Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons has joined the cast of Apple TV+’s hit drama series for Season 4, the streaming service announced Tuesday.

Irons will play Martin Levy, the father of Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston). According to TVLine, the character is described as “a charming, sharp, deep-thinking man with a sense of humor. And, in what has probably not been super fun for Alex her entire life, Martin pulls no emotional punches.” In other words, a perfect role for Jeremy Irons. He is expected to appear in approximately six episodes of Season 4.

Irons is the second Academy Award winner recently added to the cast of “The Morning Show;” Marion Cotillard is joining the series as a French businesswoman named Celine Dumont. Before Irons was cast, it was reported Oscar winner Kevin Kline had been approached for the part as well.

David Leland, a director of stage and screen whose filmmaking CV includes films such as Wish You Were Here, Personal Services and Land Girls, has died. He was 82.

Born in 1941 in Cambridge, Leland initially trained as an actor at the Central Speech of School and Drama and had many stage credits before moving into direction at the Crucible Theatre. That began his collaboration with Alan Clarke in 1981. He wrote Made In Britain, which Clarke directed and featured the first screen role of Tim Roth. In 1986, Leland and director Neil Jordan co-wrote the screenplay for Mona Lisa, which starred Bob Hoskins.

Leland then wrote Personal Services, which was directed by Terry Jones and followed the true-life story of Cynthia Payne, who ran a private brothel.

Payne was also the subject of Leland's next film his directorial debut, Wish You Were Here, which chronicled her teenage years, starring Emily Lloyd.

The news came from his longtime agency Cassaroto Ramsay & Associates on Wednesday.

“Our beloved client writer/director, David Leland has passed away. We will miss his incredible talent and warm spirit so very much,” the agency said. “Our thoughts are with his family at this time.”

Leland, born in England at the height of World War II, trained as an actor and stage manager before establishing himself as a screenwriter and director. Among his most popular films are the 1983 cult classic “Made in Britain,” 1986’s Golden-Globe and Oscar-nominated “Mona Lisa” with Bob Hoskins and 1987’s “Wish You Were Here.”

Written by Alex Sarrigeorgiou, the Maine-set feature tells the story of a small town bartender called Lucy who agrees to model for painter Ilse – played by Ehle – who is existentially floundering as she seeks solitude away from her career and complicated personal life while on an artists retreat.

“Through their relationship, both women must confront their preconceptions of what makes a good life,” reads the logline.

If you cast your mind back to 2013, you might recall that Steven Spielberg was looking to bring another of Stanley Kubrick's unmade projects to screens following his work on A.I.. In this case, it was the deceased filmmaker's passion project Napoleon. Spielberg was envisioning a miniseries for HBO rather than a movie, and it appears that it's finally moving forward.

Napoleon is quite possibly the most famous unfinished film in Kubrick’s archive. He wrote the script in 1961 after ploughing months into research and gathering thousands upon thousands of location photos, slides and pages of notes about the idea.

But MGM and United Artists, which were to have produced the eventual film, refused due to the high cost and fears that big period war epics failed to make their budgets back. Kubrick held on to the idea, writing further drafts, but never managed to get it made. Alison Castle...

One of Stanley Kubrick’s lost projects, a large-scale biopic of Napoleon Bonaparte, has been in the works for HBO for the last seven years.

Steven Spielberg, who has been involved for at least ten years, now says he is “mounting a big production” and the project will become a seven-part series for the premium cable network.

It’s not clear whether the project is still in the development stages or has a series order.

Speaking at the Berlin Film Festival, The Fabelmans director said, “With the co-operation of Christiane Kubrick and Jan Harlan, we’re mounting a large production for HBO on based on Stanley’s original script Napoloeon. We are working on Napoleon as a seven-part limited series,” he said.

Irish producer James Flynn of Metropolitan Films, whose credits include the Bafta and Oscar-nominated The Banshees Of Inisherin, has died aged 57 following an illness.

Flynn founded production company Metropolitan Films in 1997 with his wife Juanita Wilson, and had credits through the company on titles including Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel and hit romantic comedies P.S. I Love You and Love Rosie.

There are thousands of shows and movies to watch on Netflix, but they don't all stick around forever. This is just one of those sad facts of life, made even sadder when the disappearance of a particular title takes you by surprise. If you're making your way through a TV show by watching one or two episodes a week, it's good to know ahead of time if the show will disappear from the streaming service's catalog, so at least you'll have the option of picking up the pace. 

Even if you prefer films to TV shows, it's nice to be reminded of your options before said options are taken away. From superhero blockbusters to intimate period dramas and everything in between, there are some real gems leaving Netflix this month. If you've been meaning to get around to any of these titles below, take advantage of the time they've got left.

Addams Family Values, The Borgias and the last two Rambo movies are among the high-profile titles set to leave Netflix later this month.

The 1993 Paramount movie sequel Addams Family Values departs the streamer on Jan. 31 as Netflix’s latest take on the Addams Family, the Jenna Ortega-starring hit series Wednesday, was recently renewed for a second season.

Showtime’s historical drama, The Borgias, which ran for three seasons, from 2011-2013, and starred Jeremy Irons as Pope Alexander VI, will also exit Netflix at the end of the month.

Even before these titles vanish, Netflix is losing Peter Bogdanovich’s star-studded screwball romance She’s Funny That Way. The film starring Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson, Imogen Poots, Rhys Ifans, Will Forte and Kathryn Hahn, among others, will leave Netflix on Jan. 29.

Netflix’s Vikings spinoff Vikings: Valhalla is returning for a second season, continuing the story of Leif Eriksson, Freydis Eriksdotter, and their allies and enemies across the North. We're still a few months away from the premiere of season 2 of the hit series "Yellowjackets," but there's still plenty to be excited about. Christina Ricci, who stars as the adult version of the criminally (and possibly) insane Misty Quigley, has already said the season will be even more shocking than the first. It's a big claim, especially when you consider the first season was an introduction to a high school soccer team who may or may not have eaten one another in acts of ritualistic sacrifice.

It’s last call for a handful of films and TV shows leaving Netflix in January 2023. If you didn’t get your Thanksgiving rewatch of “Addams Family Values” in, now’s the time – the superior sequel departs the streaming service on Jan. 31.

Also leaving is the Danny Boyle-directed, Aaron Sorkin-scripted drama “Steve Jobs,” an underrated gem of a film and wholly unique twist on the biopic with Michael Fassbender filling the titular role. The last day to stream this one is Jan. 14.

Ronan Vibert, a staple of British television, has died aged 58.

The actor – best known for his role in Saving Mr Banks – died on Thursday (22 December) in a Florida hospital.

His manager Sharon Vitro told The Hollywood Reporter that Vibert had contracted a brief illness, although no more details were given.

Born in Cambridge in 1964 then spending his childhood in South Wales, Vibert studied at the esteemed drama school Rada, from which he graduated in 1985.

Four years later, he made his screen debut in the award-winning TV series Traffik. From then on, Vibert had a long and consistent career across television, film, theatre and radio.

Some of his biggest TV appearances were in The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Borgias, Hatfieldsand McCoys, Penny Dreadful and NCIS LA.

On the big screen, he appeared in Shadow of the Vampire, The Pianist, and Saving Mr Banks, in which he played Pl Travers’ (Emma Thompson) publisher Diarmuid Russell.
