme of a crime drama and stock creative elements that flow from this most basic of premises,” says a motion (read it here) to dismiss the amended complaint of Larry Johnson and Blake Keller’s initially filed copyright infringement and fraud suit of last October.

The best radio ad of the year is to be decided at the national Siren Awards next month, with agencies such as Bmf, Clemenger Bbdo Melbourne, Ajf Partnership, The Monkeys and Eardrum in contention to win the Gold Siren.

The winners of the top award will be entered into the Cannes Radio Lions, to take place in June. And for the first time, the client will be invited along to Cannes too.

Commercial Radio Australia boss Joan Warner said this recognised “the important role clients play in driving the writing, production and delivery of high quality radio ads.”

Last year’s gold siren was won by Andrew Woodhead and Eamonn Dixon of Leo Burnett Melbourne for “Slow Mornings” for 7-Eleven.

J. Edgar (Warner Bros.) Director Clint Eastwood provides a rock-solid, albeit rather flat portrait of polarizing FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, covering his life from late teens to his death. Leonardo DiCaprio does an impressive turn as Hoover, never crossing the line into caricature, and creating a Hoover that is all too human, making for an all the more unsettling look at absolute power run amuck. Where the film stumbles is the love story at its core: Hoover’s relationship with longtime aide Clyde Tolson (Armie Hammer). In the hands of an openly-gay director like Gus Van Sant, this could have been a heartbreaking, tender story of forbidden (unrequited?) love, but Eastwood seems to tiptoe around their romance, with far too much delicacy and deference. Yesterday, the nominees for the 2010 Leo Awards were announced. The objective of this award is to celebrate all the things that have been done in the film and television industry of the Prairies and the province British Columbia along with people who are based in these regions. Furthermore, foreign TV series and films that are produced in Canada's West are also included in the party. Obviously, this is not the full list of nominees. Larry Gelbart, who created the classic TV adaptation of Robert Altman's "M*A*S*H" and whose talented comedy writing stretched from the days of radio to the big screen and cutting-edge cable shows, died of cancer at his Beverly Hills home on Friday. He was 81.

Gelbart, the principal writer on "M*A*S*H" during the first four years of the hit CBS series, was responsible for 97 episodes of the show, one of TV's most literate comedies. He also directed some early episodes.

Beginning as a gag writer in days of radio and honing his comic craft for such talents as Jack Carson and Bob Hope, Gelbart was a versatile stylist who succeeded in a variety of mediums.

A: Personally, the Flying Monkey is holding out hope that the not-so-distant future will see a return to the simple beauty that is a pair of tighty-whities, but I suppose I should just be thankful that the new Smokin' Hot Kirk wasn't wearing saggy, baggy boxers.
