Brian Henson, the son of Jim Henson, returns as Sal Minella, a character he created for Muppets Tonight (1996) and has not performed since The Muppets' Wizard of Oz (2005), as he retired from puppeteering to focus on the business side of the Jim Henson Company.
Danny Trejo's fourth time working with The Muppets, after his deleted scene in The Muppets (2011) and his more prominent role in Muppets Most Wanted (2014), and the short lived series Muppets Now, in a cooking segment with the Swedish Chef. Three times he worked with the Muppets, he has portrayed a prisoner.
In past Muppet productions Gonzo & Rizzo the Rat have been featured as a duo which worked well for audiences. This will be the first time Gonzo is seen in a new partnership with Pepe the Prawn. The character of Rizzo the Rat was retired in 2018 after his only performer, Steve Whitmire, was fired by the Henson family amid controversy (as Whitmire also had voiced Kermit the Frog ever since Muppet creator Jim Henson's death in 1990). While characters like Rizzo (originated by Whitmire) were reduced or retired, the iconic part of Kermit the Frog was given to Matt Vogel, a longtime Muppeteer. Rizzo does have a brief, silent appearance dressed as a Poker dealer. Many viewers mistook a rat character credited as "Ballroom Rat" and portrayed by puppeteer Bruce Lanoil for Rizzo because the two have similar voices.
