I'm not really into romantic series (or so I thought) and though I do appreciate the effort that DR or other Danish television crews put into each new venture, a lot of Danish TV series end up falling a little flat for my taste. Not so here.
In my opinion, this series really excels on virtually every level. The casting is good, for a start. Really good actually, despite some actors apparently being relatively new to the game. The chemistry between the main characters is incredible. The scripting is equally good, with dialogue that genuinely seems just a spur of the moment in most cases and a lot of scenes where no words are even necessary to convey a message. The cinematography is also excellent and very aesthetically pleasing, though conforming with general nordic style/design. You find yourself hurled into events mid-action, but that makes them all the more relatable somehow, in the same way that real life can also take an unexpected turn in just a matter of seconds. The snappy format of under 25 minutes per episode is also a plus. This way, it doesn't feel like any screen time is ever wasted.
I suppose the actual story line is clichéd in some ways, as any good love story is, but I found myself being able to connect with the characters (especially Vitus) in a very profound way. Maybe that says more about me than about the series or its actors, but the wide mixture of emotions, ranging from social awkwardness, anger, desperation, sadness etc. to love, joy, lust and bliss was delivered in such a believable way, that every bit of it felt very real.
In summary: this series has really surpassed my expectations and I hope it gets translated into English (or subtitles get added), so that it can reach a wider audience, because the whole crew definitely deserves wider recognition, and who knows, it could even propel a few actors to stardom!
