- TriviaThe show is based on "Consolevania", an hour-long video games show from the same team which started being distributed on CD-ROM by postal mail in 2004. Online distribution followed, and the series drew enough media attention and critical praise that it was picked up for broadcast, albeit in a more structured fashion and with some of the more dubious recurring jokes excised. Legend, the online gaming champion featured in series 1, is one of the few characters to make the transition. Consolevania purportedly had a larger viewership than some of BBC Scotland's own shows at the time.

Featured review
video Gaiden was probably the number one thing on television in 2006...IF you happen to like video games, Scottish people and general insanity. VideoGaiden is the creation of Rab Florence and Ryan McCloud, the creators of cult online games programme Consolevania. it delivered reviews which were somehow still quite informative despite being absolutely hilarious, welded together with completely insane sketches about the gaming world and Rab's "Gaiden Guide to...", which was basically a weekly rant against, well, anything vaguely connected to video gaming which annoyed Rab on that particular day.
as Rab himself would say..."if you don't like me...if you're the BBC...then you probably won't like video Gaiden..."
