If you’re a child of the nineties, chances are you grew up loving Sinbad. Also known as David Atkins, Sinbad began his comedy career as a contestant on Star Search before nabbing his breakout role on the Cosby Show spin-off, A Different World, where he played Coach Walter Oakes; he served as a mentor to the main cast, who all played students at the fictional Hillman College. His distinctive look made him instantly identifiable, and it wasn’t long before he started showing up in movies, with roles in Necessary Roughness and Coneheads.
His career was unusual because most people went to TV after their movie careers cooled down. For Sinbad, it was the opposite. His solo TV show, The Sinbad Show, was a flop, but shortly afterwards, his movie career went into high gear, with him appearing in a string of hit movies. His biggest hit was Houseguest opposite the late Phil Hartman,...

On Monday, Fox unveiled the network's primetime slate for the 2018-2019 television season during its annual Programming Presentation at the Beacon Theatre.
"This year, we launched four of the Top 10 new shows on broadcast, which led to a very strong roster of young series returning for their sophomore seasons. That gives us tremendous momentum heading into the fall," said Newman and Walden. "With our increased investment in football, we're going to use the powerful platform of the NFL to launch our new comedies. We'll then take some big swings with dramas at midseason, which is a proven strategy for Fox."
The new comedies joining the lineup this fall are Rel and The Cool Kids. Inspired by the life of Lil Rel Howery, Rel is a multi-camera comedy starring Howery as a loving husband and father living in Chicago, who finds out his wife is having an affair, and must rebuild...

When one door closes, another one opens. That's in the case in life and in TV. When one show gets cancelled a new show gets greenlit. Here are the shows Fox hopes you get excited for.
First show up is a comedy called Rel. Inspired by the life of Lil Rel Howery, Rel is a multi-camera comedy starring Howery as a loving husband and father living in Chicago, who finds out his wife is having an affair, and must rebuild his life as a single father, following his divorce. The comedy also stars Sinbad, Jess “Hilarious” Moore (“Wild ’N Out”) and Jordan L. Jones.
Next up another comedy, The Cool Kids, is a multi-camera comedy about a rag-tag group of friends living in a retirement community who are willing to break every rule in order to have fun – because, at their age, what do they really have to lose? The...

Comedian David Adkins, better known by his stage name Sinbad, has starred in many films in the 90s, including “Necessary Roughness,” “Houseguest” and even the Kenan & Kel vehicle “Good Burger.” But one movie he didn’t star in is “Shazaam,” about an incompetent genie who grants wishes to two children. However, that hasn’t stopped hundreds of people online from claiming that the film is real, believing that they saw it sometime in the 90s.

It’s an understood rule of comedic actors that they can all do drama, as well. Comedy is harder, of course. But then not every comedic actor is truly an actor. Not every comedic performance is about more than good line readings and having the necessary timing to tell a joke. Stand-up comedians often get starring gigs on sitcoms, but that doesn’t mean they’ll wind up with an Oscar nomination someday. (Sorry, Sinbad.) Those who do end up with Academy recognition are those who were always set to shine on the big screen and wound up on TV as a short little detour along the way. Jennifer Lawrence, for example. And Tom Hanks. And Leonardo DiCaprio. But there are also former TV comedy stars who do great work in dramatic movies and never garner Oscar attention, and then they have to go back and do a Dumb and Dumber sequel. There...

The magnificent Trevor Donovan has been cast for a guest role on Drop Dead Diva, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Apparently his role involves dropping his pants in the courtroom, which is always a good idea for Donovan’s characters.
Fox president Kevin Reilly said that he sees Glee ending at the end of its sixth season saying, “there’s two very clear arcs to get to that end and conclude.” However, he added he could see the show lasting beyond that if a new breakout star is found.
Whew. Syfy has picked up the third season of Continuum. I don’t have to figure out how to follow it without a U.S. broadcaster.
Brace yourselves, Fox is planning on adapting Broadchurch. From what I’ve heard about the original, that could be a challenge. Besides, I’m having a hard time imagining Fox coming up with casting as exciting as David Tennant,...

Encino - One of the joys of life is not in the getting, but the ability to give. For the longest time I thought that sentiment was bullshit. It sounded more like the excuse of plague carrier. Talk about resurrecting the dead…
Sinbad will be starring in his very own reality-tv series titled Sinbad’s Family Affair. And from that title, I’m sure you can guess what it’ll be about. We tv has greenlit 6 episodes of the show, which chronicles the life of the comedian and his family.
The backstory on the show: After The Sinbad Show and his movie roles dried up, Sinbad re-married his college sweetheart, kicked his 30-person entourage off the payroll, and got back into his original passion of performing stand-up comedy. Now living back in his original home where his career started, he’s working to rebuild his stand-up comedy career while his grown-up kids, Paige and Royce, are working on their own careers.

Comedian Sinbad is in a serious financial mess. The "Houseguest" star owes over .15 million in delinquent taxes, according to court records.
According to the federal court records obtained by Detroit News, the U.S. Attorney General's office has asked that the 53-year-old Benton Harbor local's house be sold to help satisfy the debt.
Earlier this month, a federal judge was also asked to foreclose on several tax liens and determine whether or not Sinbad - real name David Adkins - was the owner of a .5 million home in Hidden Hills, California.
Sinbad filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy the next day.
