Ridley Scott's "Alien" requires no introduction, having injected new life into the sci-fi space horror genre that aggressively centers on an otherworldly species with an ever-evolving lore. The equally effective, blockbuster-coded "Aliens" was followed by a string of sequels of varying quality, but I don't deem any of these flawed entries as terrible or unworthy, as they bring their unique quirks to the table. Fede Álvarez got all our hopes up with his recently-released "Alien: Romulus," which reiterates some of the best aspects of the franchise in an amalgamation of effective scares and tense sequences, but lacks severely in the originality department, for better or worse.
Of course, "Alien: Romulus" is not a weak entry when evaluated on its own merits, but it is impossible to detangle the influences it wears on its sleeve from its core identity, which feels like the muted beating of a feeble heart. /Film's...

You’ll never quite look at shepherding the same way after watching Bring Them Down, debuting writer-director Christopher Andrews’ pitch-dark drama about two Irish farmers engaged in a long and bloody turf war. Relentlessly bleak, with more livestock gore than any movie in recent memory — the film that comes the closest is fellow Irish director Billy O’Brien’s 2005 bovine thriller, Isolation — this violent first feature is carried more by leads Christopher Abbott and Barry Keoghan than by its dour storytelling.
The two compelling actors play herders struggling to get by in the muddy hills of west Ireland, where a longtime feud between their families degenerates into an all-out dogfight (or is that a sheep-fight?). The battle more or less kicks off as soon as the movie starts, and one problem with Bring Them Down is how we’re directly plunged into a conflict whose key players we know little about.

Fede Álvarez, the director behind Alien Romulus, has revealed some surprising details about the inspirations behind his movie. It turns out that The Last of Us Part II heavily influenced not just the storyline but also the characters in his film.
Álvarez has shared on X that while working on the script, he was playing the game, and it left such a strong impression on him that he decided to weave elements from the game into his movie.

Are we about to get the year's best (unofficial) video game adaptation? All the pressure is on "Alien: Romulus" director Fede Álvarez to deliver on his promise to bring the classic sci-fi/horror franchise back to its terrifying roots, and the early reactions would seem to confirm that he's managed to accomplish exactly that. In fact, it appears that this legacy sequel goes so far as to pay homage to everything that's come before, from Ridley Scott's original "Alien" to every subsequent film as well. But in a pleasant surprise, this apparently extends even to the expanded material for the series -- namely, "Alien: Isolation."
Rejoice, gamers. By the looks of it, all those countless hours you spent hiding while playing the classic survival game released back in 2014 is about to pay off in a big way. The game follows Amanda (voiced by Andrea Deck), the daughter of Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley,...

Alien: Romulus director Fede Alvarez has talked about the influence of 2014 videogame Alien: Isolation on his upcoming movie.
A truly frightening survival horror game, Alien: Isolation, developed by Creative Assembly and released in 2014, is also one of the best Alien games ever made. It sounds as though Alien: Romulus director, Fede Alvarez is also a fan, with the filmmaker recently revealing on the Total Film podcast that the game was a direct inspiration for his upcoming entry in the film saga.
Set 15 years after Alien, Isolation introduced Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen, hunting through a space station called the Sevastapol. Hunting for her mother, Amanda instead encounters a familiar monster. Framed in a limiting first-person perspective, players were forced to run and hide from the fearsome creature, with the ingenious twist being that its appearances weren’t pre-scripted – it could turn up anywhere and at almost any time. One of the main reasons for Helldivers 2‘s success is the community management, and the relationship Johan Pilestedt has built with the players. Thanks to his efforts, the social media presence of this game has grown significantly, drawing in many players due to its popularity on the X platform.
On Pilestedt’s personal account, he often posts about things unrelated to the game, such as his enthusiasm for a particular horror game. Recently, the team behind Alien: Isolation celebrated its tenth anniversary, and Pilestedt congratulated the studio for creating a fantastic horror game.

Alien: Rogue Incursion, the highly anticipated spiritual successor that people have been waiting for since the release of Alien: Isolation, has finally dropped a chilling first look at the gameplay.
Developed by Survios, the game is set to release during the holiday season this year. One thing people didn’t expect was that the game is exclusive to the VR; could this be the marketing push the PSVR2 needs to finally see better days?
Sorry Folks, The New Alien Game is for PSVR2 Only The aliens are back, and they’re as terrifying as ever.
The PSVR2 isn’t one of the better-selling VR headsets of this generation, but the release of Rogue Incursion could change everything. People have been waiting for a new game in the franchise for a while, and if this can build enough hype, people might be enticed to drop some cash and grab a headset for themselves.

Alien: Isolation is a special game; every single element of it works. Even in wireframe, without the Alien-themed coat of paint, it makes for a completely satisfying gameplay experience. If you had a different styling to it, the world would still feel fully realized and fun to navigate. The tension of being stalked by a relentless predator would be amazing even if it wasn’t the much-beloved Xenomorph. This all coalesces into a great experience that is only elevated by setting it in a perfect rendition of the Alien Universe.
Many other games have been set in this world, but they often don’t capture the soul of the franchise in the way that Isolation does. The ones that find success usually do so by adopting the tone of Aliens rather than Alien. The faster, more action-packed style is more conducive to the medium of video games, giving you...

Few artists can set a scene like Kali Uchis. Each of her albums has proven that she’s a master of mood boards and a queen of aesthetics: Her 2018 debut album, Isolation, was a lush world of retro R&b best enjoyed on a heart-shaped couch; 2023’s Red Moon in Venus included cosmic, shape-shifting pop songs to be drunk up during a lunar eclipse. Across each project, she’s stitched disparate sonic textures together like fabric swatches and placed her voice front and center — allowing it to gently guide her...

It’s been almost two years since Valve released their powerful Steam Deck handheld console. Since then, it’s been clear that Steam Deck verification has been a priority selling point for games of all sizes.
If you’re looking to take your horror on the go, here are eight games that will run on the Steam Deck.
Faith: The Unholy Trinity
PS1 visuals may be hot right now in the indie space, but Faith: The Unholy Trinity finds visual and mechanical inspiration from 8-bit gaming. The pixelated visuals resemble an Atari 2600 game, featuring rotoscoped animations that are truly chilling. I’m surprised more games don’t feature Satanic Panic and exorcism, because Faith finds clever ways to translate the ritual into gameplay. Its simple mechanics run perfectly on a handheld system, so this feels like discovering some sort of cursed Game Boy cartridge that will haunt your dreams.

A sold-out show at the Hollywood Bowl merits no less than a special guest — or two. During Kali Uchis’ show at the storied Los Angeles venue, the singer surprised fans with special appearances from Omar Apollo and Tyler, the Creator during her career-spanning set.
After opening her show with “Muñekita” and her Tyler, the Creator collab “See You Again” by herself, Uchis welcomed frequent collaborator (and gay bestie) Apollo for his verse on Red Moon in Venus‘ “Worth the Wait.” The Mexican singer received a lap dance from Uchis’ backup dancers during the performance.

A star-studded gathering of musicians honored the late guitar legend Jeff Beck with two tribute shows on Monday (May 22nd) and Tuesday (May 23rd) at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Eric Clapton, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Rod Stewart, Johnny Depp, Zz Top’s Billy Gibbons, and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry were among the major names who took the stage to perform material and covers that Beck himself played during his lifetime.
Highlights included a rousing cover of Beck and Depp’s take on “Isolation” by John Lennon — performed by Hammett, Gibbons, and Depp (who released the song as a collaborative single with Beck in 2022); Stewart tearing through a four-song medley with Clapton; and Gibbons and Depp taking on Zz Top’s “Rough Boy,” a song Beck and Gibbons used to play together.

It’s St. Patrick’s Day, and Syfy’s celebrating accordingly with a marathon of the Leprechaun movies. But if you’re looking for horror inspiration beyond the pint-sized killer’s holiday-appropriate franchise, a vast world of worthy Irish horror movies is available at your fingertips.
If you’re feeling lucky, here are ten Irish horror movies you can stream today.
Grabbers – AMC+
If you’re in the mood for a horror-comedy creature feature, this movie is the answer. A small island off the coast of Ireland becomes ground zero to an alien invasion. These tentacled monsters, dubbed Grabbers by the locals, have an affinity for human blood. That’s terrible news for the locals until they discover alcohol is highly toxic to the spaced invaders. Naturally, they deduce the only way to survive the attack is to get hammered. Drunk villagers versus man-eating aliens make for an entertaining way to spend St.

When the Oscar nominations came out earlier this year, we saw the literal luck of the Irish (at least in terms of nods). For starters, British-Irish filmmaker Martin McDonagh’s acclaimed black comedy The Banshees of Inisherin garnered nine nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor for Colin Farrell, and Best Original Screenplay. Additionally, the in-demand heartthrob Paul Mescal earned a Best Actor nomination for Aftersun while The Quiet Girl represents Ireland in Best International Feature, becoming the country’s first film to do so.
It was a good day in January for Irish representation, although how things shook out later on Oscar night might be the flip side of that luck.
Nonetheless, to mark this particular occasion, along with St. Patrick’s Day, below is a list of eleven recommended modern films that are at least co-produced by Ireland and which chiefly take place on the Emerald Isle for those...

HBO’s latest hit series The Last of Us now officially has a soundtrack for its first season, a massive, 66-song compilation of all the music scoring the post-apocalyptic tale. Check it out below.
After working on the original The Last of Us video game, composer Gustavo Santaolalla returns for the HBO series, joined by fellow artist David Fleming. In an upcoming interview with Consequence, Santaolalla describes his approach to the soundtrack, saying, “The process of adapting, it was more in a way like craftwork than actually a new creation, because the themes were there, those things are there, like the characters, it wasn’t about creating a new job, it wasn’t about finding what is interesting. For example, in seeing how Pascal and Bella, they’re different than the actors that played the voices, but at the same time, they keep the soul of the characters intact.”

Things thankfully start to pick up on Kung Fu Season 1 Episode 10, but it still managed, only slightly, to make an impression.
Evan received help from Nicky and Althea on a complex case, while Ryan introduced his boyfriend, Joe, to his parents.
Zhilan's side of the episode happened to be the best, with her and Kerwin facing some trouble.
Nine episodes had passed since Ryan talked about when he came out to his parents on Kung Fu Season 1 Episode 1. I thought that they might have forgotten about the struggle with coming out to parents altogether.
Thankfully I got proved wrong with Choice.
Ryan did something that sometimes proves to be more complicated than coming out -- he introduced his boyfriend to his parents.
Seeing as Ryan revealed that his parents did not take his coming out well, his nerves proved to be a big obstacle.
His parents ended up being pleasant...

The recent reveal of Aliens: Fireteam (a co-op shooter from Cold Iron Studios based on the film of the same name) has quickly proven to be one of the year’s most welcome surprises so far. At a time when the Covid-19 pandemic has left us questioning when previously revealed games will be released, the seemingly simple announcement of a potentially major, entirely new game on the horizon feels much more hopeful than ever before.
Besides, after all these years, there is still a special something about the Alien franchise that has never faded away. Even though recent Alien movies failed to capture even a hint of what made Alien and Aliens two of the finest sci-fi films ever made, nothing has truly diminished the shine of their gold standard status.
Mind you, it hasn’t been all bad. 2014’s Alien Isolation, for instance, is widely considered to be one...

Elle King has moved on from a bad relationship, but her ex won’t let it go in her emotive performance video for new single, “Another You.”
Cowritten by King, Sam Fischer and John Hume, “Another You” discusses heartbreak and second chances at new love. In the intimate performance clip, King sings directly into the camera as she details actions from a former lover who made “a bad decision,” which led to their demise. Yet, after their relationship has ended, the pursuit continues. However, she’s done with the game.

Forty years ago, on December 8th, 1980, John Lennon was murdered outside of his New York City apartment building. Three days prior to the tragic event, he spoke with Rolling Stone for nine hours. He was famously photographed by Annie Leibovitz for that story, naked and curling up in a fetal position next to a fully-clothed Yoko Ono. “This is it,” he told the photographer. “This is our relationship.” The image would become the cover of our January 22nd, 1981 issue, a heartbreaking tribute to the legend whom Rs founder Jann Wenner...

Sean Lennon marked what would’ve been his father John Lennon’s 80th birthday with a cover of “Isolation” for The Late Show’s #PlayAtHome music series.

“I’m sick and tired of hearing things from uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics,” John Lennon sang on his 1971 single “Gimme Some Truth.” In a time of fake news and false narratives, Capitol/UMe will release the real deal, a collection titled Gimme Some Truth. The Ultimate Mixes. The 36-track collection will be available on Oct. 9, 2020, which would have been the legendary musician’s 80th birthday. Gimme Some Truth. will also be released as a 19-track CD or 2 LP, a 36-track 2Cd or 4 LP.
“In everything he did, John Lennon spoke his truth and questioned the truth,” reads the press statement. “An incomparable and uncompromising artist who strove for honesty and directness in his music, he laid bare his heart, mind and soul in his songs, seeing them as snapshots of his current emotions, thoughts and world view. “Isolation,” a horror anthology film, has finished its principal photography shooting entirely in quarantine.
The film weaves together nine standalone, yet interconnected, horror stories from all corners of the world. It follows people as they confront their biggest fears in attempts to survive an increasingly deadly pandemic, a premise that hits close to home for many people during the coronavirus crisis.
The teams of filmmakers on the project include Dennie Gordon; Larry Fessenden; Bobby Roe (“The Houses October Built”); Andrew Kasch (“Tales Of Halloween”); Zach Passero (“Wicked Lake”) and Christian Pasquariello (“Alien Invasion: S.U.M. 1”). The anthology will also showcase new voices in horror with films by Alexandra Neary (“The Innocent”), Alix Austin and Keir Siewert (“Retch”), and Kyle I. Kelley and Adam Brown (“The Music Lesson”).
For “Isolation,” producer Nathan Crooker created a fictional world set many months in the future that is based around the coronavirus pandemic.
