“Run Lola Run” star Franka Potente felt “invincible” while filming Tom Tykwer’s playful, propulsive 1999 hit, which had her running full-tilt through Berlin three times in a row to save her boyfriend, with a different outcome each time.

“I remember feeling invigorated all the time because you feel like you’re part of the process,” Potente raved to TheWrap about working with the director on the breakout film, which is back in theaters for its 25th anniversary.

“Tom immediately invited me into his way of thinking and made me a part of it. I wish more directors were aware of this, because you get more out of the experience with your actors,” Potente added. She and Tykwer started dating after “Lola” and then re-teamed for “The Princess and the Warrior” in 2000.

Director and producer Tom Tykwer has become managing director of Berlin-based production company X Filme Creative Pool, best known for “Babylon Berlin,” alongside Uwe Schott. Tykwer succeeds Stefan Arndt, one of Germany’s leading producers.

The reorganization of the company’s management is intended to “sharpen the focus on the development and implementation of creative, bold and unusual material for film and television,” according to a statement.

Arndt is leaving at his own request but will remain associated with the company as a producer.

X Filme Creative Pool was founded 30 years ago by Tykwer together with the writers and directors Wolfgang Becker and Dani Levy as well as Arndt. The four founders, who remain shareholders together with Beta Film and Bogey, based themselves on United Artists with the aim of producing sophisticated films with an audience appeal – or, as Variety put it, “intelligent films that audiences want to see.”

Tom Tykwer’s return to the big screen is getting closer. Tom Tykwer is coming back to the movies.

The German director of Run Lola Run and Cloud Atlas has announced his return to filmmaking with the German drama Das Licht (The Light).

The feature, which has just wrapped principal photography, is described as a portrait of a family “between collapse and new beginnings” and deals with the major issues of our time “in a world that is reeling.”

Das Licht is Tykwer’s first feature film since 2016’s A Hologram for the King, starring Tom Hanks. He has spent the past seven years on TV, co-creating and co-directing, with Henk Handloegten and Achim von Borries, four seasons of the acclaimed and award-winning German historic series Babylon Berlin.

Krzysztofs Kieślowski and Piesiewicz were collaborating on the first screenplay of a planned trilogy riffing on the Divine Comedy when Kieślowski died. His long-time writing partner finished the triptych, though it's impossible to know how accurately 2002's Heaven presents the last word from the Polish poet of deviant religiosity. Two weeks ago, Franka Potente (Copper) entered the Briar Cliff Manor, claiming to be Anne Frank (yes, That Anne Frank) and that Dr. Arden (played creepily by James Cromwell) was a Nazi war criminal, who performed experiments on young girls. That’s just a sliver of this wild, disturbing and unsettling season of American Horror Story: Asylum has in store for viewers.

Potente who is still fondly remembered for her starring role in Run Lola Run, saw more exposure with roles in Blow and the Jason Bourne films. Brief stints on The Shield, House M.D. and Psych opened television to her and she is currently a regular on BBC America’s Copper, which just got picked up for Season 2. Potente is also working on her first fiction novel. We recently spoke briefly with Potente on a conference call about this juicy role and some of the elements about Ahs that make it so compelling.

Of all the insane things we've seen so far in "American Horror Story: Asylum" -- aliens, Bloody Face, surgically-mutated Chloe Sevigny -- Franka Potente's character ranks right up there with the craziest.

Potente checked in to the "Asylum" this week as a mysterious new inmate claiming to be Anne Frank (as in the Anne Frank) and insisting that the asylum's creepy Dr. Arden (James Cromwell) is actually a Nazi who performed hideous experiments in a Holocaust concentration camp. She's so convincing that even Sister Jude (Jessica Lange) starts to believe her.

After that disturbing final scene revealing exactly what Arden had done to Sevigny's poor character Shelley, we're starting to believe Anne too. But the biggest twists are yet to come: all will be revealed in next week's episode, "I Am Anne Frank, Part 2."

In recent months, Tykwer's name has most often been attached to those of the Wachowskis, as he is currently teaming up with the sibling filmmakers on the extremely ambitious literary adaptation "Cloud Atlas." Cologne, Germany -- Tom Tykwer's menage a trois drama "Drei" (Three) and new adaptations of Franz Kafka and Daniel Kehlmann were among the projects backed in the latest round of funding by regional subsidy body Filmstifftung Nrw.

The Nrw film board signed a €400,000 ($600,000) check for Tykwer's latest -- the director's first German-language film since "The Princess and the Warrior" (2000). The drama, starring Devid Striesow, Sophie Rois and Sebastian Schipper focuses on a 40-something couple in Berlin who, separately, fall in love with the same man. "Drei" has already secured around $1 million in subsidies from the Berlin-Brandenburg Medienboard and some $750,000 from federal film board the Ffa.

Jochen Alexander Freydank, an Oscar winner for his 2007 short "Toyland," picked up €225,000 ($336,000) in backing from Nrw towards his feature debut, an adaptation of the unfinished Kafka short story "The Burrow." Frankfurt, Germany -- Tom Tykwer has secured a further €500,000 ($747,000) in financing from the German Federal Film Board (Ffa) for his film "Drei" (Three), currently shooting in Berlin.

"Drei" will be Tykwer's first German-language project since "The Princess and the Warrior" (2000).

The threesome drama centers on a fortysomething couple in Berlin who separately fall in love with the same man. It stars Devid Striesow ("The Counterfeiters"), Sophie Rois ("Learning to Lie") and Sebastian Schipper, who has had supporting roles in Tykwer's "The Princess and the Warrior," "Run, Lola, Run" and "Winter Sleepers."

Tykwer's longtime business partner Stefan Arndt is producing through their Berlin-based X Filme shingle. Shooting is set to wrap in November for a late summer 2010 release through X Filme's distribution arm X Verleih.

Run Lola Run and Perfume director Tom Tykwer is set to make his first German-language feature in nearly a decade titled Drei (which means Three in German). The film is a comedy-drama centered on a love triangle. Tykwer's last German-language film was The Princess and the Warrior from 2000. Produced by Berlin-based X Filme, Drei is described as a "tragicomic film about love, morality and gender in late modern Germany, set against late modern Berlin backdrops -- a story of a love triangle with social and cultural-philosophical depth." Sounds like it could be a good return to form for Tykwer and a return to homeland. Although I didn't really care for The International, I still love Tykwer, and just think back to Run Lola Run or one of my all-time favorites, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. Cologne, Germany -- Tom Tykwer’s “The International,” an action thriller starring Clive Owen and Naomi Watts, will open the 59th Berlin International Film Festival on Feb. 5, 2009, screening Out of Competition.

It will be Tykwer’s second Berlinale opening, following “Heaven” which bowed at the 2002 event.

But unlike “Heaven,” which was an art-house film more on the lines of Tykwer’s “Winter Sleepers” (1997) or “The Princess And The Warrior” (2000), “The International” marks the German director’s jump into the major leagues.

The director of indie hit “Run, Lola, Run” (1998) proved he could handle a big budget with his last picture, the opulent olfactory epic “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer” (2006). But “The International” is Tywker’s first film with a U.S. studio. Sony co-produced with Germany’s Studio Babelsberg and will release the film in Germany Feb. 12 and stateside, via Columbia Pictures, Feb. 13.

“The International,” is also Tykwer’s first all-out actioner.

COLOGNE, Germany -- True, a 10-minute short by German director Tom Tykwer, will premiere in Germany together with Achim von Borries' Sundance entry Love In Thoughts, the films' distributor X Verleih said Friday. Starring Natalie Portman and German actor Melchior Beslon (The Princess and the Warrior), True is Tykwer's contribution to Paris, Je T'Aime, a series of shorts by top international directors set in the French capital. Tykwer also wrote the screenplay for the short, his first film since Heaven in 2002. True and Love In Thoughts will be released Feb. 12 in Germany, after the European premiere of Love in the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival.
