You know you’ve made it as an actor when you can pick and choose your projects. As an indication of her status, Anne Hathaway only felt the need to do one movie this year, The Intern, alongside Robert De Niro, which has just been hit cinemas. And it doesn’t look like a short-term go-slow either: her upcoming slate includes just two movies – Alice Through The Looking Glass, in 2016, and The Burning Woman a year later.
That’s certainly not a bad position to be in, and shows how far Hathaway has come in a relatively short space of time since arriving on screen as fresh-faced royalty in The Princess Diaries, and now she can lay claim to being an Oscar winner, and a star of two billion dollar movies. Nothing to be sniffed at that. No wonder she doesn’t feel the need to work very often.

If you’ve read my Top 10 Movies of 2014 list, you’ll know I proclaimed the vast amount of really good movies released this year but for all the good movies, there has to be some bad… And the bad were Really bad this year. From unfunny comedies to weird vanity projects that were seemingly made just for friends and family of the film makers attached, to some truly awful horror movies it seems that 2014 will be marked by some truly terrible films – some of which made it to the big screen!
The criteria is the same as my “best of” list: it has to be a movie I’ve seen this year, one that was released this year, i.e. making its UK debut, or a new movie that I’ve seen at a film festival that might not necessarily have been distributed as of yet. Also, the cut off...

Stoner comedy Don Peyote tells the story Warren Allman, an unemployed graphic novelist who finally finds a purpose in life after an unpleasant encounter with a homeless man preaching the end is near. Fueled by vivid apocalyptic dreams, Warren becomes obsessed with 2012 doomsday theories and decides to make a documentary on the subject while his fiance is busy planning their wedding.
Seemingly a labour of love for co-writer, co-director and star Dan Fogler, Don Peyote plays out like a wannabe Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, only without any of the style and visual flare of Terry Gilliam. I can certainly see why Fogler would want to produce such a movie – after all the majority of his most famous roles see him playing...

For the sake of full disclosure, I would like to begin by declaring that I am not now, nor have I ever been, a participant of the pot smoking culture. Why am I declaring this, you may ask? Simple. This movie is, essentially, all about smoking pot. Wonderful. Another Dazed & Confused you say? Wrong. With that said, Don Peyote is also much more, but the weed certainly plays a major role.
Please, do not misinterpret my opening remarks. I hold no personal or political grudge against anyone for partaking in this extra-curricular activity. I only bring it up to make a point, as indulging in the great green pastime may certainly influence how the film is experienced. So, as you read this review, keep in mind these are merely the opinions of a critic who was not under the influence during the viewing.

Dan Fogler is best known to big screen audiences for his work in a string of comedies like “School of Scoundrels,” “Good Luck Chuck,” “Balls of Fury,” “Fanboys” and “Take Me Home Tonight,” most often as the voluble best friend or a disrupter of normalcy. Of course, he’s also won a Tony Award for his performance as William Barfee in “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” and last year he helped anchor, alongside Josh Duhamel, the indie film “Scenic Route,” a spare, streamlined psychological thriller that doubled as a study in masculine relationship drift. Now, with the psychedelic comedy “Don Peyote,” Fogler has added another feather to his cap. A rollicking, ramshackle [ Read More ]

Here are some things that happen in Don Peyote: A badly animated CG tidal wave engulfs downtown Manhattan. Anne Hathaway performs martial arts in patent-leather pants. An elaborate midday orgy is interrupted by a murder-suicide. Speed Levitch hotboxes a mental asylum's supply closet. Abel Ferrara curses out a fare as a cabbie in a fur-lined trapper hat. The hero of the picture, Warren Allman (Dan Fogler), launches spontaneously into the choreographed song and dance of a full-blown musical number -- twice. It's hardly unusual for a film to feature dream sequences.
Don Peyote takes the convention one step further: The film is nothing but dreams. Or perhaps hallucinations. Fogler, who co-wrote and co-directed over the course of several years with Michael Canzoniero, f...

I’ll say this for Dan Fogler’s “Don Peyote”—its title might be the finest play on “Quixote” in cinema history. (Sorry, 2007’s “Donkey Xote.”) Unfortunately, a pun-tastic title does not guarantee a winning film, as the makers of “R.I.P.D.” can attest. As star, co-writer, and co-director of “Don Peyote,” Fogler deserves credit for the sheer ambition involved in this oddball story of a stoner’s awakening. The likable actor who took home a Tony for Broadway’s “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” and has starred in a strange mix of comedies that includes everything from “Balls of Fury” to “Taking Woodstock” also called in a shockingly eclectic bunch for cameo roles: Anne Hathaway, Josh Duhamel, Topher Grace, Jay Baruchel, Wallace Shawn, Annabella Sciorra and Abel Ferrara (huh?!). But the result is an amateurish mess without a single laugh. Not. One. Laugh. That is no exaggeration.

Dan Fogler (“Kung Fu Panda,” “Hannibal,” “Man Up”) has been on the outskirts of the scene for some time now, but his new film, “Don Peyote” is pushing him into the limelight. Fogler tells the story of an unemployed stoner who becomes obsessed with 2012 doomsday theories with the help of cast mates Anne Hathaway, Jay Baruchel, and Josh Duhamel. He tells Backstage of his experience making the film. I approached making “Don Peyote” as an actor first. I wanted to make something where I could flex some creative muscle, and show more of the spectrum of my abilities. Playing a party animal/nerd is fun, but, the real message here is you have to create parts for yourself if the parts you want to play aren’t out there or coming to you. Period. And anyone can be a moviemaker, nowadays, when you have a camera in your phone. I will admit,...

To celebrate the upcoming release of Dan Fogler’s new film, Don Peyote, we have an exclusive clip to share with you today. The stoner road trip comedy has been described as a “delusional, hallucinogenic journey into the mind of an apocalypse obsessed lunatic” by our very own Matt Donato in his review. If that sounds like something that might appeal to you, then you might want to check out the scene shown in the clip below.
As you can see, we’re treated to a bizarre musical number that takes place while Fogler’s Warren is on a bit of a peyote trip. It’s every bit as strange and out there as you’d expect from a movie like this and it definitely gives us a good idea of the kind of ride that we’re in for when Don Peyote hits VOD/iTunes this Friday.

Don Peyote is about one man’s psychedelic obsession, fueled by drug-influenced apocalyptic dreams and trippy interviews with conspiracy theorists – in other words, I wasn’t nearly high enough while watching this mishmash of ideas and horrors. Seriously, I’ve never felt more mindf#cked after credits rolled than I did trying to assemble what little coherence existed while telling the story of legendary peacemaker Don Peyote. As it stands, Dan Fogler has created a stoner road trip comedy that meanders scene to scene, parading an impressive amount of celebrity cameos through a hazy mist created by every drug cocktail known to man. Don Peyote feels like a scholarly acid trip mixed with every paranoid druggie’s worst nightmare, but plays like a story your local weed dealer stumbles through helplessly while you try and force him out of your house.
Warren (Dan Fogler) has it all, yet simultaneously has nothing.

Always proud to show off her work, Anne Hathaway was in attendance for a special screening of "Rio 2" on Saturday (April 26) in Burbank, CA.
Beautiful in black, the voice of Jewel the parrot strolled the red carpet with a smile at the event, which was held as part of the Lollipop Network's Night Under the Stars.
In career news, Anne will soon be both heard and seen on the big screen in the comedy "Don Peyote."
Slated to hit theaters later this year, the film is described as follows: "Don Peyote" tells the story Warren Allman, an unemployed stoner who finally finds a purpose in life after an unpleasant encounter with a homeless man preaching the end is near.

"One of these days I'm going to come back, and I'm going to save you... if you're lucky." The first trailer has arrived for an indie comedy called Don Peyote, written & directed by Michael Canzoniero & Dan Fogler, which is some kind of crazy, wacky, drug-trip dramedy starring Fogler as Warren Allman, an "unemployed stoner who finally finds a purpose in life" after a run in with a homeless man that gives him some kind of power, it looks like. The supporting cast is promising: Anne Hathaway, Jay Baruchel, Josh Duhamel, Topher Grace and Wallace Shawn. Doesn't look too bad, but I'm still unsure about Fogler in a lead role. Coming off the back of warm early reviews for Song One out of Sundance, Anne Hathaway is already eyeing potential projects to follow it up, and now she’s in talks to replace Reese Witherspoon in Nancy Meyer’s The Intern.
The workplace comedy already has Robert De Niro on board, with Warner Bros. acquiring the North American rights at the Afm late last year.
The Intern tells of an owner of an Internet company who gets assigned an intern who’s a retiree (De Niro). He becomes a valuable resource and the two develop a relationship.
Hathaway would be taking the lead as the owner of the Internet company.
Witherspoon was on board to star in the lead when it sold at the Afm, but left the project half-way through last month, believed to be due to scheduling conflicts.
The Oscar-winning Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men, The Social Network) is producing.

This is the first trailer of Dan Fogler's crazy looking indie comedy Don Peyote. This film just seems insanely out there, but it's got a great cast that includes Anne Hathaway, Jay Baruchel, Dean Winters, Josh Duhamel, Daniel Pinchbeck, Yang Miller, and more.
The story follows "a man's decent into perceived madness as he goes on a journey to unravel the fabric of status-quo society. Fogler's leading character, Warren Allman, dives deep down the rabbit hole of conspiracy theories, secret societies, and counter culture to try and figure out what’s really happening in our world and who is pulling the strings."
This looks like one of those really weird movies that I'm going to enjoy watching. There's no doubt they had fun making it. Check out the psychedelic trailer below!

Tony winner Dan Fogler plays an ordinary man who goes a little crazy in the film Don Peyote. Fogler, who co-wrote and directed the film with Michael Canzoniero, stars alongside Anne Hathaway, Josh Duhamel, and Topher Grace, among others. If the trailer below is any indication, the movie is going to be one freaky trip.
Forgler plays Warren Allman, a typical oblivious everyman who is sent on an existential path of enlightenment. Warren is transformed into the shaman/prophet Don Peyote and sheds light on alternative lifestyles that work but have been buried by the decision makers to the detriment of our civilization.

The last year in movies was pretty good to mind-altering drugs, what with Sebastián Silva.s Crystal Fairy and Ben Wheatley.s A Field in England offering up some of the trippiest sequences of the year. And 2014 is lifting off to good heights with the upcoming comedy Don Peyote from Dan Fogler and Michael Canzoniero, who both co-wrote and co-directed the feature. I.m admittedly not a big fan of Fogler.s, as he tends to star in lackluster movies, but this is apparently something of a passion project written specifically to showcase his talents as an actor. If that involves some insanely over the top sequences involving giant waves and mental asylum fake-outs, then I.m definitely committing myself. This is the kind of trailer (which comes to us via Yahoo! Movies) that you have to take a step back from after watching, only to put it on ...

After taking parts in studio fare like Kung Fu Panda, Take Me Home Tonight, Love Happens and Fanboys, funnyman Dan Fogler has been more low key in indie releases like Hellbenders and Scenic Route. Now he's back with another indie, but this one he co-wrote and directs. Don Peyote stars Fogler as Warren Allman, a man who takes a steep descent into madness as he attempts to unravel the fabric of status-quo society. What's cool is that Fogler got friends and previous co-stars like Anne Hathaway, Jay Baruchel, Topher Grace and Josh Duhamel to pop up, and you can see them in the first trailer. Watch it below! Here's the first trailer for Dan Fogler's Don Peyote, originally from Yahoo: Don Peyote is directed by Dan Fogler (star of Take Me Home Tonight, Fanboys, Scenic Route) who co-wrote the script with Michael Canzoniero (Wedding Bros.) Well, we'll give co-writer/director Dan Fogler credit for this: he certainly knows how to work a Rolodex. Ordinarily, we probably wouldn't pay a movie titled "Don Peyote" much mind, but when it manages to rope in a rather oddball assortment of people for cameo roles, well, we gave more time out of day than we otherwise would have. The trailer for the low-budget comedy is here and the appearances by faces more famous than Fogler's are more memorable than anything else, as we're still not sure what it's about. Variety says it's about "an unemployed stoner who finally finds a purpose in life after an unpleasant encounter with a homeless man preaching the end is near. Fueled by vivid apocalyptic dreams, he becomes obsessed with doomsday theories and decides to make a documentary on the subject while his fiance is busy planning their wedding." In the trippy new trailer for indie comedy "Don Peyote," it's hard to tell what is fake and what is real, a distinction that's severely messing with the mind of the movie's protagonist.
Dan Fogler stars as Warren, a man leading a seemingly-normal life when a chance encounter with a homeless man leads him down the rabbit hole of sanity.
"Warren was an ordinary person," the trailer's narration begins, and viewers soon learn that the emphasis is on "was." We see him hallucinate tidal waves and epic fight sequences, jumping in and out of different realities until it's unclear just what on screen can be believed. Warren's searching for the truth about existence itself (he wants to make a documentary "that's going to save the world," he tells one friend), but he's also looking for the truth about his own existence, too.
"Take a good look, a**holes," Warren tells the camera at one point.

Anne Hathaway went for a jog while wearing a bikini top during her vacation in Hawaii on Tuesday. The Oscar-winning actress skipped the award season hubbub this year to take a trip to the islands with her husband, Adam Shulman. In addition to her two-piece run, Anne and Adam also hiked near a flooded road and visited a taco truck for lunch, all while wearing their swimsuits. Anne took her postholiday break after finishing a string of movies, including Song One, Don Peyote, and Interstellar alongside fellow award season favorites, Matthew McConaughey and Jessica Chastain. While Anne isn't up for any awards this time around (all of her new projects will be released later this year) she might still make a stop by the Oscars on March 2 as typically last year's winners will present the awards for the major actor categories. Two weeks ago I posted the first part of my most recent interview with Dan Fogler, which you can check out right Here. In that video, we mostly talked about his graphic novel Moon Lake which is available now for anyone looking for a last minute Christmas gift. I promised there was more and I wasn’t kidding. After going through 40+ minutes of footage, here is part 2 in which I chat with Fogler about several upcoming projects including Don Peyote, Kyle Newman’s Barely Lethal & his hope for a Fanboys 2.
As you may remember from previous articles, Don Peyote is Fogler’s second film behind the camera and stars himself along with a ton of great celebrity cameos including Anne Hathaway, Josh Duhamel, Topher Grace, and Jay Baruchel. Having seen a nearly finished cut of this psychotic acid trip of a film, I cannot wait for it to be unleashed upon the world.

Shockingly, I arrived for my second day at Nycc with enough time to walk around the convention a bit before my first & only scheduled interview for the weekend. I didn’t mention it in yesterday’s coverage because I wanted it to be a surprise but one of the reasons I headed home early after Nycc yesterday was to watch The Bay. Why did I need to see this flick you may ask? Because my roundtable today was with the legendary Barry Levinson, director of The Bay as well as some other flicks you might have heard of like Rain Man, Diner, and Sphere. Speaking with him was an incredible experience and I will have a full recap of the roundtable posted soon.
At the roundtable I ran into Mike Spring of DVDSnapshot.com, who I first met at the convention a few years back. We chatted for a bit...

Sibling filmmakers Kevin and Michael Goetz continued prep work on their Scenic Route and Deadline reported today on comic actor Dan Fogler and Transformers leading man Josh Duhamel joining the film as two college buddies who set out on a road trip and become stuck in the desert with a dwindling chance at being rescued. Kyle Killen, writer and executive producer on the upcoming NBC drama Awake starring Jason Isaacs as a police detective living parallel lives, wrote Scenic Route with Luke Rivett of Anonymous Content and Paul Jensen and Brion Hambel of Best Medicine Productions producing. Fogler, last seen in the Relativity comedy Take Me Home Tonight, recently joined the ABC comedy pilot Prairie Dogs with Kal Penn. 18 months ago Dan Fogler broke the news to us about his new film Don Peyote. 6 months ago he gave us a little update. Last week I finally got to see it. Well, most of it. The film is currently unfinished with 10 shooting days left and a handful of special effects that need to be added. For obvious reasons, this should not be considered a review of the film.
