Often considered ,along Henri-Georges Clouzot, the French Hitchcock ,it was only natural that Chabrol had his own "CC Chabrol presents ", a TV miniseries in which he acts as the MC.
In the seventies ,he had already directed " Histoires Insolites " ,some of which, although shorts, were better than some feature films of his uneven career.
In "Sueurs Froides" ,he does not direct ,but appears at the beginning and at the end of each short, lecturing us,generally cynically....
...just like Alfred Hitchcock whose shadow briefly appears over the cast and credits ;and the message is not clear enough, " Sueurs Froides " (=cold sweat) was the original French title of " vertigo" when it was initially released in 1958-today this title has fallen into disuse ,and the French call it "vertigo" - And "Vertigo" was based on a French detective story ("D'Entre Les Morts" ) written by Boileau /Narcejac whose editor was "Denoel " ;the short stories of the miniseries were also published by "Denoel".We've come full circle.
Even though he did not direct, the simple name of Claude Chabrol attracted plenty of French stars ,who generally do not work for TV.Many of them had already starred in Chabrol' s feature films .
