Peacock has given a straight-to-series order to the female-led crime thriller “M.I.A.,” Variety has learned.

The series, which is set in South Florida, hails from writer Bill Dubuque, who previously co-created the Emmy-winning Netflix series “Ozark.” The official logline for the series states:

“Running drugs is a family affair for Etta Tiger Jonze, but when her family is slaughtered before her eyes, Etta sets out to exact justice on those responsible – avenging her blood family while she builds her chosen family, igniting her series journey from powerless orphan to South Florida’s most powerful criminal Queenpin.”

Karen Campbell will serve as executive producer and showrunner on “M.I.A.” Stefano Sollima will direct and executive produce. MRC will produce.

Netflix has ordered the psychological thriller limited series “His & Hers” with Tessa Thompson set for the lead role, Variety has learned.

The streamer has given the series a six-episode order. It is based on the Alice Feeney novel of the same name. William Oldroyd and “Ozark” co-creator Bill Dubuque serve as writers and executive producers on the series, with Oldroyd also set to direct the first episode.

The official description of the series states, “Set in the sweltering heat of Atlanta, Anna (Thompson) lives in haunting reclusivity, fading away from her friends and career as a journalist. But when she overhears about a murder in Dahlonega – the sleepy town where she grew up – Anna is snapped back to life, pouncing on the case and searching for answers. Laika’s CEO and President Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) is gearing up to direct the stop-motion animated feature The Night Gardener, written by Ozark co-creator Bill Dubuque, for his storied Hillsboro, Oregon studio. (Check out a film still unveiled by Laika below.)

News of the new Laika film comes with the studio currently in production on Wildwood, the first film set in its hometown of Portland, Oregon. Knight is directing the animated film, based on the bestselling fantasy novel written by Colin Meloy—the multi-hyphenate best known as the lead singer and songwriter for the rock group The Decemberists.

Exclusive: ABC comedy pilot The Son In Law has found its father-in-law. Anupam Kher, who has starred in such series as NBC’s New Amsterdam and the Amazon film The Big Sick, has been cast as one of the leads alongside Reema Sampat, Chris Sullivan and Meera Simhan.

The Son In Law, a single-camera pilot from 20th Television, is written and executive produced by Ajay Sahgal and executive produced by Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar. Kristin Kreuk, Marc Bendavid Willie C. Carpenter, Currie Graham (Murder in the First), Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows) and Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in Space) have joined the Season 1 cast of Amazon’s upcoming original series Reacher, based on the Jack Reacher character from Lee Child’s international bestselling books.

Alan Ritchson stars as the title character in the series, produced by Amazon Studios, Skydance Television and Paramount Television Studios. The first season, written, exec produced and showrun by Nick Santora, is based on the first Jack Reacher novel, The Killing Floor, which is set in Georgia.

Bendavid plays Hubble, a frazzled accountant living a grander life than he can afford and gets caught up in a business he would never remotely consider. Hubble loves his family and will do whatever’s necessary to protect them.

"Maybe we can talk about something else?" Mill Creek Entertainment has revealed a new official US trailer for the indie film Last Call, a small drama from filmmaker Gavin Michael Booth. This premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2019, and also played at the Dances With Films Festival. It tells the tale of a bitterly alone man, Scott, who calls the suicide prevention hotline, but accidentally calls Beth, a janitor. Last Call is a split screen real-time feature film. The entire movie is comprised of two single-take shots, merged together and without cuts as the film plays out with two camera crews in different parts of a city as we follow each character. The score for the film was also composed and recorded in real-time by Adrian Ellis to add to the ephemeral aesthetic. This innovative, gripping cinematic feat is anchored by two incredible performances by Sarah Booth & Daved Wilkins.

After an award winning festival run and limited theatrical release last fall, Last Call will now come to home audiences February 23rd. Check out the trailer:

“Last Call” is a movie about a man in need of an intervention. Not David, who misdials the suicide hotline and gets a janitor named Beth — who’s working late at the local community college — instead, but director Gavin Michael Booth, who has fallen for the fad of shooting an entire feature in a single take — or a double take, in this case. Booth films both sides of this high-stakes phone conversation simultaneously, then crowds them into the same frame, so audiences can watch this miserable melodrama play out in real time.

Someone should step in and stop inexperienced directors from pulling this sort of stunt, especially when masked as some kind of statement, the way Booth does. I don’t mean to trivialize suicide by suggesting that “Last Call” doesn’t take the subject seriously. It’s just that Booth has chosen a technique that calls attention to itself...

Production on the second season of Shudder's hit anthology series Creepshow is officially underway, the streaming network has announced.

This is good news for fans of the show, which has a six-episode sophomore run in the works, and it is currently set to debut in 2021.

The anthology series, which broke all Shudder records when it debuted last October, is executive produced by showrunner Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead) and based on George A. Romero’s iconic 1982 movie.

“I’ve never been happier to get behind the camera as I am today. After missing our shoot date in March by just over 48 hours, season 2 of Creepshow hits the ground running as cameras begin to roll," said Nicotero in a press release.

The Creepshow must go on — even amid a pandemic — and thus the Shudder streaming service’s anthology series on Thursday commenced production on Season 2 in Atlanta.

Executive-produced by showrunner Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead) and based on George A. Romero’s iconic 1982 movie, the six-episode sophomore run is on track for a 2021 premiere.

“I’ve never been happier to get behind the camera as I am today,” Nicotero said in a statement issued as production resumed.

AMC Networks’ Shudder has begun production on season 2 of its hit horror anthology series Creepshow in Atlanta, Ga. Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), Adam Pally (The Mindy Project), Josh McDermitt (The Walking Dead), Keith David (The Thing) and Ashley Laurence (Hellraiser) have joined the cast of the six-episode second season which will premiere exclusively on Shudder in 2021.

The anthology series, which shattered Shudder records when it debuted last October, is executive produced by showrunner Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead) and based on George A. Romero’s iconic 1982 movie.

Shudder also revealed initial details about four of this season’s segments, which will be directed by Nicotero. Camp and Pally will star in “Shapeshifters Anonymous” Parts 1 and 2, written by Nicotero, based on a short story by J.A. Konrath (Last Call) about an unlucky soul who finds himself in need of a werewolf support group; McDermitt, Laurence and David will star in “Pesticide,...

Showrun by Lucía Puenzo and produced by Fremantle and Fabula, “Señorita México” (“Miss Mexico”) has added two writers, María Renée Prudencio and Tatiana Merenuk, as it advances towards production, which is scheduled for the first half of 2021.

The new series will be produced for Starzplay and Pantaya in Latin America and Spain, in a deal brokered by Fremantle’s international distribution arm, Fremantle and Fabula confirmed Tuesday, as they also unveiled more details of one of Latin America’s banner productions for 2021, which will be the first at Fabula’s new Mexican production beach-head.

Star of Fernando Eimbke’s “Club Sandwich,” actress-writer Mexico-based Prudencio scooped a Mexican Academy Ariel for co-adapting ensemble comedy “Last Call,” which also won its female cast a collective prize at the Guadalajara Festival. Her second major movie screenplay, for Natalia Beristain’s “The Eternal Feminine,” exhibited a distinctive female sensibility in its portrait of Mexican writer Rosario Castellanos.
