An old myth hangs over The Port Talbot steel works, should the flame that burns ever go out, that huge misfortune will fall on the town. One evening the unthinkable happens, and the light goes out.
A drama series about the light going out in Port Talbot feels very fitting right now, with news of the future of the works in serious jeopardy. If you know Port Talbot at all, you'll how important the steel works is there, it really is the beating heart.
It seems to have been much maligned, but as someone that has worked in Port Talbot, I was keen to see it. Nice to see another big drama filmed in South Wales, following on from the recent Viagra drama.
Personally, I really enjoyed it, I thought this first episode was excellent, so different, very different to the usual crime dramas.
Plenty of Welsh talent on display here, the likes of Mark Lewis Jones, Mali Harris and the incredible Callum Scott Howells (magical actor.)
Lots of fascinating old footage used, it looks great.
Lots of filming at Cafe Remo's, a place I'd hugely recommend, well worth a visit to Aberavon front.
8/10.
