I have always been a fan of G3 My Little Pony compared to the bronies out there. When I saw that this was the last entry in my childhood generation I nearly tore up. Seeing the mixed reviews that others wrote for this movie made me tear up even more. But when I finally watched the movie, it almost immediately became my favorite movie in the entire franchise. And I wasn't even the right age for it.
The storyline is basically a "something happens before Christmas and the heroes have to save the day" plot; I've seen it done before, but this movie executed it beautifully. All seven of the protagonists - Pinkie Pie, Scootaloo, Toola Roola, Rainbow Dash and Cheerilee the Earth ponies, and Sweetie Belle the unicorn and Starsong the Pegasus - have their share of cute and heartwarming moments throughout the movie, and they were enough to make me smile and feel happy.
The songs were really catchy, but my favorite of all was the My Little Pony theme song at the beginning of the movie. Had this generation lasted long enough to warrant a TV show, I can definitely see it becoming the intro music. The voice acting was really good, too, and I thought it was almost amusing that two of the voice actresses from the upcoming generation Friendship is Magic - Tabitha St. Germain and Andrea Libman - agreed to volunteer for this movie.
I was really concerned when Twinkle Wish got captured by Whimsy the dragon. I actually thought she was going to harm her, or deliberately hide her so the festival couldn't happen. But when I found out she was just as friendly and playful as everybody else in the movie, I breathed a sigh of relief. The fact that she was able to return her to the festival and join everybody in the fun made me shed some tears of joy.
Above all, I think My Little Pony: Twinkle Wish Adventure is an absolutely perfect way for the third generation of My Little Pony to say goodbye to its fans, both old and new. I'd especially recommend watching it on Christmas Eve or Day, since even though Christmas isn't explicitly mentioned in the movie, I can't help but think that Christmas takes place right after the Winter Wishes Festival at the end. If you're not into cute stuff like this, I don't think you should watch this, but if ever there was a "Cutest Movie of 2009" award, this movie would win it, no doubt about it.
I'm going to miss you, G3 My Little Pony. I sincerely thank you for all of the wonderful, magical and absolutely adorable memories that you shared with the world. You will always be better than My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in my honest opinion, no matter how many equally cute moments that next generation will bring. Goodbye. <3
