With its list of new releases for June 2024, Disney+ isn’t going to beat the “only a Star Wars and Marvel streamer” allegations. That’s because there is just one major new release and it’s of the Star Wars variety.

Thankfully, Star Wars: The Acolyte, premiering on June 4, sounds pretty good! This series from Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) is set during the end of the High Republic era and will follow a respected Jedi master (played by Squid Game‘s Lee Jung-jae) investigating a crime that brings him back into contact with his former Padawan (Amandla Stenberg).

Aside from that, Disney+ has little else going on this month. But a fresh Star War and more episodes of Doctor Who should be enough for most of us.

Disney+ will premiere the first new live-action Star Wars since 2023’s middling to “The Mandalorian” Season 3 and “Ahsoka” with “The Acolyte,” starring “Squid Game” breakout Lee Jung-jae. The series is set before the events of “The Phantom Menace” with a familiar master-padawan storyline but new characters and a new era where that dynamic unfolds. The streamer will also premiere various new options for kids and family-friendly programming, as well as new episodes of “Doctor Who” starring Ncuti Gatwa.

Disney Branded Television has greenlit a fourth entry in the “Zombies” movie franchise.

The announcement was made at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. Meg Donnelly and Milo Manheim set to reprise their roles as Addison and Zed, with both stars also set to executive produce. Production will begin in March in New Zealand.

The official description of the fourth film states “The franchise’s fourth installment follows Zed and Addison as they embark on a road trip the summer after their first year of college. As adventures unfold, they unexpectedly discover the warring worlds of Sunnyside and Shadyside and come into contact with two new groups of monsters.”

The fourth film has received the green light, currently under the working title Zombies 4, Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television, announced Saturday during Disney’s 2024 Television Critics Association winter press tour.

Not only that, but the franchise is expanding with Zombies: The Re-Animated Series — the first ever animated series for this franchise. That’ll debut on Disney Channel and Disney+ this summer.

Production on Zombies 4 is set to begin in New Zealand in March. Meg Donnelly and Milo Manheim are reprising their roles as Addison and Zed, Seabrook’s star-crossed zombie/cheerleader couple. They will also executive produce.
