While shooting the final scenes of the film featuring the giant whale skeleton, a rogue wave caught the crew off guard, crushing the structure and sending the pieces out to sea. The crew managed to recuperate much of the bones, but was forced to return home with an incomplete film. A year later, a Kickstarter campaign was launched, and 347 backers helped raise enough funds to repair the skeleton and allow the crew's return to the desolate coasts of Newfoundland to complete the film.
