A new game’s afoot and fans are foaming at the mouth for more information. Not because they’ve been poisoned, but because Rian Johnson’s latest installment in the “Knives Out” mystery series is starting to peek out through the fog. Day-by-day, new information has been revealed, from the title announcement to a plethora of casting details, and based on what we already know, the third mystery in the chronicles of Southern sleuth Benoit Blanc is shaping up to be another star-filled whodunnit and one of next year’s most anticipated sequels.
Earning almost 8x its budget and rave reviews across the board, “Knives Out” (2019) was a runaway hit and remains one of the greatest mystery films of all time. The fact that it came as a wholly original concept from Johnson makes it all the more unique. Perhaps not since “The Matrix” has a non-ip project made this...

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is fast approaching and we now have a new look at Keanu Reeves' Shadow the Hedgehog (via GameFragger.com). There's a huge amount of excitement to see that character in live-action, with The Matrix and John Wick star's casting only serving to increase that.
During a recent Q&a, franchise director Jeff Fowler heaped praise on Reeves' approach to playing Shadow.
"It's so awesome that we got Keanu Reeves to voice the character and he was so fantastic to work with," the filmmaker enthused. "He thinks the character is awesome and he definitely understood what we were going for and he was very excited to do his version of it. Like all the cast, [he] really wants to get it right and really cares."
"He would give us so many different versions of line readings and just want to keep going. It was not sort of showing...

With elements from virtual landscapes and artificial intelligence making their way into our day-to-day lives, differentiating between reality and fiction has become increasingly tougher. Adam Stern’s sci-fi action flick, Levels, uses this liminal space between both worlds as its playground by presenting an intriguing narrative that pays homage to sci-fi classics like The Matrix series and The Thirteenth Floor. While the story retreads familiar grounds while handling themes of ethical, moral, and philosophical implications regarding artificial consciousness, having a strong emotional core allows the movie to carve out a distinctive character. While the inspired action sequences look really cool, accompanied by polished VFX, viewers will definitely crave more given how the makers have limited the number of action scenes. The makers didn’t intend to make the narrative a head-scratcher, which is why the ending of Levels neatly wraps up the threads of the events showcased throughout.

Once upon a time, in the spring of 1999, stuff changed. The Matrix happened. Back then, Star Wars and Star Trek. had long governed the sci-fi genre. Be it the redefined cinematic experience or the rich mythos, the Wachowski siblings had our attention to a T.
But The Matrix was different. Set in a dystopian future dominated by an all-powerful artificial intelligence, it took us to a reality where humanity was unknowingly trapped. Most folks, though, were unaware, stuck in a simulated existence, while Morpheus and Trinity led a ragtag group of rebels to awaken the masses.
Then there was Neo, thrust into a prophecy predicting he was “The One.” While Keanu Reeves wasn’t the first choice for the role, his performance became the film’s beating heart.

Hollywood stars channeled iconic looks for this year’s Halloween.
Whether recreating their own notable roles like Jennifer Garner dressing as her 13 Going on 30 character, paying homage to other stars like Halle Bailey as Halle Berry and Paris Hilton as Uma Thurman, or even poking fun at pop culture phenomena like the Ozempic trend, stars this year offered a variety of creative and fun looks.
Halloween fanatic Janelle Monáe, who plans out costumes at least two years in advance, unveiled another jaw-dropping transformation as E.T. from Steven Spielberg’s 1982 film.
In her Hollywood Reporter cover story, the Halloween obsessed star said of dressing up, “What I want people to see and to remember about me is that I wasn’t afraid to look silly. I wasn’t afraid to investigate my fears and turn it into a costume. I’m not afraid to transform.”

Leonardo DiCaprio Could Have Been a Superhero—Here’s Why He Turned Down Batman and Spider-Man (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Hollywood’s A-list actor Leonardo DiCaprio has played diversified roles in films ranging from intense dramas like The Revenant and Shutter Islands to his iconic works like Titanic and Inception. Despite his renowned reputation as one of the industry’s most talented actors, DiCaprio never appeared in any DC or Marvel universes, frequently featuring iconic stars like Gal Gadot, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Christian Bale. While he may have rejected several roles in his pursuit of delivering exceptional work, he also has turned down some iconic roles, including a superhero role.
At 19, DiCaprio earned his nomination for an Oscar for his performance in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. After this, he was offered several roles, including Richard Grayson/Robin in 1995 DC and Batman Forever. Unfortunately, the Titanic actor turned down the role.

The Scary Movie franchise has officially been resurrected... for better or worse!
Following April's CinemaCon announcement that a reboot of the horror parody series was in development, Deadline is reporting that a sixth movie is moving forward with the original creative team of Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans back on board.
Keenen Ivory wrote and directed the first two films, while Marlon and Shawn contributed to the scripts and also starred. It's unknown if the brothers will assume the same roles this time.
Fans are hopeful that Anna Faris and Regina Hall will return to lead this new movie, but there's no word on casting just yet.
Rick Alvarez has also been enlisted as a writer and producer along with Fast & Furious and Sonic the Hedgehog's Neal H. Moritz.

The year is almost over, but 2024 has plenty of sci-fi and fantasy goodness to serve us before we ring in a new one. Below, check out some of the biggest movies and TV shows worth checking out in November, with an emphasis on the strange, the wondrous and the fantastical:
Arcane season 2: November 9 (Netflix)
The second and final season of Netflix's Emmy-winning animated series Arcane drops this November, and it promises to have even more magic, bloodshed, and brutal twists and turns than the first. This show may be based off the League of Legends video game, but don't let that fool you; Arcane has a story that's on par with anything the genre has to offer. It primarily follows two sisters, the bruiser Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and chaotic criminal Jinx (Ella Purnell), as they are torn from their humble roots and pitted against each other in a devastating class war.

Monty Python have obviously inspired a number of comedians, writers, filmmakers and aggrieved garbage dump custodians, but it turns out that they also had a big impact on the actor best known for gunning down countless Russian mobsters and downloading kung-fu directly into his cerebral cortex: Keanu Reeves.
Reeves recently attended the Southbank Literature Festival to promote his new novel The Book of Elsewhere, along with his co-author China Miéville. When the moderator asked Reeves about which work of art from his youth “has been the biggest inspiration” in his work, the actor, at first, couldn’t come up with an answer. But then he admitted that it was actually Monty Python.
“It was such a wonderful influence and model of storytelling,” Reeves said of the iconic comedy troupe, noting that their humor “was so physical but also so intellectual and social.”

Exclusive: “Neo, sooner or later you’re going to realize just as I did that there’s a difference between knowing the path and walking the path,” states Laurence Fishburne’s Morpheus to Keanu Reeve’s character in the Lilly Wachowski’s co-penned and co-helmed The Matrix.
Almost 30 years after the genre and culturally defining Matrix first came out, those words and that worldview are something the filmmaker takes very seriously as a series of grants from Wachowski’s Anarchist United Foundation makes very clear. It's Halloween season, and everyone is prepping their costumes. That includes ordinary people like you and I as well as celebrities with 14 million followers.
I may have someone in particular in mind: Sophie Turner, best known for playing the role of Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones, just posted her outfit for Halloween 2024, and it harkens back to a style popular across the malls of America in the early 2000s, when Hot Topics were cultural hubs and cell phones actually had little buttons you had to compress like some kind of idiot. Turner's look this year is inspired by The Matrix:

Remedy Entertainment’s highly successful 2001 video game, Max Payne, was one of the first to feature the bullet-time effect popularized by The Matrix. This completely changed the combat mechanics as players had the option to slow down the time to have better accuracy. Many modern video games have this feature but Max Payne did it more than two decades ago, and it’s all because of the legendary director John Woo.

In a past interview, Petri Järvilehto, the director of Max Payne, explained that he was inspired by John Woo’s original Hong Kong action films and was determined to do something related to slow-motion in the game. Initially, the slow-motion effect was a scripted element. However, they later decided to change it, giving players the option to slow down time manually.

Sure, there are plenty of new and classic horror movies on streaming this year. But there’s nothing that beats the sensation of sliding a disc into a Blu-ray player. It harkens back to the thrill of going to your local video store, picking out a scary movie and taking it home.

Keanu Reeves’ John Wick series has been a staple of the action genre for quite some time, so it might seem a little odd to imagine a work where the film was almost buried. The film, which was Reeves’ most brilliant outing after his work in The Matrix, was almost never made due to monetary issues. However, there was an actress who would not see the franchise go into the night, and that was Eva Longoria.

Eva Longoria revealed in a recent interview that her investment in the film is what got it off the ground, which ended up being a crucial amount of money for the project. Without the money that Longoria put in, there was a potent possibility that the film would never make it off the ground.

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of John Wick hitting the big screen, I got to chat with director Chad Stahelski about the impact the Keanu Reeves-led film has had on action cinema. The veteran stunt performer and filmmaker has had a storied career working on franchises and films ranging from The Matrix to The Crow and 300. Stahelski and his longtime collaborator David Leitch have transformed action movies with their stunt-heavy films, which have become a staple in Hollywood and have major influences on other filmmakers.
During our conversation, Chad offered some updates and insight into the world of John Wick, as well as the past and future. There have long been rumblings about expanding the franchise beyond the main film series, with Peacock airing The Continental series earlier this year, the Ana De Armas-led spin-off Ballerina coming soon, and a cameo from Keanu Reeves himself. Stahelski told me...

Where to Watch Gladiator: Your Guide to Streaming the Original Film Before Gladiator 2 Hits Theaters! (Photo Credit – Twitter)
Before Ridley Scott’s highly-anticipated Gladiator 2 finally hits the big screen, it’s the perfect time to reminisce about the 2000 Gladiator and take a trip down memory lane to revisit the first movie’s events. Although there’s still a month before Gladiator 2 arrives in theaters on November 22, the overwhelmingly positive first reactions make the wait all the more worthwhile.
Gladiator followed Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius, who Commodus, the power-hungry son of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, betrayed. When Marcus calls Maximus his successor, Commodus kills his father and orders Maximus’ execution. Although Maximus escapes his death, he returns to his home only to find his family brutally killed by Commodus’ men. He is then captured and enslaved, becoming a gladiator as he rises to fame in the arena.

Is The Crown Season 5 Hinting at Future Royal Scandals? Let’s Break It Down!(Photo Credit – YouTube)
Buckle up, folks! The drama train’s already chugging full steam ahead for Season 5 of The Crown, dropping on November 9. The chatter’s hotter than a cup of English tea, with columnists firing off their spicy hot takes, politicians making headlines, and even award-winning actors throwing shade. The real kicker? Everyone’s asking if The Crown has taken its royal dramatization a tad too far!
Since its royal debut in November 2016, The Crown has spun a fictional web around Queen Elizabeth II’s reign—officially wrapped up on September 8, 2022. It’s not the first pop-culture offering to dip its toes in royal waters. Remember A Royal Night Out, where Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret had a cheeky incognito adventure on V-e Day? Or The Queen, which tackled the whirlwind aftermath of Princess Diana’s tragic passing?...

Johnny Depp was once one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, known for his iconic role in films like Pirates of the Caribbean, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Edward Scissorhands. While his unique acting style and humor made him a household name, it was not until the highly publicized defamation trial against his ex-wife, Amber Heard. The prosecution not only brought a sharp downturn to his critically acclaimed career, but the fallout in his personal life also led to significant professional downfalls, losing his roles at the Disney and WB franchises.
Looking back at the actor’s career, he has contributed significantly to the industry.

Set in Northern Australia’s pastoral landscape, Netflix’s recently released neo-western drama, Territory, deals with a number of topics ranging from land ownership issues, dysfunctional family relationships, the marginalization of indigenous people, and the harrowing effects of commercialization of land at the hands of seedy corporations. John Wick. It’s a name that strikes fear into the hearts of fictional assassins and joy into the hearts of action cinema fans. He’s known as the mythic boogeyman Baba Yaga by those on his hit list, while those lucky enough to be in his good books simply call him Mr. Wick. Over the past decade, he’s gained a reputation as a dog avenger, a High Table-toppler, and an urban legend who once killed three guys in a bar using only a pencil (“a fucking pencil!”).
Offscreen, Wick’s legend is just as lofty. Directed by Chad Stahelski, 2014’s “John Wick” has spawned three direct sequels, each more critically praised than the last. While last year’s “John Wick: Chapter 4” seemingly hit pause on star Keanu Reeves’ time as this slick-suited antihero, the franchise refuses to die. Vendetta Forever is one of those few inspired VR titles that truly feels like passion and patience were more important than the pecuniary end goal. It’s not a flashy remake or a cookie-cutter shooter, it’s a title that will challenge you, surprise you, and if you’re playing it right, probably make you sweat.
What makes this fast-paced adventure even more impressive is the fact that it was developed by MeatSpace Interactive, a one-man video game studio founded and run by Zander Dejah, through the publishing aid of nDreams. It is clear in each of the 60+ levels of Vendetta Forever that Dejah has a love for all things action, which shows through the scenes he has created and the variety of weapons you can use to cut down your enemies.
Whenever I threw on the Quest to play this game, I felt transported to some of my favorite scenes in cinema history.

Ten years ago, John Wick co-director Chad Stahelski helped give birth to one of cinema’s most prolific assassins and, in turn, one of the industry’s most unlikely franchises.
As Keanu Reeves’ stunt double on The Matrix and the martial arts stunt coordinator for its sequels, Stahelski can attest to the star’s unique relationship with his stunt teams. His gift-giving and overall generosity have been well documented, and when future John Wick co-director David Leitch joined the second and third Matrix chapters as a stuntman, the three of them bonded to the point where Reeves began to track Stahelski and Leitch’s ambitions as business partners and aspiring filmmakers. Years earlier, in 1997, Stahelski and Leitch founded their company, 87Eleven, to be a one-stop shop for action design and stunt training, all while climbing the ranks as stunt performers, fight choreographers, stunt coordinators and second-unit directors. (In 2019, Leitch branched off with 87North.

Carrie-Anne Moss, best known for her iconic role in The Matrix, recently addressed the unexpected cancellation of The Acolyte, her latest project on Disney+. Despite the show being cut short after just one season, Moss seemed unfazed by the decision. In an exclusive interview with SFFGazette, she reflected on the inherent unpredictability of television.
The Acolyte received mixed reviews from both fans and critics, though critics’ reactions leaned positive. Disney+’s choice to cancel the series surprised many, as the platform rarely pulls the plug on shows so abruptly.
The cancellation left several storylines unresolved, fueling discussion among the show’s followers.

“John Wick” directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch marked the 10th anniversary of their action movie by speaking to Business Insider about the various battles they had to overcome in order to launch the Keanu Reeves-led franchise. One of the most surprising arguments centered on the actor’s beard, as the financiers of “John Wick” preferred the star to be clean shaven like his famous turns in “Point Break,” “Speed” and “The Matrix.”
“Absolutely. We were trying to do a modern-day Greek mythology fantasy movie. That’s not mainstream. So we wanted to do something cool with Keanu,” Stahelski said about the beard. “But the money people, they wanted to see Keanu fucking Reeves. ‘Point Break’ Keanu, ‘Speed’ Keanu. And I don’t know if this exists anymore, but at the time we were told by the powers that be you don’t cover up your leading man’s face with a beard.

Keanu Reeves has been an absolute favorite of many film critics and audiences. His career has been very interesting since this actor has been open to starring in almost any genre. However, he has been mostly known for his action-driven films. For example, a lot of action movie lovers recognize him for the Matrix films and John Wick series. What they don’t know is how he has struggled in his personal life as well as experimented with other genres.
Reeves was born on September 2nd, 1964, in Beirut, Lebanon. He was raised in Toronto, Canada. He is of Chinese-Hawaiian descent from his father’s side. His father was a geologist. Reeves had a mother that worked in the industry as a performer and later designed costumes. His parents divorced nonetheless. He ended up residing with his mother and sister. As he got older, he developed a keen interest in acting.

There is a moment in "Deadpool & Wolverine" where Wesley Snipes, making his first appearance as Blade in 20 years on the big screen, says "There's only been one Blade. There's only ever gonna be one Blade." While Marvel Studios is currently working on a reboot of the franchise, the project has faced more than a few setbacks. So, for now, there is precisely one actor to play the Daywalker on the silver screen, and that is Snipes. Had things gone another way though, it might have been a different actor we'd now associate with the Marvel Comics antihero. That actor? Denzel Washington.
In a 2018 oral history published by Entertainment Weekly to commemorate the 20th anniversary of "Blade," screenwriter David S. Goyer explained that the studio, in this case New Line Cinema, was having trouble wrapping its head around the concept as it existed.

No one has ever accused Sir Ridley Scott of being shy with his feelings, but when Letterboxd asked the director for his four favorite films at the premiere of "Alien: Romulus," he still managed to be a bit surprising by naming one of his own. To be fair, he also named Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey," George Lucas' "Star Wars: A New Hope," and Jean-Jacques Annaud's "Quest for Fire" alongside his own "Blade Runner," so he had some pretty fantastic picks to offer in addition to showing his 1982 cyberpunk opus a little love. There's definitely a bit of a science fiction thread through his four favorites, and each one is a look at humanity through a slightly tilted lens, but let's talk a bit more about "Blade Runner" and why it deserves just as much if not more love than Scott's more popular sci-fi film, "Alien."

He’s so soft and gentle today and I’m like, ‘That’s not the man I remember.’ But he’s the man who put the energy and the idea together, knew what the audience wanted and demanded...
