- A timid con man panics when he learns he's going to prison for fraud, so he hires a reclusive martial arts guru who helps transform him into a kung fu expert with the ability to fight off convicts who want to either hurt or love him.
- The fraudulent real estate agent Stan is married with his beloved Mindy and has a seven million dollar fortune. When he is arrested for fraud, he is sentenced to three years in prison and his assets are frozen by the justice. However, his crooked lawyer Lew Popper negotiates a six month freedom, and the weak Stan, who is afraid of being raped in prison, hires the specialist in martial arts The Master to teach him self-defense. Six months later, Big Stan is sent to the Oaksburgh State Penitentiary totally confident in his expertise in martial arts. He challenges the violent leaders of the gangs and defeats them, being respected by the inmates and bringing peace in the patio. However, the dirty Warden Gasque has the intention of transforming the penitentiary in a luxury resort, and uses Big Stan knowledge to improve his project, promising to release him sooner using the corrupt penal system.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Stan Minton (Rob Schneider) is a wealthy real estate con artist, married to Mindy (Jennifer Morrison). One day, he is found guilty of conning elderly people out of their savings. His lawyer Mal (Richard Kind) defends him at the trial. Upon being found guilty and sentenced to 3 years in prison, he's given 6 months by Judge Perry (Richard Riehle) to get his affairs in order. Stan wanted Mal to bribe the judge, but he refused. So, Stan hires Lew Popper (M. Emmet Walsh), a corrupt lawyer, who bribes Perry, but only manages to delay the sentence by 6 months. Popper suggests Stan leave the US permanently to escape jail, but Stan has $7 MM frozen in banks and doesn't want to leave that behind.
Stan's fear of jailhouse sexual assault strains his marriage to Mindy (she wants a baby before Stan goes to jail). Stan practices ass assault with Mindy, while he takes illegal steroids to build muscle mass. His search for a trainer leads him to hire the mysterious guru known as "The Master" (David Carradine) who helps transform him into a martial-arts expert. Stan agrees to pay the Master once his bank accounts are frozen. Mindy tries to befriend The Master, but he is dismissive and aloof.
The master puts Stan on a brutal regime of raw protein, prohibits sex with Mindy and makes him train all day. The master works on strengthening all the weak spots of the body like nipples, belly etc. The Master smokes all over Mindy's house and makes Stan eat scorpions. Eventually, Mindy can't take it anymore and leaves the house as Stan refuses to get rid of the Master. After she leaves, the Master kicks up the training intensity, including strengthening hitting power of Stan's hands and fingers. Eventually, Stan gets a lot better and is able to defend himself in hand-to-hand combat, weapons and breaks bricks with his bare hands.
During his incarceration, Stan befriends an elderly inmate named Larry (Henry Gibson) including a sympathetic prison guard named Bullard (Kevin Gage) and learns more about the cliques and gang activities formed inside the prison. Cleon (Buddy Lewis), leader of Black Gang. Patterson (Salvator Xuereb), leader of the Nazis Gang. Juanito (Peter Vasquez), leader of Mexicans Gang. Big Raymond (Bob Sapp), a tough inmate is the biggest sexual predator.
He then uses his new-found skills to bring peace and harmony to the prison yard by intimidating his fellow inmates into preventing them from harming each other. He picks a fight with Raymond and humiliates him publicly. the Nazis want Stan to join them, but he beats them up and when the blacks attack him (for attacking Raymond), he beats them up too. With this, peace is restored in the prison and Stan gains their respect, eventually becoming their leader. Patterson tries to shiv and sexually assault Stan, but Stan easily beats him, and Patterson is sexually assaulted by the blacks instead.
However, the corrupt warden Gasque (Scott Wilson) has plans to force its closure with a riot and sell off the property as valuable real estate to develop timeshare condominiums. Stan helps him with the real estate aspects in exchange for early parole (in 12 months). Dang (Tsuyoshi Abe), Vietnamese Mafia is Gasque's partner in the real estate scheme. Stan points out to Gasque that his contract with Dang leaves him open to infinite liability and refers Gasque to Popper to get them fixed. Unknown to Stan, Dang attacks Popper. Stan's peacemaking efforts threaten the warden's plan for a riot. Stan throws out all violent video games and movies and brings in dancing to romantic Mexican music as a way for the groups to collaborate. Stan bans sexual assault inside prison (except for sexual predators and child molesters) but allows consensual homosexual sex.
Mindy reconciles with Stan over letters and comes for a conjugal visit with Stan. She reveals that the master is still living at the house and teaching her Kama Sutra positions. Stan thinks Mindy is having sex with the Master and gets jealous. Gasque reveals his plan to Stan. In a week, a board of governors will convene. Gasque will engineer a riot and his guards will shoot and kill prisoners to bring the situation under control. In the scandal, the governors will sell the property to Dang. Gasque tells Stan to end his prison reform in exchange for a parole hearing. Stan wants to go back to Mindy and takes the deal. Pretty soon, prison reverts back to normal, and Larry is disappointed in Stan.
In a last-minute attack of conscience, Stan deliberately blows the parole hearing to rush back and prevent the deaths of his fellow inmates (on the way he fights Dang, who was blocking his way), only to discover that his message of peace has sunk in, and the prisoners are dancing instead of fighting. Warden Gasque orders the guards to open fire on the dancing men. When they refuse, he grabs a gun in front of the Board of Governors and shoots wildly. Warden Gasque attempts to shoot Stan, but he is stopped by Mindy and the Master, who had sneaked in. Stan was surprised that the Master had trained Mindy during his incarceration.
Three years later, Stan leaves the prison which is now run by Bullard while Gasque becomes the new inmate following his arrest for his illegal activities. Stan is met by his wife, his young daughter Mindy Jr. (Faith Womack), and the Master outside the prison. While the Master has become Mindy Jr.'s nanny, Stan is annoyed that he has been smoking near her.
