We probably don’t need to tell you that these are tense times in America.
After a decade of simmering tensions that some have described as a “cold civil war,” we now face what promises to be an ultra-dramatic conclusion to a historically bonkers election season.
How did we get to this point? Can we ever rebuild what we’ve lost? And if so, how do we keep it from falling apart again?
(Copyright 2017, FX Networks. All rights reserved.)
These are profound and important questions — and we’re not even gonna attempt to answer them here.
What we will do, however, is explore a familiar patch of common ground in an effort to remind our fellow Americans of what still unites us.
We’re talking, of course, about the wonderful world of television.
Yes, TV — the most American of all mediums.

Drea de Matteo is most famous for playing Adriana La Cerva on The Sopranos, where she was the troubled girlfriend of mobster Christopher Moltisanti, a role that won her an Emmy. She also played Wendy Case, the strong-willed ex-wife of Jax Teller, in the hit show Sons of Anarchy.
Recently, she revealed in an interview that she was offered a role in a Marvel project but decided to turn it down to focus on her family, especially because her son would get upset whenever she had to leave for long filming trips.
The actress shared that she no longer felt attracted to the Hollywood lifestyle or its focus on material things, so she decided to stay closer to home and embrace a simpler way of living.
I was offered some Marvel thing, and I turned that down because my son was crying every time I’d go to Canada to just guest star on something.

She also starred as Wendy Case, the rebellious ex-wife of Jax Teller, in the popular series ‘Sons of Anarchy’, but as it turns out the actress was offered a Marvel role as well, which she declined for a good reason.

Drea de Matteo seemed to be poised for a significant Hollywood career following her Emmy Award-winning turn as the doomed Adriana La Cerva in HBO's The Sopranos, but after several big-screen supporting roles and more TV work in the likes of Joey, Sons of Anarchy and Desperate Housewives, the actress stepped away from acting.
Now, de Matteo has revealed that this extended sabbatical wasn't exactly her decision, as her anti-vax stance during the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in her becoming "persona non grata among the Hollywood set."
“Without a phone call or an email. Just told me through my manager, and that was that," the actress tells Variety. "I couldn’t work anymore. To be demonized over a medical choice when they keep screaming, ‘Pro choice,’ I’m like, ‘Do you guys hear yourselves?’”
To make ends meet, de Matteo started an OnlyFans account that's proven to be a massive success.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the latest episode of "The Penguin."
If there's any cable network that understands the age-old trope that even the biggest villains oftentimes consider themselves the hero of their own story, it'd be HBO. The so-called Prestige TV era first defined itself with classics such as "The Wire" and "The Sopranos" back in the late '90s and early aughts, both of which featured some of the most unsavory characters in all of fiction who nonetheless didn't see themselves that way. This golden age of television would soon be joined by the likes of "Breaking Bad," "Mad Men," and other rivals that followed in their footsteps by placing complex, three-dimensional, but ultimately very bad people in the role of lead protagonist.
It comes as no surprise that "The Penguin" would take its cues straight from "The Sopranos" in that regard, spinning off from Matt Reeves'...

When you think of killer TV dramas, Breaking Bad and The Sopranos are always in the ring, ready to rumble. But here’s the lowdown from Vince Gilligan himself: he’s got a secret sauce that makes Breaking Bad stand out. While Tony Soprano’s all about that morally gray life, Gilligan’s got a different vibe.

He dives straight into the crazy transformation of Walter White—from mild-mannered teacher to full-on drug lord. It’s all about watching the chaos unfold as Walter makes some seriously bad choices. That clear-cut moral compass? It keeps us hooked.

Drea de Matteo never was particularly political. Her only partisan statement came via a 2010 music video she directed for Shooter Jenning’s “Summer of Rage” — a not-so-subtle jab at the Bush-Cheney administration’s ever-churning war machine. In 2020, she voted for the first time in her life in the presidential election, casting her ballot for Joe Biden in his bid to replace Donald Trump in the White House. Then, as the Covid pandemic entered its second year, everything came crashing down for “The Sopranos” actress whose Adriana La Cerva provided the sole conscience in a sea of moral degenerates.
“I’m a hippie. I didn’t want to get the vaccine. I wanted to wait it out to see what the outcome was,” she says.
Her family shunned her for being anti-vax. She became persona non grata among the Hollywood set. And her agent, who she considered a friend, dropped her.

Breaking Bad is a show that a lot of fans remember fondly, given the impact that it had on TV audiences. One of the few shows that were at the center of the cultural zeitgeist throughout its run, there were a lot of facts that contributed to its status as a pop culture phenomenon.

However, there is one show that had an influence on Breaking Bad, without which it would not have been possible for the show to reach the heights that it did. It is almost common knowledge that Breaking Bad owes a lot to another television phenomenon, The Sopranos. The creator of the show, Vince Gilligan talked about how without The Sopranos, Breaking Bad would have a very tough chance of getting on television.

The Sopranos is frequently remembered by TV fans as being one of the greatest crime shows ever. The series delved into the life of an angsty mobster Tony Soprano and his day-to-day struggle as he reluctantly agreed to go to therapy.
James Gandolfini transitioned from a movie star to featuring on the small screen, but it was not an easy road to success. The actor had to face several inconveniences and struggled a lot during the filming period. One interview revealed that he wanted to quit the hit show daily until he managed to find the strength to appear in front of the camera again.
Commit, Quit, Reappear: The repeated cycle
Tony Soprano became a legendary character due to his convoluted personality and relatable life struggles. Few fans, however, are aware of the actor’s rocky journey when he started The Sopranos and struggled under the weight of the fame.

Fans’ perceptions of certain characters in Tulsa King have reasonably changed after the last few episodes, especially in the case of Jay Will’s Tyson and Neal McDonough’s Cal Thresher. While the show initially attempted to paint Thresher in an intimidating light, especially after he persuaded Armand into taking his offer, this no longer seems to be the case.

Episode 7 has especially been a wake-up call for fans, as not only did it highlight Tyson’s incompetence in the criminal world, but it also proved that Thresher is way over his head.

The second season of HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us is set to air sometime in the first half of 2025, and fans were given their first peek into what it would hold when the official trailer was released this past September. While there were a number of easter eggs hinting at how the show’s producers were staying true to and/or veering away from the franchise’s roots, the most fascinating element of the trailer was its narrative framing device: a conversation between lead character Joel (Pedro Pascal) and a therapist played by Catherine O'Hara. This raised some eyebrows, as Joel never goes to therapy in the show’s source material: The Last of Us video games from developer Naughty Dog.
That got gamers asking: would Joel as a character choose to go to therapy at all? The video game community’s consensus is that their version...

When it debuted on September 22, 2001, "Star Trek: Enterprise" was meant to be a bold new step for the "Star Trek" franchise. "Star Trek: Voyager" had ended its seven-year run the previous May, marking the closure of a three-series orgy of "Star Trek" shows that began in 1987. "Star Trek: The Next Generation," set almost a century after the events of the original "Star Trek" series, proved to be unexpectedly popular, introducing a whole new 24th-century vernacular into the "Star Trek" mythos. That show spawned "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" in 1993, another show set in the 24th century, and that shared a few characters with "Next Generation." After completing its run in 1994, "The Next Generation" moved onto feature films, with "Voyager" debuting in January 1995. It, too, was set in the 24th century. The 1990s were a good time to be a Trekkie.

We're inching closer to the finish line on HBO’s The Penguin, the limited series spinoff to Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Each week, as we learn more about the crime world of Gotham and the villains who inhabit it, we also dig deeper into the supporting characters who impact the leads, such as Oz Cobb’s (Colin Farrell) mother Francis (Deirdre O'Connell). What makes Oz such a great character is how complicated he is; not only is he ruthless and conniving, but he's also awkward, insecure, and needs reassurance from his mom.
We get to know Francis a little bit throughout The Penguin, and while she might have a limited role, O'Connell’s performance does a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to explaining why Oz is the way he is. After Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King has been the next big hit for Paramount, which isn’t surprising given the star power of Sylvester Stallone. But while the Stallone-led series has succeeded in rivaling the Western drama’s numbers, tonally, the two couldn’t be more different, as the mob drama doesn’t shy away from touching more absurd territories with its comedy.
However, compared to the first season, there is a noticeable step down in the writing department in the new addition, as certain storylines in the show further add to the idiocracy of its supporting cast.

Slamdance, the indie film festival established almost 30 years ago in response to the cultural monolith of Sundance, is unveiling its first ever awards show franchise.
“The Indies” will be an annual ceremony celebrating “the spirit of truly independent filmmaking,” according to organizers. The inaugural event is set for Dec. 9 at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles. Comedian-actors Nic Novicki and Steve Way (“Ramy”) will host.
The Indies will focus on narrative and documentary features from filmmakers in North America. Eligible movies must have played at one or more domestic film festivals held over the calendar year. There’s an added guardrail to keep The Indies as cutting edge as possible: movies that set world premieres at Sundance, SXSW or Tribeca are not eligible for a trophy.
“The U.S. indie film sector is struggling, with only a handful of streamers and studios actively acquiring indie films — and it’s not enough.

The Sopranos is one of the most critically acclaimed TV shows in history, ending its grand run in 2007 with season 6. Throughout its run, it set a benchmark for how crime drama series were supposed to be, enticing, chilling, exhilarating, and exasperating all at the same time.
Led by James Gandolfini as mob boss Tony Soprano, its finale still continues to spark debate and speculation despite all this time. A drama that ran successfully for six seasons, blending themes of brutal crime with deep psychological and family themes, The Sopranos was never destined for a seventh season it seems.

The creator David Chase always had a clear vision of how the series was supposed to end despite the common belief that HBO might have something to do with its end. The series apparently had run its course and had reached its peak, so continuing it would have potentially negatively impacted the narrative.

Is “Shōgun” about to pull a “Succession” at the 2025 Golden Globes?
Currently at Gold Derby, the FX historical epic leads three top categories in our Golden Globe predictions: Best Drama Series, Best Drama Actor for Hiroyuki Sanada, and Best Drama Actress for Anna Sawai. If it also manages to pull off a fourth victory in a supporting race, it would match “Succession’s” total of four from last year.
For its final season, HBO’s family drama won the series prize at the Golden Globes and it also took home trophies for lead actors Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook, plus supporting player Matthew Macfadyen.
If “Shōgun” rides off with only the three top categories for series, lead actor, and lead actress, it would still be in good company indeed, as only a handful of dramas have done so. Besides “Succession” in 2023, “The Crown” most recently accomplished this feat in 2020. Before that,...

Does Hollywood have an unhealthy fascination with a DC universe without Batsy? It’s not a bizarre claim by any stretch of the imagination. While little is seen of the Caped Crusader himself, we are mostly served corners of Gotham that this grungy version of Batman seldom inhabits. The latest entrant from HBO, The Penguin, doesn’t buck this trend; instead, it embraces it fully.
This is, however, not the hot mess of a Joker: Folie à Deux or Suicide Squad, (almost forgot about Birds of Prey here) but rather a look at a grimy Gotham in the aftermath of Matt Reeves’ 2022 film. More often than not, the show does not feel like it is DC or Batman; it feels like a flippin’ gangster series and a Frank Miller comic-book delight.

Every now and then, there comes a show that takes the mainstream by storm, either causing the media industry to change for the foreseeable future or becoming an important trivia question in a puzzle or two. Patrick J. Adams revealed where he thinks Suits lands on that spectrum.

Among the shows that change television, there are often some pallet cleansers that fans and audiences like to circle back to time and time again. These shows often don’t have much to offer by making a splash in the industry, but end up being comfort watches for their audiences. This is exactly the category where Patrick J Adams thinks Suits falls in.

Notable for penning some of the finest pieces of television with The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire, writer Terence Winter is once again excelling in the small screen with Sylvester Stallone’s Tulsa King. Although on the surface level, Stallone’s Dwight and James Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano might not seem much different, given their history with the mob, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Irrespective of their criminal history, writer and executive producer Winter detailed why the two are substantially different.

Taylor Sheridan’s comedy-drama series Tulsa King presents a unique mixture of comic and crime elements on TV. The Sylvester Stallone starrer showcases the journey of Dwight Manfredi, a former American Mafia caporegime who is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The character undergoes various trials and errors as he works hard to start his criminal empire from scratch at the new location. The show’s setting called for a detail-oriented costume design which introduced viewers to the land. The former showrunner, Terence Winter also included his special wish to see one character dressed up in Austin Powers’ style, which made fans speculate if Sheridan greenlit the decision.
The special focus on costume design and its inspiration
Paramount’s Tulsa King presents its characters in the relatively unexplored backdrop of Oklahoma’s Tulsa. Like Dwight who is played by Sylvester Stallone, most of the audience was also unaware of the place’s charms and aesthetics.

If you’re tuning in to HBO’s The Penguin—and nearly everyone is—you’re likely aware that, alongside Colin Farrell’s standout performance as The Penguin, Cristin Milioti’s portrayal of Sofia Falcone is one of the series’ highlights.
Milioti has received acclaim for her role as the female lead, consistently stealing the scene whenever she appears.
Fans are embracing her dark and complex interpretation of Sofia, a character who could easily fit into any top-tier mafia drama, such as The Sopranos or Boardwalk Empire. Given this enthusiasm, it’s no surprise that interest in Milioti’s character is soaring, and we’ve come across an engaging interview worth sharing.
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Cristin Milioti opened up about her role in The Penguin and her past obsession with Catwoman. The interview also features comments from showrunner Lauren LeFranc, who had nothing but praise for Milioti...

If you’re watching HBO’s The Penguin – and almost everyone is – you’ll probably know that aside from Colin Farrell’s brilliant performance as The Penguin, the absolutely best part of the series is Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone.
She is the female lead and also the scene-stealer whenever she appears. Milioti has been praised for her performance as Sofia and is one of the series’ most intriguing characters.
The fans love her dark and twisted take on the character, with Sofia looking like a character that could fit into any A-level mafia show, like The Sopranos or Boardwalk Empire, for example.
In light of that, we aren’t surprised that interest in Milioti’s character is great, and we have found a very interesting interview to report on.

Back in 2020, streaming service Peacock announced that it had begun development on a television series based on The Green Bone Saga, the crime family fantasy book series by Fonda Lee. Alas, it was not to be; in 2022, Lee announced that Peacock had halted development on the series. I'm still mad about it, because The Green Bone Saga is an amazing book series that is perfect for television, and it baffles me that some studio or other hasn't snatched it up yet.
If you're not familiar with The Green Bone Saga, congratulations, you probably just discovered some of your new favorite books. Primarily set on the island of Kekon, The Green Bone Saga introduced readers to a world where rival crime family clans vied for power and control of magical jade, which is used to imbue warriors with powerful abilities like super strength and agility. While comic book capers are in a bit of a funk right now, there’s a glimmer of hope in the form of Lauren LeFranc’s The Penguin, a spinoff of director Matt Reeves' 2022 film The Batman. Joker: Folie à Deux might not have lived up to the impressive standard set by 2019’s Joker, but The Penguin is being praised as one of the best TV shows around.
It feels like only yesterday that Colin Farrell’s portly Penguin waddled into our lives in The Batman, and although some were originally skeptical of spinning Reeves’ world out into more live-action projects, this gritty crime drama with nods to The Godfather and The Sopranos has rightly earned its place as one of Gotham’s greatest.
More than just stellar performances from Farrell and Cristin Milioti (playing Sofia Falcone), The Penguin has turned into an Easter egg hunt worthy of the Dark Knight himself.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s diet is not for the lactose intolerant. She spoke about her extreme milk cleanse with fellow former co-star of The Sopranos and onscreen sibling Robert Iler for the Not Today, Pal podcast. Sigler admitted there are going to be those questioning her methodology, considering many celebs have gone in the opposite direction when it comes to dairy in the past. “You’re going to think I’m crazy,” she said during the October 10 episode, which featured Mike Cannon. “It’s shocking because I too love food. I love sweets.” The 43-year-old revealed, “All I’ve been drinking for days is whole milk and that’s it.” Those who watched the show on YouTube saw Sigler holding the hydro flask and providing visual proof that she does indeed got milk. She took a drink and further went into the reasoning behind her Vitamin D-enriched fuel. “The idea behind it is parasites love dairy,...

For years, those behind the scenes of The Simpsons have been constantly questioned about when the show will end — and this is mostly coming from fans. Sure, the show is well past its prime, but that doesn’t meant there aren’t a few tricks up the sleeve, as demonstrated in season 36 opener “Bart’s Birthday”, which set itself up as The Simpsons’ series finale. Obviously it wasn’t, and unfortunately for some of the producers, they are only fielding more questions about when and how the longest-running sitcom ever will wrap up.
While producer Al Jean — who joined The Simpsons during its infancy — acknowledges that the show is probably nowhere near its finale, he did think the season opener gave a good opportunity to address the topic. “The idea was we’ve been asked that question so many times that we wanted to close further discussion of it. Jeremy Strong said in a recent interview with The Times of London that playing Kendall Roy on HBO’s “Succession” for four seasons “fucked me up.” The actor won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for the role, but he has no interest in returning to the world of “Succession” because he “sometimes lost touch with joy” while having to stay in Kendall’s tortured mindset.
“That show was an incalculable gift. The material a banquet. So I miss that. But Kendall’s struggle was difficult to carry for seven years,” Strong said. “And there’s just so much more I want to do.”
When asked about a Kendall Roy spinoff series, Strong responded: “It’s not something I have any wish to do any longer. I’m aware it is one of the main chapters of my life, but I don’t miss it.”

Okay, I get it. The West Wing is a fantasy. But it’s not just a liberal fantasy television series. It is a series that celebrated patriotic Americans who all thought they were working to create a better country. The staffers in the west wing of the White House and their president strove to bring their best efforts, and as we watch, we see them try and fail, we see them try and succeed, and we see them try and not get everything they wanted. There was no breast-beating or pouting on national television.
The 1999-2006 series celebrated patriotism and intelligence, two things lacking from way too many elected officials today, making us long for the Bartlet Administration. Long overdue, Warner Home Entertainment has chosen the show’s 25th anniversary to finally release The West Wing: The Complete Series on Blu-ray.

The Emmy-winning actor played the downfall of the antiheroic character to perfection and has made White a.k.a Heisenberg a pop cultural icon. He stands with characters like Don Draper from Mad Men and Tony Soprano from The Sopranos as the best antiheroes on TV.
While White has caused a lot of harm to others trying to safeguard his dr*g empire, the truly shocking part was probably him poisoning a child. In th fourth season, it is revealed that White poisoned Brock Cantillo with a lily of the valley plant. However, fans are still clueless about the logistics of the act and how White managed to do it.

Jeopardy!‘s latest season has crowned its first Tournament of Champions-worthy winner as Mark Fitzpatrick closed out his fifth game with a winning score against fellow competitors Mike Obstgarten and Cynthia Bullock. Already a four-day champ, Mark went into the October 10th game with $81,600 already in the bank and completed the night with six digits worth of winnings totaling $107, 201. The content manager from Riverside, Connecticut really shined as he boosted his score during each Daily Double, giving him an edge over the other players. Heading into Final Jeopardy!, Mark led the pack with $18,600 against Mike’s substantial runner-up score of $12,800, and Cynthia’s $4,400.
