I don't think it's right this film get such low ratings here. After having watched him in the rather disappointing "The Tracker" and "Hard Night Falling", the fairly entertaining "Castle Falls" and in a some supporting and bad guy roles in recent years, "Wanted Man" was exactly the Dolph Lundgren starring vehicle I was longing to see. I thought the films he made in the 2000s, like "The Mechanik" or "Direct Contact" were also good old school action movies, but this is the first more recent one I've seen that really felt like the classics that made him famous the late 80s and early 90s. I suppose this is because it was again shot in the American West, its production design was excellent, it didn't look low budget at all and the supporting cast consisted of talented actors, most of which have also made a name for themselves in the aforementioned era.
This is a movie that is made for viewers who, like me, grew up watching action films that starred larger than life figures like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger or Jean-Claude Van Damme and I for one think Dolph Lundgren succeeded brilliantly. Of course "Wanted Man" didn't have the budget of, say, "Joshua Tree" and since Dolph is older now, you can't expect him to perform that kind of over the top action anymore, but I actually felt like this improved the film and made it more realistic. Speaking of realism, the (often brutal) action scenes are accomplished through practical effects and there's no CGI that I could detect (or at least it didn't detract) and the film as a whole felt like it could have been made in the 80s or early 90s.
If you don't like these kinds of throwback old school productions and prefer your action movies to take place in the Marvel Universe, then please skip this and certainly don't review it on this website. "Wanted Man" is just right for the audience it was intended for and it's not fair it possibly get put off by a low score or negative reviews. As a fan, I for one, haven't enjoyed watching a Dolph Lundgren movie this much in a long time and am very grateful he made it.
