Parineeta Chopra reportedly gave up on Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal (2023) to dedicate her time to Amar Singh Chamkila.
In 2012, Anurag Kashyap was planning a film on Punjabi folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila. Kunal Kapoor was signed to play the lead with Amit Trivedi as the composer. The film got shelved.
Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh have sung a total of 15 songs for the film. On this, Chopra stated, "One of the main reasons I did this film was because I was getting to sing some 15 songs for it."
The film marks Imtiaz Ali's return as a director after four years.
Singer Mohit Chauhan appears on screen in opening credit.
