When we sing the time of cherries.....
Written by Jean-Baptiste Clement at the time of "La Commune" ,this initially revolutionary song is heard at the beginning of Jean-Paul Dreyfus's work ,this Dreyfus who was none other than Jean -Paul Le Chanois ,whose work was trashed (you guess it) by the New wavelet ;if his later works were rather poor ,some of earlier efforts such as "L'Ecole Buissonnière" should be seen by his detractors .
Le Chanois is a pseudonym;the cast and credits of this movie read "Jean-Paul Dreyfus" ;the story is a bit confused ,and it's hard to catch up with the plot and the numerous characters (it's like Duvivier"s "Un Tel Père Et Fils" )do not help .A downright communist movie,it tells the story of two families ,a wealthy one and a working-class one.
Good scenes :
- the fishing party, spoiled by those who own ....
-the medal the boss wanted to give to his worker and which he refuses (I wish it could be a chocolate one!)
-the fair and the prize the young couple wins : a doll or 2 kilos of sugar ;after choosing the doll, the girl returns but cannot make up her mind.
-the meeting and the people's plea for a square deal for the underprivileged (in this case ,old age pension);by a strange irony of fate ,this concept was adopted in Vichy,1941.
