The film tries to tackle the very complex problem of intersocial relationships, in a too simplistic manner. While the rich white family's only concerns are wealth and appearance, the poor black family is full of love and joy, even though they live in not so good conditions and work low paying jobs. All the family members and even the maid, fail to treat the lead character with dignity and respect, because of her emotional and behavioural disorder. In contrast, the black family treats her mostly as a normal human being. Aside from the couple in wich the plot revolves around, all other characters are one dimensional. Bland performances from actors capable of much more, like Beatriz Batarda, and Romeu Runa. Rita Cabaço carries the movie, with a performance that confirms her as one if the best portuguese actresses, of this generation.
