When author Lee Child created Jack Reacher, he didn't make things too complicated for himself. The ex-military policeman is known for not talking much, traveling from town to town, and being really big. Oh, and he's really good at fighting. And it turns out that's all you really need to create a massively popular character. The Jack Reacher novels are big enough to have spawned two Tom Cruise-led movies and a record-setting Amazon Prime Video series.
In the streaming sphere, "Reacher" has thus far proven as popular as the books, with fans finally getting a version of their beloved bruiser that looks like the guy from the novels. That was important to Child, who made clear early on that the 5-foot 7-inch Tom Cruise would not be returning as Jack Reacher, mainly because he's too small. And after a protracted audition process, the 6-foot 2-inch Alan Ritchson was brought...

News of the new Laika film comes with the studio currently in production on Wildwood, the first film set in its hometown of Portland, Oregon. Knight is directing the animated film, based on the bestselling fantasy novel written by Colin Meloy—the multi-hyphenate best known as the lead singer and songwriter for the rock group The Decemberists.

"Maybe we can talk about something else?" Mill Creek Entertainment has revealed a new official US trailer for the indie film Last Call, a small drama from filmmaker Gavin Michael Booth. This premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2019, and also played at the Dances With Films Festival. It tells the tale of a bitterly alone man, Scott, who calls the suicide prevention hotline, but accidentally calls Beth, a janitor. Last Call is a split screen real-time feature film. The entire movie is comprised of two single-take shots, merged together and without cuts as the film plays out with two camera crews in different parts of a city as we follow each character. The score for the film was also composed and recorded in real-time by Adrian Ellis to add to the ephemeral aesthetic. This innovative, gripping cinematic feat is anchored by two incredible performances by Sarah Booth & Daved Wilkins.

“A Little Late With Lilly Singh” will have a whole new look for Season 2 — and a new writing staff, including Chelsea Davison as head writer. She replaces Sean O’Connor.
Staff writers for Season 2 are Vannessa Jackson, Sabeeh Jameel, Romen Borsellino, Nimesh Patel, Neuli Handa and Natasha Vaynblat. Neil Punsalan is showrunner.
They’re all new — the only carryover writers from Season 1 to Season 2 are Singh and Davison.
The second season of the (very) late-night show will be relocated to “a Los Angeles-based house,” NBC said on Tuesday.

As states and cities start new stay-at-home orders — specifically Los Angeles county — it is only expected that box office will continue to struggle. This applies even more to the specialty box office.
This weekend we saw a trio of films about iconic figures in cultural history: the Gabriel Range-directed Stardust showed us the early evolution of David Bowie; Steven Bernstein’s Last Call put the spotlight on poet Dylan Thomas; and Alex Winter’s Zappa took a look at the experimental, trailblazing musician. All received theatrical releases, but the sobering figures reflected the number of people who are actually going to theaters during the pandemic.
IFC Films set a day and date release of Stardust with 44 runs in 25 markets. Of these, 70% of the runs were under $100 for Friday and Saturday combined. It was the same story for K Street Pictures’ Last Call which opened in 17 runs in seven markets.

These are the words of Peacock’s EVP, comedy development Dan Shear, a man who was instrumental in bringing Larry Wilmore back to the medium for his eponymous show and promoting Amber Ruffin from Late Night with Seth Meyers writer to star of her own show.
This week, we ask whether late-night is a timeslot or a tone, talk to The Late Late Show co-head writers Ian Karmel and Lauren Greenberg about crafting gags and sketches for James Corden and look at the weirdest and most wonderful clips of the week.

In our Q&a series Last Call, we get down to the bottom of every last thing with some of our favorite celebs – from the last thing they texted to the last thing they binge-watched. This week, actor and singer Jordan Fisher takes our call.
Ever since Jordan Fisher stepped onto the scene with Disney Channel shows and movies like Liv and Maddie and Teen Beach Movie, we've been obsessed. Since then, the 26-year-old has captivated audiences with his smooth moves on Dancing With the Stars, his beautiful voice on Fox's Grease: Live and Rent: Live, and his swoon-worthy acting in Netflix films like To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You and Work It. Yep, Jordan really is a triple threat.

In our Q&a series Last Call, we get down to the bottom of every last thing with some of our favorite celebs - from the last thing they texted to the last thing they binge-watched. This week, Mexican singer Sofía Reyes takes our call.
While most of us were staying home the past few months binge-watching new TV shows or baking bread, Mexican singer-songwriter Sofía Reyes has been hard at work, recording not one but two new songs: "Cuando Estás Tu," which she released back in June, and her latest single, "Échalo Pa'Ca." To celebrate her new music, we chatted with Sofía about recording the tracks, the last piece of advice that changed her life, and more!
What was the last day recording "Échalo Pa'Ca" like?
I mean, recording the song took a couple months because I was waiting for Lalo [Ebratt] and Darell to record their vocals, and I couldn't be more excited!

If you've watched Netflix's creepy-yet-addicting series You, then you definitely became a fan of Jenna Ortega in her breakout role as Ellie Alvez on the hit show's second season (fingers crossed we get more Ellie in season three). Before working alongside Penn Badgley's terrifying Joe, she starred on everything from Disney Channel's Stuck in the Middle to Jane the Virgin.
Now, she's back on Netflix in the new animated series Jurassic Park: Camp Cretaceous, starring as one of six teens chosen for the trip of a lifetime to a new adventure camp across from Isla Nubar. However, she soon discovers dinosaurs have wreaked havoc across the island.

“Last Call” is a movie about a man in need of an intervention. Not David, who misdials the suicide hotline and gets a janitor named Beth — who’s working late at the local community college — instead, but director Gavin Michael Booth, who has fallen for the fad of shooting an entire feature in a single take — or a double take, in this case. Booth films both sides of this high-stakes phone conversation simultaneously, then crowds them into the same frame, so audiences can watch this miserable melodrama play out in real time.
Someone should step in and stop inexperienced directors from pulling this sort of stunt, especially when masked as some kind of statement, the way Booth does. I don’t mean to trivialize suicide by suggesting that “Last Call” doesn’t take the subject seriously. It’s just that Booth has chosen a technique that calls attention to itself...

Where the hell do I even start with this review… I am sat here, about an hour after having watched Last Call. It took me about an hour to just relax myself, chill my nerves, remove my heart from my throat, for the goosepimples to die down and the hairs on the back of my neck to settle. Yes, Last Call took me down a path I am not overly sure I was ready for. A little while back I went to the cinema to see Joker, a movie that I have not been able to watch since, due to some of the content and how it hit way too close to home. Last Call didn’t hit me in the same place but my god did it hit me!

Showrun by Lucía Puenzo and produced by Fremantle and Fabula, “Señorita México” (“Miss Mexico”) has added two writers, María Renée Prudencio and Tatiana Merenuk, as it advances towards production, which is scheduled for the first half of 2021.
The new series will be produced for Starzplay and Pantaya in Latin America and Spain, in a deal brokered by Fremantle’s international distribution arm, Fremantle and Fabula confirmed Tuesday, as they also unveiled more details of one of Latin America’s banner productions for 2021, which will be the first at Fabula’s new Mexican production beach-head.
Star of Fernando Eimbke’s “Club Sandwich,” actress-writer Mexico-based Prudencio scooped a Mexican Academy Ariel for co-adapting ensemble comedy “Last Call,” which also won its female cast a collective prize at the Guadalajara Festival.
