I've been a pretty big Princess Peach fan ever since I stopped being in a weird phase where I hated anything remotely feminine (a phase that many of us can relate having at some point because of a little thing called 'internalized misogyny'), now she's one of my favorite video game characters of all time as she got such a cute design and a personality that fits.
The game 'Super Princess Peach' is, just like Princess Peach herself, very cute, the game is also pretty easy for the most part so as someone who's not very good with older games, this is a plus.
Alright so since I've already mentioned misogyny, let's get this out of the way... The full emotion mechanic thing, yeah so I can't say it aged all that well but I also can't say that I haven't seen more offensive, so it doesn't bother me that much.
Honestly, depending on how you look at it, Peach's main powers being her emotions can either be really sexist or really empowering as she *is" using them to her advantage, sure, you could argue that it doesn't matter as it still contributes to the "women are too emotional" stereotype (a stereotype that's been disproved by literal science by the way) despite inverting the typical gender roles of the other Mario games but I would argue back that there's no use arguing about a DS game from 2005.
Besides, we've already come so far in terms of female protagonists in video games, I mean we've got the 'Tomb Raider' reboot trilogy, 'Bayonetta', 'Horizon Zero Down' , 'Kena : Bridge of Spirits' and so much more, including the new Princess Peach game 'Princess Peach : Showtime!' and the upcoming Zelda game that is actually staring Zelda for once.
And the thing is, even with the weirdly sexist undertones the game may have, it's still a fairly cute and fun game that any fan of cozy DS game should try at least once (even if the newer Princess peach game is way better in almost every way), it also just looks very nice and colorful, it's a good time waster.
