“The Book of Life” writer/director/animator/actor Jorge Gutierrez is putting his spin on the opening to this Sunday’s annual “Treehouse of Horror” edition of “The Simpsons.” Gutierrez and composer Juan Carlos Enriquez have put together an intro/couch gag to “Treehouse of Horror Xxxv” (or in this case “El Treehouse del Horror Xxxv”) that includes a version of the Jarabe Tapatío with Día de los Muertos and lucha libre-style imagery. Scroll below to watch.
The opening, features stylized versions of Bart Simpson and Otto rocking out, Marge and Lisa taking down Jailbird, Bart facing off with Krusty the Clown, a Maggie-operated Homer going after a Smithers-led Burns and Bumblebee Man smashing Sideshow Bob (as Comic Book Guy wears a T-shirt that proclaims “Worst Intro Ever”). Finally we see that it has all been controlled by aliens Kang and Kodos, who have been playing a game of “Los Simpsons Fighter!

Spoiler Alert: Details follow for Season 36, Episode 1 of “The Simpsons,” “Bart’s Birthday,” which aired September 29 on Fox.
“The Simpsons” kicked off its Season 36 premiere on Sunday with what the show dubbed its “series finale.” Hosted by an animated version of former “Simpsons” writer Conan O’Brien, the episode opened with “The Simpsons” characters and other notables entering a Dolby Theatre-esque venue to celebrate the show’s ending.
“It’s such an honor to be with you all for the series finale of ‘The Simpsons,'” O’Brien said in his opening monologue. “I knew I was the right man for the job because I’ve hosted the last episode of three of my own shows and counting… Well, it’s true. Fox has decided to end the Simpsons. This show was such a special part of my early career, so being here means the world to me. Also. I left...

Adam West has had countless adventures as Batman in live action. He portrayed the Caped Crusader in the legendary ABC TV series, which ran for three seasons from 1966 to 1968, and its live-action spinoff movie. In addition to this spectacular run as one of the most fun portrayals of Batman, he had a wonderful voice acting career. Many may remember him for his voice roles on The Fairly Odd Parents or Family Guy, but his career with DC was a huge part of his animated exploits.
West directly continued his time as Batman in The New Adventures of Batman (1977) all the way through to 1985's Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians. He also played Batman on Robot Chicken's third DC special, with an appearance from Burt Ward as well.

As opposed to the artists of the computer animation community, stop-motion workers don’t have a labor union that can protect them from on-the-job hazards, ensure their livelihoods and advocate for them in abusive workplaces — and they never will, if Seth Green and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios get their way.
In a TV landscape where budgetary limitations and tightened production schedules has led to most animated shows sporting a soulless aesthetic “sameness,” the long-running Adult Swim sketch series Robot Chicken stands out as a bastion of traditional, “practical” animation. Stop-motion animation is, inarguably, far slower and more laborious than the computer-assisted alternatives, but Robot Chicken and its production company, Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, have almost single-handedly kept the art form alive — or, it would be more apt to say, the stop-motion artists of Stoopid Buddy Stoodios are doing the hard work of preserving the medium with every painstakingly staged frame of Green’s flagship series.

In 2005, an episode of Adult Swim animated series “Robot Chicken” featured a segment parodying the films of M. Night Shyamalan, who had then just released critical failure “The Village” the previous year. Titled “The Twist,” the sketch depicts Shyamalan as a screeching jokester with a heavy Indian accent who reacts to everything that happens to him and his family by turning to the camera and exclaiming “What a twist!”
For many people, that sketch sums up Shyamalan’s public persona: He’s a man who loves his twist endings. Born in India and raised in Philadelphia, Shyamalan directed a handful of films before 1999’s “The Sixth Sense,” but it was that cultural phenomenon — and the now legendary twist ending that closes it — that introduced him into the popular consciousness. A macabre drama starring Bruce Willis as a child psychologist working with a young boy (played by Haley Joel Osment) who can communicate with the dead,...

It was a long time coming, but Sam Elliott finally earned his first Oscar nomination for “A Star Is Born” (2018). He contended as Best Supporting Actor for this musical drama about a failing rockstar (Bradley Cooper) who falls in love with a rising pop star (Lady Gaga), but can’t kick his drug and alcohol addiction despite the best efforts of his girlfriend and his older brother/manager (Elliott). Let’s take a look back at 15 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
In a career spanning 50 years, Elliott has received scant awards recognition for his film career. He has, however, contended at the Emmys for his work in “Buffalo Girls” (Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actor in 1995) and “Robot Chicken” (Best Voice-Over Performer in 2013). He competed at the Golden Globes for “Buffalo Girls” and once more for “Conagher” (Best TV Movie/Mini Actor in 1992).

The Simpsons is bringing some huge names to Springfield this fall! At San Diego Comic-Con last month, producers spilled the details on celebrity cameos and creative collaborations coming up in Season 36.
Kicking things off is Conan O’Brien in the episode “Bart’s Birthday.” Conan was actually a Simpsons writer way back when, so it’ll be fun to see him back where it all began. Danny DeVito is also stopping by the party – he first played Homer’s brother Herb years ago, so viewers will be curious to see what role he plays now.
Another big name making his Simpsons debut is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. I mean, John Cena! The former wrestling-turned-movie star seems like a natural fit for the show’s silly humor. And can you believe they got Tom Hanks too? The Oscar winner has never appeared on the show before now.

The 35th annual “Treehouse of Horror” episode is coming from “The Simpsons” this Halloween season, and we’ve got a preview out of San Diego Comic-Con this afternoon.
The team has revealed at Comic-Con today that this year’s “Treehouse of Horror” will spoof Venom with the segment Denim, centered on Homer’s “deep relationship with a simple alien symbiotic pair of jeans.” Check out the teaser poster for that segment down below.
Showrunner Matt Selman tells Variety, “It’s a really funny, silly segment… the jeans are going to be actual stop motion denim created by the Stoopid Buddies animators that do the ‘Robot Chicken’ shows.”
Additionally, we’ve learned that another spooky episode of “The Simpsons” is headed our way this coming Fall titled “Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes.” That episode will spoof a trio of stories from Ray Bradbury, who of course wrote Something Wicked This Way Comes.

Even though Game of Thrones ended only 5 years ago, back in 2019, many people were so devastated about the way the writers decided to finish the story, they tried to forget about it altogether. It’s not a bad gig working with Seth Green and the gang at Stoopid Buddy Stoodios. They’re the crew behind the goofy animation on Robot Chicken, Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. and Crossing Swords. And now they’re getting another crack at an epic Simpsons couch gag.
“Did you see @stoopidbuddystoodios new @thesimpsons couch gag?” asked Green in his latest Instagram post. “We are beyond thrilled to be a part of this iconic history.”
It’s a journey to the center of the Simpsons’ couch, with Homer pulling on a loose thread that sends him falling between the cushions. As 2D cartoon Homer plummets into the depths of Inner Sofa, he is somehow transformed into a 3D, crocheted version of himself where he’ll confront all of the lost treasures that live inside his aging furniture.

Sean Bean, the well-known actor for his work in Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings has starred in many other projects across entertainment. From Robot Chicken to Hitman 2, he’s more than Ned Stark or Boromir. Recently, a former Firaxis Games developer recalled his favorite piece of trivia.

Quick show of hands: how many of you reading this knew there were five "Sleepaway Camp" movies? Put your hand down, liar in the back, I see you. Casual movie fans are likely aware of "Sleepaway Camp" due to the film's infamous ending, or tracked it down after that one "Robot Chicken" sketch where they recreated the ending with claymation as a character exclaimed, "Oh, my god! For a while, Jar Jar Binks seemed to be the most hated character in cinema. The backlash against him was something to behold following the release of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 25 years ago, but attitudes towards the Gungan have softened somewhat as a new generation has embraced the character. While speaking with Inverse, Best revealed that Star Wars creator George Lucas gave him a valuable piece of advice at the height of the Jar Jar backlash.

Despite the fact that the main characters became world famous, Beverly Hills, 90210 was the first and last major project for most of the cast.

Exclusive: The Wolper Organization has tapped Jordan Allen-Dutton (Robot Chicken) to pen the script for its recently announced Richard Simmons biopic produced by and starring Pauly Shore, Deadline has learned.
While the title of the film hasn’t yet been disclosed, nor specifics to the approach it’ll take in depicting the life of the famed fitness guru, producer Mark Wolper has shared that it will be “a dramatic and heartfelt feature in the tone of Little Miss Sunshine.” Shore came to the project after campaigning for years to play Simmons in a feature, given popular online opinion that no one resembles the fitness icon more than him. Previously, he portrayed Simmons in The Court Jester, a short film written and directed by Jake Lewis that sold out multiple screenings in Park City, Ut earlier this year and garnered over a million views on YouTube in 24 hours.

Annie, are you okay? You look like you might faint after producer Graham King turned up at CinemaCon to surprise the crowd with a first look at Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic, Michael. Said to be an emotionally intense depiction of the King of Pop, Michael is positioning itself as a Huge event film. JoBlo’s editor-in-chief, Chris Bumbray, is in the crowd and says Michael will surely be controversial.
During his presentation, Graham said he knows everyone has an opinion about Michael Jackson, for good or ill. However, he did change the world of pop music forever, and his controversy made him a fascinating subject for Fuqua’s film. Graham also said Jackson was an enigma, but behind everything was a man with a very complicated, difficult life.
Michael contains 30 songs from Jackson’s legendary catalog. Next, a trailer played for the crowd, showing Jaafar Jackson as the Gloved One.

The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” is embracing the Motown sound — announcing key castings including Larenz Tate as Motown Records founder Berry Gordy and Kat Graham as the legendary Diana Ross.
As the film chronicles Jackson’s rise to prominence — first as a member of the Jackson 5, then as a solo artist — the record label will factor in significantly. “Power” franchise star Tate (who coincidentally played “Thriller” producer Quincy Jones in 2004’s “Ray”) takes on the Motown impresario Gordy, who redefined American music by platforming such acts as the Jackson 5, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, the Four Tops, Gladys Knight and the Pips and Diana Ross & the Supremes.
Graham portrays Ross, who, as lead singer of the chart-topping group, was asked to officially introduce the Jackson 5 to the world and remained a lifelong influence on Michael Jackson.

Star Wars fans haven’t seen Lando Calrissian – that is, the Billy Dee Williams version – on the big screen in five years. But will we ever again? With so many Star Wars projects on the horizon, it’s possible that Lando could turn up in some corner of the galaxy…But would Williams ever don the cape again? Sure – provided you show him the dough.
As Billy Dee Williams told Radio Times on any potential return to the character, “Pay me a lot of money and I’ll sell my soul.” As portrayed by Williams, Lando Calrissian first appeared in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back, a former friend of Han Solo’s and one-time owner of the Millennium Falcon, the lore of which would be explored later in the Star Wars saga. Williams would return as Lando for 1983’s Return of the Jedi but wouldn’t reprise the character again – in the flesh,...

The 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel "It" may be best known for Tim Curry's performance as Pennywise, who made an entire generation seriously terrified of clowns, but it would be nothing without the heart and soul of the Loser's Club. In the 1950s, a group of misfit kids growing up in Derry, Maine are brought together, partially because they don't belong anywhere else, but also because they happen to be targeted by the malevolent force that haunts their town, stealing and murdering its local children. Together, they have to face off against Pennywise to stop the killing once and for all. That's what they think, anyway. But despite defeating Pennywise as children, they're forced to return to Derry as adults and once again confront the terrors of their youth.
As a result of this, "It" has an interesting casting dilemma of finding not only seven...

Dan Harmon has established a pretty neat little entertainment empire, creating the beloved cult hit "Community" before co-creating "Rick and Morty" and overseeing Apple TV+'s "Strange Planet" and Fox's "Krapopolis." But it's been a rocky road to success for Harmon, who was previously kicked off his own show before being rehired, and in 2018 had to publicly apologize for his prior mistreatment of "Community" writer Megan Ganz — and those are just a couple of examples of the man's controversies. Despite these debacles, however, Harmon has been an entertainment mainstay for well over a decade at this point, and during that time he's not only managed to create several of his own successful shows, but he's also apparently been fairly influential in perhaps the biggest Hollywood success story of the modern era: the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"Star Wars" has infiltrated every aspect of pop culture, whether it's lightsabers or just the "pew pew pew" sound effect that blasters make. Still, for the most part, our universe is pretty separate from George Lucas' galaxy far, far away. We (sadly) don't have blue milk, and jizz is not the number one music genre in the world. We don't have droids either, although the "Star Wars" galaxy doesn't have cellphones or the internet.
And yet, it seems there is one thing all universes, fictional and otherwise, can agree on — how refreshing it is to have a cold beer. Sometimes, when you're fighting the Empire, you need to relax. Some people take to death sticks. Others take to Cerveza Cristal.
Indeed, the latest online "Star Wars" sensation is a series of commercials that aired on Chilean Canal 13 in the early 2000s. When the original trilogy aired in the country,...

The sequel to 2010’s legendary animated film Megamind was released recently on Peacock to negative responses and extreme criticism. Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate acted as a sequel as well as a pilot for Peacock’s Megamind Rules! TV show. However, fans of the iconic film were not happy with the resulting product, with the film scoring a lousy 0%.
The sequel has been in the making for over ten years and has infuriated fans as their time has been wasted. The film is reportedly the worst-rated film by DreamWorks Animation, who are also awaiting the release of Kung Fu Panda 4. Despite being a popular IP, the film failed to impress any of the audiences, and here are three reasons behind the failure of the sequel.

One cannot understate the strange cultural dominance Hugh Wilson's 1984 comedy "Police Academy" held over the pop zeitgeist throughout the 1980s. Clearly a child of "Animal House," "Police Academy" was a traditional snobs-vs.-slobs comedy that pitted winking wiseacres against their stern commanding officers at a police school in an unnamed city. I've long had a theory that the "Police Academy" movies take place in Metropolis, the city where Superman lives. With Superman taking care of major crimes, the local police force would likely become complacent, unused to enforcing the law.
None of the "Police Academy" movies were well-reviewed, recognized by critics as crass, dumb, and low-brow. This is a series that banks on misogyny, offensive stereotypes, and a lot of crotch/sex humor. There is no wit to the "Police Academy" movies. Roger Ebert famously gave the first film zero stars, citing merely how dreadfully unfunny and uninspired it is.

David Lynch had some hesitations about acting in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans. However, once he took on the role of John Ford, he had one simple request — a bag of Cheetos.
“Well, Cheetos, number one, I love them,” he told Empire magazine of his requirement for appearing in the film loosely based on Spielberg’s life. “And any chance I can, I get them. But I know that they’re not exactly health food. So when I do leave the house and I get a chance to… But I don’t get them that often, honestly.”
He continued, “If I do get them, I want a big bag. Because once you start… you need to have a lot before you could slow down and actually stop. Otherwise, with a small bag, then you’d be prowling for days to find more […] It’s incredible flavour.”

20th Century Fox wasn’t sure what it had in Star Wars, and apparently, neither did George Lucas. The director was building up his company, Lucasfilm, and unleashed his secret weapon: Charley Lippincott. He whipped people into a previously unknown frenzy by working the fans at science fiction and comics conventions. He saw to it DelRey had the novelization out months before the film, as well as three of the six-issue comics adaptation from Roy Thomas and Howard Chaykin at Marvel. These people were lined up for day one, and the word of the month spread so fast that it endured throughout the summer of 1977.

There are “child stars,” and then there are performers that start working during childhood only to become bona fide, beloved screen icons, enjoying long, varied careers throughout their lives. Following in the footsteps of Shirley Temple, Natalie Wood and Mickey Rooney, Macaulay Culkin has — for three decades and counting — been a contemporary standard bearer for that personal and professional journey.
Culkin became a full-fledged cultural phenomenon after the explosive commercial success of his fifth film, 1990’s “Home Alone,” which he made when he was just 10 years old. The film grossed $476 million worldwide, due in direct part to his mischievous-yet-vulnerable performance as Kevin McAllister. But beginning in his teenage years, Culkin began seeking projects that piqued his artistic interests rather than sustaining his immediate and colossal celebrity. Even without any expectation for those subsequent efforts to reach the same stratospheric heights as his early breakthrough, Culkin’s star wattage has barely flickered,...

TBS original comedy “Miracle Workers” has been canceled after four seasons, Variety has confirmed. The cancellation comes just months after the series finale aired in August.
Set in a post-apocalyptic future, Season 4 (aptly titled “End Times”) of the anthology comedy picked up with wasteland warrior (Daniel Radcliffe) and a ruthless warlord (Geraldine Viswanathan) as they face the most dystopian nightmare of all: settling down in the suburbs. “Together they navigate the existential horrors of married life and small-town living, all under the dubious guidance of a wealthy junk trader (Steve Buscemi),” reads the description. Previous seasons covered the Oregon Trail and the Dark Ages.
In addition to Radcliffe and Viswanathan, the series also starred Karan Soni (“Deadpool”) and Jon Bass (“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law”), and Karan Soni. It’s been a long wait for Invincible season 2. Ever since father-son duo Nolan and Mark Grayson signed off in a symphony of bloody violence in early 2021, fans have been clamoring for more superheroic action. Now the time has finally come as Invincible season 2 is set to premiere its first episode on Nov. 3 on Prime Video.
While Invincible and Omni-Man naturally take up a lot of the attention for this very good Amazon series, let’s not forget the rest of the expansive cast of characters that make up the world created by comic writer and show producer Robert Kirkman. Like any good superhero saga worth its salt, Invincible has a very deep bench of compelling heroes, villains, aliens, civilians, and more.
The bench is so deep, in fact, that it can be hard to keep track of everyone. With that in mind, here is a helpful refresher on...

Exclusive: Comedian Brad Williams has unveiled his latest comedy special, Starfish, announcing that it will premiere exclusively on the streaming platform Veeps on Thursday, December 21st around 5 p.m. Pt.
Williams’ new hour, filmed at Sony Hall in New York City, sees him talk about navigating relationships and everyday life as a little person. He says that he selected the 21st as its premiere date given the fact that
“it’s the shortest day of the year!”

The slasher boom of the 1980s was a wild time, where filmmakers were attempting to capitalize off of the popularity of films like John Carpenter's "Halloween" and Sean S. Cunningham's "Friday the 13th," while also trying not to appear like a cheap rip-off of either title. This led to success stories like the "Child's Play/Chucky" franchise, or colossal failures like "Boggy Creek II: And the Legend Continues." And then there are films like 1983's "Sleepaway Camp," a slasher film viewed as a classic by some and unforgivable schlock by others. There are five (you read that right) films in the series, but none have been able to capture the magic or reputation of the first one. Introducing scream queen Felissa Rose in her very first feature, "Sleepaway Camp" is a notorious bit of '80s camp (literal and metaphorical) known for casting actual teenagers to play the campers.

More than 100 artists contributed to our “Our Frasier Remake,” a frame-by-frame redo of a 1994 episode of NBC sitcom “Frasier,” with the Seattle psychiatrist reimagined as a Lego figure, as Claymation and a dazzling array of other animation styles.
The trailer for the indie project, which follows similar projects “Our Robocop Remake and “Our Footloose Remake,” dropped on Wednesday. It will premiere on Oct. 11 in theaters in Los Angeles, Seattle and Austin, the day before the official reboot, which sees Kelsey Grammer returning to his Emmy-winning role, debuts on Paramount+
“Our Frasier Remake” redoes the Season 1 finale, with 185 uniquely animated segments: A different artist is responsible for each section, reimagining it in their own visual style.
Creator/director Jacob Reed said the episode is “a thinly veiled question about whether or not a spin-off of ‘Cheers’ called ‘Frasier’ was worth it.”
“Three decades later, we’re asking the same question about the reboot,...

Based on their responses online, the Hollywood writers impacted by the WGA strike are happy with their deal – a lot happier than the last time around.
This new three-year contract between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers includes significant gains for the guild, including substantial raises, minimum staffing requirements, a 26% increase to residuals and guaranteed protections on A.I.
Throughout the strike, social media, X in particular, has been a reliable way for writers to share their stories and saltiest hot-takes. But after the WGA accepted the AMPTP’s deal, that refrain of complaints has turned into one of celebration – contrasted with the end of the 2007-2008 strike, which brought its share of grumbling.
The 2023 deal has been called “tremendous,” “exquisite” and “incredible.” “The writers low-key kicked the AMPTP’s collective ass,” Paul McCallion, a New York-based writer and actor, wrote.

Hulu has been making targeted investments to build out its animation catalog and recently created a dedicated “Animayhem” hub on its service for its adult animation and anime content. Fox’s “Animation Domination” predates the streaming wars and Hulu is continuing that tradition by leaning into the strength of its animation programming, including many of the long-running shows that formed the cornerstone of Fox’s programming block.
In a sign of how far Hulu has come in its push to dominate the adult animation landscape, eight of the 10 most in-demand adult animation series in the past year were available to stream on Hulu. Six of these were available exclusively on the service. However, the most in-demand adult animated comedy in the U.S. in the past year, “South Park,” was only available to stream on Max.
