Unveiling a raft of international shows at Mipcom, Newen Connect’s managing director Rodolphe Buet said the distribution arm of the TF1-owned company is seeing its business model go through “drastic changes” as it now plays a more central role in financing content.

In the next two years, Buet said roughly 70% of Newen Connect’s revenues will stem from content it pre-finances and/or co-produces, rather than licensing deals.

“We use to be gap deficit-ers, bringing minimum guarantees against rights for international. The original movie’s screenwriter Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) returns, along with co-writer Alice Nutter (Accused), and Uberto Pasolini (Nowhere Special) also coming back as executive producer.

Emmerdale star Dale Meeks has died aged 47, his family has said.

The actor played Simon Meredith in the ITV soap Emmerdale from 2003-2006. Mr Meeks also starred in Cbbc show Byker Grove and ITV true crime drama The Hunt for Raoul Moat, which aired just last week.

The 47-year-old’s death was announced by a family member in a post on Facebook. His cause of death has not been revealed.

The post read: “So unbelievably sad. Brother in Law, mucca, side kick and just the Best friend a lad could have wished for. Rip Dale Meeks. So much less to laugh about now you’re not there to share it with.

“Thanks everyone for all the beautiful messages and memories you have been sharing. The support of Dale’s friends has been so incredibly strong over these chaotic, heartbreaking final hours, I can only stand in awe.”

Vera really likes to keep us waiting. Series 11 of this beloved British detective series began broadcasting back in summer 2021, and after four episodes were released between then and January 2022, there’s been a year-long unexplained wait for the last two feature-length episodes of the series, which finally began airing on ITV1 on Sunday 15th January.

The eight-part series is set in affluent 1980s England where two powerful men and neigbors – Olympian turned politician Rupert Campbell-Black and television exec Tony Baddingham – have a longstanding rivalry that finally comes to a head.

BAFTA has announced the winners of this year’s British Academy Children’s Awards. There were three first-time winners at the ceremony in London, including Emily Burnett who won the BAFTA for Performer for her role in The Dumping Ground; Lindsey Russell for Presenter for Blue Peter; and Bella Ramsay for her performance in The Worst Witch in the Young Performer category.

Dirk Campbell, also for The Worst Witch, won in the Director category. The coming-of-age film Leaving Care, following two care leavers as they navigate a series of firsts without the help of a family, won two BAFTAs: Content For Change and Teen.

Exclusive: British drama producer Slim Film + Television has teamed with Luther creator Neil Cross’ New Zealand-based production company on an adaptation of Stacy Gregg’s Pony Club Secrets books.

Horrible Histories could be heading to success at this year's British Academy Children's Awards after being nominated in three categories.

The programme leads the nominations with nods in the Comedy and Writing categories, while Jessica Ransom is also nominated in the performer category for her turn as Mary, Queen of Scots.

Elsewhere, The Incredible Adventures of Professor Branestawm is nominated in the Comedy category, while star Harry Hill is also a contender.

Meanwhile, Peppa Pig is up for awards in the Preschool: Animation and Writer categories, while Operation Ouch! is in the running for a Factual award.

Screenterrier posted details of open casting calls to find Peter, Wendy and Tiger Lily for a new ITV drama based on the classic children's novel Peter Pan by J.M Barrie, now called Peter & Wendy, and the cast has now been announced.

13 year old Hazel Doupe from Ireland, will star in the joint roles of twelve year old Lucy Rose, a patient at modern day Great Ormond Street Hospital, and Wendy Darling, in her re-imagining of Peter Pan story.

BBC iPlayer experienced its best month on record in January 2015.

The on-demand service received 343 million requests last month, with TV content seeing record viewership at 264 million.

Mobile and tablet requests accounted for 48% of that figure in January, breaking another record for the platform thanks to a surge in TV and radio customers.

Christmas and New Year specials of EastEnders, Top Gear and Miranda attracted around 2 million customers per episode, while The Voice UK, Silent Witness, Wolf Hall and The Dumping Ground were also popular.

Radio 1's Fearne Cotton Show was the most popular radio show in January, followed closely by the Chris Evans Breakfast Show.

Football coverage, The Now Show, The Unbelievable Truth, and new Radio 4 series War and Peace also fared well.

The Dumping Ground is set to return to Cbbc in 2015 for a fourth series. The 20 episodes of the new series will start filming in the North-East of England in Summer/Autumn 2015. The award-winning drama is set in and inspired by Jacqueline Wilson’s children’s home, and this new series will continue to follow the lives of the diverse group of young people who live there, combining the anarchic activities of this alternative family with tough and emotional storylines.

ITV has announced a new six-part World War II drama series.

Created and written by Simon Block and given the working title Jambusters, the drama follows a group of inspirational women in a rural Cheshire community.

"We're really delighted to have commissioned Jambusters," said ITV director of drama Steve November.

"Great writing from Simon has given Julie Summers's wonderful book a fictional life. The women are real and engaging, and have fantastic spirit and attitude.

With World War II on the horizon, multiple strands of plot interweave to create a period drama full of jeopardy and intrigue, but also great humanity and modernity."

Executive producer Francis Hopkinson added: "Thanks to Simon Block's brilliant script, inspired by Julie Summers's book, this series will take a fresh look at life on the Home Front, showing both the tragedies and the triumphs, and offering some wonderful roles for Britain's top actresses.

Nine year old identical twins, Nelly and Gwen Currant, from Hertfordshire have been chosen to play the roles of twin characters Toni and Billie in the new series of the popular children’s drama The Dumping Ground, which starts filming this week.

Nelly and Gwen applied via an open casting process which ran earlier this year. The twins applied via the Cbbc website and sent in an audition film before coming to BBC MediaCity for a live audition. They impressed the casting team with their natural acting style, energy and the clear bond that they had with each other.

Lis Steele, Executive Producer on The Dumping Ground, says: "Casting nine year old identical twins was set to be an incredible challenge but we were bowled over by the range and quality of auditions. Despite being newcomers to acting, Nelly and Gwen showed naturalness, a sense of fun and a terrific understanding of the show's storytelling.

Cbbc has ordered a third series of the terrific Wizards Vs Aliens...

Cbbc has several jewels in its crown, Wolfblood, The Dumping Ground,  Wizards Vs Aliens, Vic Reeves' The Ministry Of Curious Stuff, and of course, the dearly departed Horrible Histories and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Amongst the very best is Wizards Vs Aliens, the only children's series to win a place in our 'Best TV episodes of 2013' writers' poll, for outstanding instalment, The Thirteenth Floor.

Great news then, that Wizards Vs Aliens, like Wolfblood before it, has been renewed for a third series. Cbbc is looking for identical-looking twins – or children who can pass for identical-looking twins – to be cast in the next series of The Dumping Ground!

The Dumping Ground, the BAFTA-winning children’s drama series inspired by, and set in, Jacqueline Wilson’s fictional children’s home, will be returning to the channel for an action-packed third series next year, and producers are hoping to find identical-looking children to play twins in the programme.

Young people from across the UK who are interested in a career in acting and can pass for identical-looking twins are being invited to submit audition videos for a chance to star in the show, which is made by the Cbbc Productions in-house drama team in Salford.

Lis Steele, executive producer of The Dumping Ground says:

“We’re not looking for professional videos or previous acting experience, just bags of enthusiasm and a spark of natural talent.

BBC iPlayer has recorded its biggest ever month for requests.

January 2014 saw the on-demand service reach a record of 315 million programme requests for both TV and Radio.

Meanwhile, the first episode of Sherlock's third series generated over 3.6 million requests, making it the third-most requested programme of all time.

Other popular programmes have been The Voice UK, as well as the fifth and final series of Outnumbered.

It was the first time that the 300 million barrier has been broken, and an average of 10.2m daily requests were seen in January - the highest ever.

The number of requests via mobiles and tablets accounted for 40% of all requests at 127 million overall. This was another record high.

Two new faces join Cbbc's The Dumping Ground, the sequel to the multi-award-winning Cbbc dramas The Story Of Tracy Beaker and Tracy Beaker Returns, as it returns for a second series this January.

16 year old Kasey McKellar (represented by D&B Management) plays newcomer Bailey. Kasey recently appeared in Top Boy 2 playing R'Marni. And Stacy Liu joins the cast as new carer May Li.

The new series will consist of 13 new 30-minute episodes plus 10 exclusive three-minute webisodes which will run parallel to the stories broadcast on the channel.

The webisodes will feature an exclusive storyline which will run online for 10 weeks, culminating in a cliff-hanger which will be resolved in the last episode of the TV broadcast as both the online and TV stories merge for the series finale.
