Yeah. A few minutes in and I had to acquire an alcoholic beverage to finish it. So-so to bad acting, cheesy lines, bad jokes, plot holes bigger than a planet.
BUT! LISTEN! That is what it is SUPPOSED to be! Do not click watch to see epic sci-fi. Click watch to see beings just trying to make a living in a verse, click to see salvage operations, space ships that need repair, bars full of bar flies of all kinds, and in spite of all the cheesiness, an almost realistic grit and desperation you see in real life. I gave it a 6 because it will do, for this viewer who is addicted to all things space, until other shows come along. After the alcohol hit, it got more tolerable, even enjoyable, AS LONG AS I REALIZED WHAT TO EXPECT.
It made as much sense as Space Balls, so there's that.

Well I watched episode one and here's my 2 cents.
The storyline isn't original by any standards , you know the age ol' heir to the throne trying to survive while the current over lords try to capture or kill them gag . The acting was mediocre at best there were times that I looked away cause it was embarrassing to keep watching but being a sci fi nerd I had to get through it . The special effects and CGI feels like they were done by a graphic designer finishing up their degree ( I am sure you will be great mate but you arnt there yet) Overall not a good start but I will give it another episode or two a chance and then stop following.

The premier episode breaks the cardinal rule of any new series, it fails in making the viewer interested in anything that is going on.
The story telling, the characters, and the acting are all out of young adult adventure story 101. I kept getting the same vibe I get while watching one of my sons Nickelodeon shows, like "Henry Danger". This show just had foul language and violence.
The lead actress is high school level amateurish in everything she does. I might be willing to forgive it if this were he breakout premier performance, but she has apparently been acting for years. I pick on her as she is supposed to be our star, but she fits right in with many of the cast.
This show is what replaced "Killjoys". What a pale replacement it is.
I'm not sure what SYFY was going for, but I think they missed.
When you watchin sci fi tv show as sci fi lover you expect a bunch of universes, planets, spaceships, etc., so you realize what I mean. However, this TV show deals with a interpersonal relationships both in a sexual sense and in a sentimental sense, it is both unnecessary in such a genre, especially when it is overemphasized in both cases. Honestly don't see a future for this tv show.

The acting is forced. The special effects are Commodore 64 level. The story is, to quote the first episode, "I saw this in a movie once." It takes Star Wars, Firefly, and Degrassi. Then it removes the portions of those shows with substance and intelligence. Finally it tries to channel Thor: Ragnarok with attempts at clever imgery.
And Ta-da! Vapid Queen... oops. I meant Vagrant.
There is a sci-fi show I'll watch every single day - Not Yours.

Think Babylon 5 or Farscape but with sinfully cheese jokes. This show knows what it is and doesn't pull its punches. The actors know they're making B-list, '80's-esque sci-fi and they LEAN INTO IT! It's corny, cheese, borderline cheap, and perfect. I'm looking forward to watching more.

First up this is clearly a show with a tiny budget, and so it has some rough edges. But damn it's fun. Funny, energetic, and irreverent yet somehow is already injecting some solid heart and feels in there.
The show looks stunning, the three core characters have great chemistry, the villain is the best kind of over the top unstable. Fun soundtrack keeps the pace up. So many nods to other sci-fi seemingly poking fun at the cliches it's using.
I couldn't believe how quickly the episode went, and how much happened. In an age of film length stories dragging themselves out over the hours and hours of a tv series, this was a breath of fresh air. So sad not to be able to binge the lot.
Some of the VFX are a bit shoddy, the CG feels especially dated, and while I appreciated the bright colours and style they were going for, I wish they had opted for an even more lofi approach and used old school physical models instead.
But I've already watched the pilot twice, and am eager for more, I hope they keep it up, and if they do, it'll be the easy tv pleasure I so often crave.

"Cheesy", "Campy", "Retro"...?
Do you truly understand what those terms mean? They only apply to shows that are able to be described that way and still be enjoyable! Vagrant Queen is NOT an enjoyable show. Horrid acting, especially by the lead actress. Makeup is questionable as to whether they're trying to look like crap or they ARE just crap. The effects are the only standout but with the technology available to almost any production budget nowadays... I'm not surprised.
To make matters worse is the amount of 8, 9 and 10 star reviews. Are you serious? It's rare to see ANYTHING that truly rates a 9 or a 10. To see so many highly rated reviews on this title is proof that they're likely actor and production staff for this show. Don't trust them... don't waste your time.

I'm really enjoying following the series so far, it's surprising. It plays with tropes in such a way that you get thrown around emotionally, and narratively. I've laughed a lot, but then something will happen, or there'll be a moment which hits you out of the blue, and suddenly your sad, or feeling the love and warmth between these characters. The baddie is a truly bad baddie, and the sudden spikes of extreme violence in this show keep you on your toes and offset the almost Dad joke style humor. But why do Dad's get to have all the funny cheesy jokes. Reclaim the cheese.... yes please!!!

We as viewers and supporters do not have to attack different shows because a network decided to get rid of one of our favorites. This is the first episode of a campy space opera that kind of reminds me of a loose Tank Girl meets Killjoys. If you like SyFy with a touch of action, you will mostlikely enjoy this show.

All these reviews feel like they've been written by the same person. Vagrant Queen has alot of potential. That being said there are barriers it has to overcome to be a good show. Budget being one. Obviously they didn't have alot of money to film this. But it's still enjoyable. It's rough in some sectors. Yet that should be expected for a sci-fi show in it's first season. Let alone a show with only an episode aired. The cast was solid. Although there were spots where it seemed that Adriyan Rae came off as flat when she needed to do the emotional heavy lifting. Overall it was fun. Reminded me of some of the under the radar sci-fi shows of the past decade like Dark Matter and Killjoys. Maybe it won't reach that level but it can be fun.

I actually managed to get through the whole first episode before writing this review. Where to start? The SFX are super cheesy, stuck at early 90's CGI. The writing is the lowest level of simplicity, utilizing every cliche imaginable. The dialogue is cringeworthy, and I mean Babylon 5 cringeworthy (I love B5, but the dialogue there was some of the worst in TV history.). The acting is so awful, it is almost like they just grabbed some people off the street just to save some cash. When the entire plot can be fully communicated in an elevator pitch, you probably shouldn't green light the project. Hopefully, this dies a quick death, but I won't be around to see it.
Fire the Casting Director. The lead actress cannot act and lacks charisma and personality. The cast has zero chemistry. The men are either bumbling or incompetent or evil, but at least likable. The women are strong, smart, brave, but irritating. I don't mind cheesy or low-budget prosthetic makeup and special effects if the script is fun, campy and intriguing - this show is none of those things. Episode 1 will be my last.

Best premiere episode ever... to walk away. FX from 1990s, acting, dialogues even 70s. Old school but in the bad way.

It's like a collection of cringe moments :)
I don't mind the really bad CGI, costumes and so on but the main character is so not interesting. Empty characters and copy/paste elements from other movies or games. Really bad production with nothing original. AND it has that MTV cheap and PC show style which is really really awful.

This show isn't meant to be viewed as serious science fiction. It's a campy comedy with some cheesy-fun action tropes from the '80s thrown in. Entertaining, intriguing, and a nostalgic nod to old-school sifi shows.
There are no redeeming qualities to this show. The plot is horrible as is the acting, special effects, and characters. Apparently the show is supposed to be funny, but the jokes and one-liners are horrible. I've watched several episodes in hope that things would get better, but it's only gotten worse. The writers obviously don't even know what kind of show it's supposed to be. Drama, suspense, comedy? I haven't written a review of a TV show in many years, if ever, so considering that I created an account and wrote a review should give folks an idea of just how horrible it is.
I want to give this 10 stars, but the polish isn't quite there, but whatever it's fun, funny, and what oh wait, now I'm actually crying over characters I've just met, how did that happen The colors, the sass, the relentless throbbing soundtrack. If this doesn't become a cult favorite, memeing itself across the internet then the world is in trouble, well it's certainly in trouble anyway, but this is the kind of light we need to see us through these dark days.

I wanted to like this show when it was described to me as "Guardians of the Galaxy with a black female lead". Sadly, it's worse than a cheap 80's Saturday morning show and some of those were at least entertaining, which this is not.
I haven't been watching much on SyFy and have yet to see a new show on that channel that is any good. This is the station that canceled the excellent show, The Expanse, that was fortunately picked up by Amazon Prime.

Yep, it's got some serious cheese factor going on with this show. The CGI is... Not high end. The costumes are a bit elaborate, yet very low budget. And it works. If you like stuff like Spaceballs, this will be up your alley.
It's definitely a niche show with the cheese, but the premise is promising and the characters interesting. This one has some cool potential.
Ignore the haters, give it a try. You may just find something that gives you a spark of nerd-joy.

The best way I can describe it is Fifth Element (great movies) plus Farscape (my all time favorite anything) with a twist of what makes Thor Ragnorak good: that 80/color blast vibe. All of the bad reviews are right, but they come from a lens that is looking for a serious sci-fi show (the ones that inexplicably seem to get cancelled after two seasons) and somehow view this as a take on something else. No and no, this is unlike anything I've seen In almost 20 years. Vagrant Queen is over the top and doesn't take itself seriously at all. I liked the first episode within 10 minutes and am now looking forward to episode three. Do yourself a favor and watch the first episode. You'll know if this is your vibe by the end (and if you are open to this type of Sci-fi). And for the record, the "bad" effects remind me of when game went to cell shading: you knew it was computer generated but it was beautiful.

You can't fix stupid and this show is filled with it. I had high hopes, but it's just to corny. Being very generous with the rating of two.
Show just never showed any potential. Characters are lacking depth. And they insult your intelligence with their apparent stupidity.

For a new show this lacks of everything .. originality (Mission failed).. tried to be funny ( Not even once) Special effects (there's not even an effort) but above all ACTING .. I can overlook at all but PLEASE the acting should be the most important thing and is the worst ever. I'm a Sci-Fi fan and I was looking forward to this show ..At the END completely disappointed.
