“The past is not just the past. It comes back again and again, it affects our time. If the present cannot be changed then the future threatens to be the same as the past.”—Jung Yoon-sukIn any other year, South Korean artist and filmmaker Jung Yoon-suk’s films could not have screened at the London Korean Film Festival, noted curator Tony Rayns as he introduced Jung’s films at the festival. Under the previous government, led by the now-imprisoned Park Geun-hye, Jung’s work—licentious and overtly political, even if the director wouldn’t describe it as such—would not have met the standards of that government’s officiators, whose notorious blacklist was alleged to contain nearly 10,000 names of artists whose work was deemed unfit for the state-controlled funding programs. It’s not clear how much influence that same government held over the activities of the UK’s...

If there’s one thing that defines the Star Wars community, it’s passion.
For more than 40 years, film fans have pored over Lucasfilm’s crown jewel and its extended universe – canon or not – to discuss Falcons, firearms and midi-chlorians, so it should come as no surprise that The Last Jedi has sent the Internet into a collective tailspin.
Since its North American debut on Friday, the Rian Johnson sequel has admittedly endured mixed fortunes, as the online backlash from fans has somewhat tainted The Last Jedi and its staggering box office performance. One thing we can tell you with absolute certainty is that Star Wars: The Last Jedi left us mulling over a lot of questions – questions that will likely continue to simmer until the release of Episode IX in 2019.
And after touching on Luke Skywalker’s contentious arc, Johnson spoke to Entertainment Weekly about another fan-favorite. Spoilers to follow!

While the world waits for Avengers: Infinity War to arrive next May, the folks over at Marvel Studios are busy working on its equally highly-anticipated sequel, Avengers 4. Though the cast and crew have been careful to remain tight-lipped about it, the behind the scenes shots some have posted on social media have given us a few hints as to what we can expect.
The latest example is a photo shared by Evangeline Lilly. The actress posted a snap of herself after her working day as Hope Van Dyne Aka Wasp had wrapped. Innocent enough, right? On the surface, sure, but fans quickly noted that Lilly’s bob haircut in the photo was a close match for her look in 2015’s Ant-Man rather than the longer hair she’s been seen to sport in set photos from Ant-Man and the Wasp.

As much as the past fifteen years or so have proven to be an embarrassment of riches for geeks and casual moviegoers the world over, the fact remains that several dream meetings between superheroes have yet to occur on the big screen. And what’s doubly maddening is that many of those on fans’ wishlists involve Marvel characters.
You see, while Disney, Marvel’s parent company, lays claim to the cinematic rights to the wealth of their characters, there are numerous others – chief among them being those who reside under the X-Men and Fantastic Four umbrellas – that call Fox home. But, with Disney possibly purchasing Fox as soon as next week, a multitude of fan favorites could soon be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Naturally, one such icon that would be directly impacted by this move is that of Deadpool. Perhaps bracing for the inevitable, Ryan Reynolds, the Merc with a Mouth himself,...

As it has been well established by this point, this is a show where the improbable has become ordinary, and the sensible rarely exists at all. Like its spiritual precursor Twin Peaks, Riverdale will do whatever the hell it wants, and viewers can either hop aboard like Betty on the back of uneasy rider Jughead's motorcycle or tune out entirely. Obviously, we here at Den of Geek are all in, but that doesn't mean to say that the journey is always going to be a comfortable one. Which brings us to tonight's instalment, perhaps the most uneven episode to date.

Luther fans, rejoice! Idris Elba’s gruff detective will don that signature tweed coat once again for an “utterly heart-stopping and unmissable” four-part season, filming on which will kick off next month.
That’s right, Luther season 5 will head into production in January and it’ll herald John Luther’s first small-screen appearance since December of 2015. Granted, Elba has since reprised as the iconic sleuth, specifically for a Sport Relief sketch, but with the show’s co-creator and writer Neil Cross also on board, fans will no doubt be looking to this all-new fifth installment with bated breath.
“I delivered the final episode of Luther series five about an hour before leaving for the airport [to head to London for the Hard Sun premiere],” said Cross in a recent interview. “We’re in prep right now and we’re doing a bit of casting and we start shooting in January. For some reason, I always seem to shoot in the depths of winter.

We were all expecting lots of action, fun and all-round comic book crossover goodness from this week’s four-part Arrowverse event “Crisis on Earth-x.” What we didn’t expect, though, was to end up an emotional wreck by the end of it. The crossover’s concluding installment, that came during Legends of Tomorrow, saw Dr. Martin Stein die sacrificing himself to save his friends.
In this new featurette that you’ll see up above, courtesy of The CW, Victor Garber reflects on his time as part of the DC universe and reveals his favourite parts of playing the superhero scientist.
“I’ve loved the whole experience of being in this genre, this world,” says Garber in the video, explaining that he wasn’t very familiar with DC before he played Stein. “[It’s] is something that I didn’t really know about, that I didn’t really understand.”

Marvel’s Mightiest Heroes are great and all, but what would an Avengers-style team-up movie be like if it featured a mash-up of Disney’s finest? Well, this new fan-edit of the Avengers: Infinity War trailer (seen below) imagines just that, as the teaser is remade beat for beat using clips from your favourite movies from the House of Mouse.
Apart from the clever swapping out of Infinity War scenes with their closest match in Disney movies, the fun in this trailer is seeing which cartoon characters replace the Avengers line-up. For instance, Tony Stark becomes Aladdin, Doctor Strange morphs into Genie, Scarlet Witch and Vision are now Lady and the Tramp, Thor is Hercules (natch), Peter Parker is Max Goof, Bucky Barnes is Peter Pan, and so on.
Perhaps the best match-ups, though, are the villains. Obviously, The Lion King‘s Scar takes the place of Loki, another trickster...

James Cameron has always been at the forefront of technology when making a movie. From the groundbreaking effects in ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day‘ to the invention of the motion capture technology used in the first ‘Avatar‘, Cameron always seems to be developing some new technology for his current project. Cameron’s output in the last decade of his career has pretty much been contained within the aforementioned ‘Avatar‘, as well as a few documentaries. But that doesn’t mean that James Cameron hasn’t been busy developing new technology in the meantime.
Since the release of ‘Avatar’ in late 2009 (hard to believe that was almost 8 years ago) Cameron has been busy developing the technology (and story) to build out the ‘Avatar‘ universe in interesting and unique ways. It was reported back in 2010 that the sequels would take place largely in an underwater environment, but is seems that, according to James Cameron,...

In a new interview, Daisy Ridley reveals that she doesn't have plans to play Rey beyond the Sequel Trilogy.

It’s the one Star Wars-related rumor that refuses to relent.
Having made her big break in The Force Awakens two years ago, Rey has become the face of Lucasfilm’s current trilogy, and though Daisy Ridley’s Jakku orphan was introduced as a straight-laced heroine – one with a peculiar connection to the Force, mind you – there have been rumblings that The Last Jedi will signal a change of heart in Luke’s newfound apprentice.
Those rumors can be traced back to the sequel’s full-length trailer, which ended with Rey uttering the much-debated line: “I need someone to show me my place in all this.” Talk about fanning the flames of speculation.
And though she refrained from divulging too much, Daisy Ridley recently appeared on Good Morning America (via ComicBook.com) to discuss all things Star Wars, and Rey’s role in the ever-changing universe.

His dual persona – charismatic King from another time and humble every-man – has always been entertaining to watch, partly thanks to Payton’s brilliant performance of the character, and this week’s episode explores the idea of Ezekiel’s identities competing further.
The episode opens with an intimate sequence focused on Ezekiel as a he prepares himself for the mission that unraveled (and is still unravelling) in the previous instalment. There has been a lot of speculation as of late about director Matt Reeves' planned Batman movie, but there's some new information that might give confirmation as to when the movie actually takes place.
The new rumor comes from former Latino Review reporter Mario Francisco-Robles who claims that The Batman will not be a prequel or a reboot, and will be set after the events of Justice League.
There have been a lot of inquiries regarding the details of Reeves' film, especially with rumors of current Batman, Ben Affleck possibly departing the role and Jake Gyllenhaal rumored to be replacing the caped crusader.
Francisco-Robles cites an unnamed source, who recently revealed the new information.
"The Batman will not be a prequel or reboot. It's the [Justice League] Batman… [Jake Gyllenhaal] will be almost 40 when The Batman is out. He still has operated for 20 years, but his age will be less of the focus.

Just a few months ago, it looked like Ezra Miller’s The Flash solo movie was going to languish in development hell, after numerous directors such as Seth Grahame-Smith and Rick Famuyiwa had ditched the project. However, back at this summer’s Sdcc, it was announced that the movie had been revitalized as Flashpoint, something that peaked fans’ attentions.
You see, Flashpoint was a major DC comics event in 2011 which saw Barry Allen rewrite history by saving his mother from her death when he was a child. This caused the timeline to go completely off-the-rails, with the DC universe transformed into a war-torn dystopia. Eventually, Barry got things roughly back on track – but in doing so he rebooted DC continuity, beckoning in the controversial New 52.
As the DC Extended Universe is only a few films old, it wasn’t clear how much of the comic event’s importance would be kept for the movie adaptation.

Spoilers below for Justice League.
Despite, uh, less than superreviews for Justice League, the DC Universe is barreling forward, it seems, if the two -- yes, two -- post-credit scenes are any indication. (Y'know, in addition to all the seeds planted in the actual movie for Queen Atlanna, Darkseid and Green Lantern Corps.)
While the DC brain trust has tended away from adding tags on the movies -- "'I don't know, can I do that?' Because Marvel does that," Zack Snyder once said -- Justice League isn't the first film to come with bonus scenes. But while the stinger attached to Suicide Squad was mostly just puzzling, there's quite a bit to speculate over here.

Mid-Credits Scene: The scene itself doesn't require much explaining: Barry Allen aka The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Superman (Henry Cavill) meet in some remote location to race. "It's not like a competition, you know," Barry...

It seems like ever since Ben Affleck first signed up to play Batman in the DC Extended Universe, people have been discussing when he would leave the part. Due to the backlash against Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, rumours have said that Affleck’s initial enthusiasm for the role waned (or Wayned) and he’s been looking for a way out ever since. Obviously, the star has denied these claims, but his own responses from time to time have suggested he’s already thinking of hanging up his cowl for good.
Now, we have some new comments from Dceu producer Charles Roven which are similarly hazy. While talking with The Washington Times, Roven touched base on the reports that Affleck would not be playing the title role in The Batman, the upcoming solo movie from director Matt Reeves. For better or worse, Justice League‘s prolonged spell in development will be talked about for years to come.
And with November 17th inching closer, The Wall Street Journal (via Collider) has comprised a new report that highlights all of those production woes – the director changeover, the “significant” reshoots – and how they caused the film’s budget to balloon past $300 million.
Initially, Geoff Johns and Jon Berg were brought on board to course-correct the DC Extended Universe, and their first port of call was to work closely with both Zack Snyder and Chris Terrio (Star Wars: Episode IX) to lighten Justice League‘s tone. According to Twsj, the Powers That Be “felt he had made progress with the lighter elements,” but decided that there was still room for improvement. Enter Joss Whedon.

Even though the Supergirl TV series has borrowed heavily from Kara Zor-El’s cousin’s rogues gallery, there’s no denying how much it’s embraced the source material. To date, we’ve seen the likes of Martian Manhunter, Livewire and the Parasite brought to life in ways that not even Smallville was able to accomplish.
So, naturally, one would expect season 3 to further utilize the vastness of the DC Universe, and devoted comic book readers who’ve thus far been paying attention have expected the Legion of Super-Heroes to show up before long. Not only has their signature ring been teased on this show in the past, but many of us suspected that the 31st century is where Mon-El’s ship ended up, something that actor Chris Wood has mildly hinted at.

Not only has their signature ring been teased on this show in the past, but many of us suspected that the 31st century is where Mon-El’s ship ended up, something that actor Chris Wood has mildly hinted at.

Bringing an end to what has been a shocking and deeply troubling week, we’re learning tonight that Netflix has fired Kevin Spacey from House of Cards. Not only that, but they’ve also axed plans to release Gore, a film they were working on with the actor that was in post-production. In short, they’re severing all ties with him, which, given what’s going on, is perfectly understandable.
In a statement released earlier tonight, the company said the following:
“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey. We will continue to work with Mrc during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show.
We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey.”

Syfy’s upcoming prequel series Krypton is set to explore the political and social troubles of Superman’s home planet two generations before it was destroyed, with the show following Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El, Kal-El’s grandfather. It’s going to make the most out of having the cosmic side of the DC universe at its disposal, too, as it’s bringing in a few familiar faces. Previously, Shaun Sipos was cast as space-based hero Adam Strange, while another interesting character we were told to expect was Brainiac, a major foe of the Man of Steel’s in the comics.
Now, Deadline is reporting that Krypton has found someone to play the villain: Blake Ritson, most known for his role on Starz’s Da Vinci’s Demons. The site describes Krypton‘s version of Brainiac as “a parasitic, hyper-advanced alien android of immense intelligence.” This should definitely please comic book fans,...

As evidenced by the steady stream of set photos, Atlanta is still playing host to Avengers 4, Marvel’s unnamed sequel currently on course for a release in 2019.
Nipping at the heels of Infinity War, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have now switched gears to orchestrate the second, conclusive chapter in their two-part epic, which presumably pits Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against Thanos for the final time in May of 2019. So far, most of the titular heroes have been confirmed to be appearing in the superhero extravaganza, but today, we’re hearing that someone rather unexpected may be involved, too: Crossbones.
Having been originally introduced simply as Brock Rumlow, a sleeper agent of Hydra, in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, he ironically saw his screentime reduced when he finally emerged as a full-blown Crossbones two years later in Civil War. And, of course, he met his demise in the opening salvo.

Kevin Spacey’s sexuality has long been “an open secret” in Hollywood — a phrase that took on elevated meaning in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. Now, the reverberations of that news story have led to another one with Spacey at its center. With the allegations that Spacey sexually assaulted “Star Trek” actor Anthony Rapp in the ’80s while he was underage, Spacey made the jarring decision to simultaneously apologize for his actions and come out. Needless to say, that decision came as quite a shock to many in the Lgbtq community, paired with a feeling of betrayal by a man who wasn’t doing much good for them in the first place.
While everyone has a right to come out in their own time, Spacey somehow found the worst possible time to do it, besmirching an entire community and threatening to drag the progress for Lgbtq identity in...

Time will tell if The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special will join the ranks of other hallowed Halloween specials like It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, but you can get an idea of what to expect in the first clip from the NBC special, in which two kids unsuspectingly summon David S. Pumpkins (voiced by Tom Hanks) with a magic pumpkin (that is reminiscent of Charlie Brown's Christmas tree).
The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special airs on Saturday, October 28th at 11:30pm Et (the SNL time slot) on NBC. Hanks will be joined in the voice cast by Peter Dinklage, Streeter Seidell, Mikey Day, and Bobby Moynihan (the lattermost two played Pumpkins' dancing skeleton sidekicks in the "Haunted Elevator" sketch).

It’s official: Star Trek: Discovery will live long and prosper all the way into season 2.
Deadline has the scoop, revealing that Starfleet’s galactic mission is now expected to span into 2019 after Discovery set a “new record for subscriber sign-ups in a single day, week and month” on CBS All Access. No further details were disclosed, such as season 2’s total episode count, though it’s safe to assume that Star Trek: Discovery will stay put on the digital service, as opposed to beaming over to network TV.
It’s also unclear if Discovery‘s second season will be split into two halves to coincide with the first, which is about to reach its midseason break on November 5th. The final seven episodes will then premiere in January, as Michael Burnham’s journey begins to near its conclusion – for now, of course.

So far, AMC has detailed only three episodes of The Walking Dead season 8: “Mercy,” “The Damned” and “Monsters.”
The first is arguably the most buzzworthy of the lot, given it’s set to jump-start the show’s breathless eighth season this coming weekend. Not only that, but “Mercy” is also on the verge of becoming The Walking Dead‘s 100th episode, and AMC is pulling out all the stops to ensure Sunday’s premiere is one to remember.
It’ll seemingly set the pace for the entirety of The Walking Dead season 8, and though AMC is still playing its cards close to the vest, SpoilerTV has now uncovered the official titles and synopses for episodes four and five: “Some Guy” and “The Big Scary U.” Set to arrive on November 12th and November 19th, respectively, each instalment looks set to place a particular emphasis on the Saviors, with “The...

Gimple is coming on board as an executive producer. In a recent letter to the fans, Gimple teased what we can expect to see in the upcoming fourth season of the companion series.

Are you ready for Jigsaw?
It is, in essence, the eighth entry into Lionsgate’s time-honored Saw franchise, one that’s coming by way of directing duo Michael and Peter Spierig. Best known for their work on Daybreakers, the Spierig siblings are still relatively new when it comes to Hollywood’s horror scene, but when asked to describe how they approached the cult series, Michael Spierig hinted that Jigsaw is “Saw for 2017.” That means it’s safe to expect more nightmare fuel and wildly inventive demented traps than you can shake a pig’s mask at, and though Lionsgate’s franchise has fallen by the wayside in recent years, in 2017, Halloween belongs to Jigsaw. And long may he reign.

Fast forward to Captain America: Civil War and he was now operating as costumed supervillain Crossbones, intent on revenge. However, he swiftly met his end at the hands of his own bomb when fighting the Avengers.
Or did he? While chatting with Syfy Wire at New York Comic-Con, Frank Grillo made it clear that he would love to return to the McU to play Crossbones again at some point. As for how Rumlow could survive a bomb blast, Grillo reminded us that anything can happen in a comic book movie universe:

When he’s not being badgered about the embryonic Star Trek 4 – for the record, Paramount is still playing things close to the vest – you’ll likely find Karl Urban fielding questions about Judge Dredd and, specifically, the spinoff TV series coming by way of Im Global and Rebellion.

And now that the fall season is in full swing, we continue looking ahead, this time at episodes of Supergirl and Arrow set to air during Halloween week.
First, on Monday, October 30, Supergirl begins charting what’ll be surely be a strange journey for Odette Annable’s character of Samantha. Casually introduced to us in the season 3 premiere, we know that the seemingly average woman will go on to become Reign, this year’s big bad. Truth be told, the unassuming villain is something we’ve yet to see from this series, so we could have some great television ahead of us.
Continuing on that note, we also can’t help but draw parallels to Smallville‘s Davis Bloome, who was played by Sam Witwer.

Cast your mind back to December of 2014, when Disney and Lucasfilm were beginning to awaken a long-dormant, cinematic Force, and you’ll no doubt recall the sheer amount of curiosity and excitement swirling around Kylo Ren’s crossguard lightsaber.
Built to resemble a medieval sword from a bygone era, the weapon’s design was a fairly major departure from the lightsabers of old, as it offered its owner – the disillusioned Ben Solo, in this instance – protection in close-quarters combat. No longer could an opponent’s lightsaber slide down to the hilt and slice off a hand.
That’s not to say that Kylo Ren escaped The Force Awakens without so much as a scratch; following his duel with Rey on Starkiller Base, we know Adam Driver’s mercurial baddie will be sporting a gnarly facial scar come December, when all eyes in the galaxy will be trained on Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

It was sort of like the Famous Five, but in the Marvel Universe. Being someone who’s been looking forward to seeing a Justice League movie for years, I had a shortlist of villains that I expected to serve as the primary antagonist whenever my favorite superheroes eventually teamed up on the big screen for the first time. Obviously, the usual suspects consisted of heavy hitters like Darkseid, Brainiac and the Crime Syndicate. So, you could imagine my shock upon hearing that Zack Snyder settled on Steppenwolf.
My reason for saying that is because, while Steppenwolf is most certainly a formidable villain and was quite the nuisance in the recent Earth 2 comics, he’s essentially Darkseid’s subordinate. Thus, I found it odd that someone such as him would be chosen as the big bad.
On top of that, this past summer saw reliable sources report that Darkseid’s cameo at the end of the flick had been removed altogether, not only...

The humans of the new Pacific Rim movie are good and all but let's talk these mechs that they are piloting because let's face it, I like the Jaegers better than humans.
Everyone is building up excitement for the upcoming sequel to the Pacific Rim Pacific Rim Uprising. Which the official trailer was shown at Nycc 2017 and you can watch that here. We’re starting to get more detail about the characters Mako, Jake, and Lambert. Jake Pentacost apparently was a Jaeger pilot who left the program abandoning his copilot Major Nate Lambert who has some animosity against Jake for that. Jake has apparently in his time away been a bit of a criminal selling weapons on the black market. He never felt he was living up to his father Stacker Pentacost’s expectations and had jealousy towards his adopted sister Mako who has now become a trainer for the modern day Jaeger pilots.

Much digital ink has been spilled over Luke Skywalker’s self-imposed exile, with the overriding consensus being that Mark Hamill’s Jedi fled to Ahch-To soon after the destruction of his budding Jedi Academy at the hands of Kylo Ren. But what about how Mark Hamill’s Jedi affected the young Ben Solo?
The latest rumor concerning Star Wars: The Last Jedi, one pieced together by Star Wars sleuth Mike Zeroh, claims that Luke Skywalker is actually the one to blame for Kylo Ren turning to the dark side. Previous reports have pointed to Supreme Leader Snoke as the main culprit behind Ben Solo’s evil turn, but according to Zeroh, that change of heart can be traced all the way back to a family feud.
Per YouTube:
I do believe it all has to do with his uncle, Luke Skywalker. [According to Jj Abrams], neglect was a little reason as to why Kylo...

What better way to celebrate 40 years of Star Wars than an anthology designed to recount all of the many untold stories scattered across Lucasfilm’s galaxy far, far away?
Well, that’s exactly what Renée Ahdieh set out to do with Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View, a recently-released novel packed to the rafters with unsung heroes and tales of valor, villainy, and far-flung quests to save the galaxy. Available from October 2nd, Star Wars fans have discovered a treasure trove of content pertaining to Lucasfilm’s crown jewel, though Screen Rant has gone one step further to suggest that From a Certain Point of View contains some story clues that relate to the long-rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff.
As we learned back in August, the Powers That Be have finally issued the go-ahead for a Star Wars anthology pic centering on the beloved Jedi Master, with Stephen Daldry in contention to direct.

Whether or not season three of Rick and Morty is considered the best one so far or not, it’s difficult to argue it has been the most varied.
From the incredible opening episode that resulted in the destruction of the intergalactic governments, Council of Ricks and Beth and Jerry’s manage, the majority of the episodes have felt different enough that we’ve not quite been sure what’s around the corner.
We’ve had Rick as a pickle, a series of intertwining stories involving the Rick’s and Morty’s on the new Citadel to a clip-show sequel episode in Morty’s Mind Blowers there have been different formats as well as outlandish ideas, with those three in particular highlights of the last nine episodes.
Another theme has been mixing the characters for each adventure. Rather than just our eponymous duo teaming up, we’ve seen Rick spend...

DC fans had their minds blown when it was announced a month ago that an origins movie for the Joker was in the works. Sitting outside the DC Extended Universe, the film is set to feature a new actor as the Clown Prince of Crime in place of Jared Leto. Furthermore, The Hangover’s Todd Phillips is directing with legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese on hand to produce.
By leveraging Scorsese’s involvement in the spinoff project, Warner has reportedly set sights on Leonardo DiCaprio for the title role, which would mark the actor’s first major foray into Hollywood’s bustling superhero genre. It would undoubtedly be a historic coup for the studio, but at least at the time of writing, there’s been no mention of Warner Bros. tabling an official deal between both parties. As the rumors continue to swirl though, we now have some more fan art emerging,...
