I enjoyed 'The market' immensely. I have never seen a NZ series quite like this one. It shows life as it really can be amongst the various ethnic groups in Otara and other places in NZ. People in these ethnic groups, and the life they lead can be very intense indeed, and this was plain to see in the series. The closeness of the family members, and the unity and support given in times of stress was clear also. The tender love between the Romeo and Juliet (Julia and Tipene) team was wonderful to see, and the humorous behaviour of the grandmother was hilarious.
My opinion of the acting ability of all the cast is that they are excellent, without exception, and they made the 'whole' come together very well. I would love to see a 2nd series. I heard through the grapevine that the Otara residents loved it too.
There was a certain amount of crudity in the sex scenes, which I did not like, and thought was not necessary, hence the vote of 8 instead of 10. The other thing i did not like was the late time slot, 10.30 pm. I know of quite a few who did not watch it because of the time.
