Irrfan Khan was offered the film, but due to his poor health, he turned the lead role down.
Udham Singh has been the subject of a total of four films.
Director Shoojit Sircar's first biopic.
This is Vicky Kaushal's third biopic after Sanju and Uri.
As shown in the climax of the film, Governor Michael O'Dwyer and Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer remained unapologetic and unrepentant about killing at least a 1000 people in Jallianwala Bagh on 13 April 1919. What is not depicted in the film is that the British Government supported them and the British press supported them including some prominent individuals like Rudyard Kipling, the man who wrote Jungle Book was a huge supporter of this massacre and raised funds for Dyer. Sadly, some traditional elite and newly rich contractors felicitated Dyer and O'Dwyer. It is to be noted that a certain Arun Singh, invited Dyer to the Golden Temple and presented him with a robe of honour few weeks after the massacre. This has been documented in Sanjeev Sanyal's well-researched book 'Revolutionaries' released in 2023.
