Director 'Freddy Vargas' did an exhaustive search for the female lead until he saw a very well known comedian (Cheddy Garcia) in her native Dominican Republic, acting in her much-acclaimed first dramatic role in the film "Anna's Struggle", for which she received a nomination from Dominican Republic's Soberano Awards as best actress. Mr. Vargas had only to see a few minutes of this film to know he found his Sonia in Cheddy Garcia.
