Yang (Space Force) are the latest additions to the cast of the upcoming film 80 for Brady, from Paramount Pictures and Endeavor Content. They join an ensemble that includes 7-time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady, as well as Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, Sally Field and Sara Gilbert, as previously announced.

ABC has put in development Better Late, a multi-camera comedy from filmmaker David E. Talbert (Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey), Lyn Sisson-Talbert, LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s The Springhill Company and ABC Signature.

Written by Talbert, Better Late is inspired by his real life. It’s about a first-time dad whose world gets turned upside down when his own father, a charismatic deadbeat, shows back up hoping for a do-over with his son and a relationship with his grandson. The multi-camera comedy is a show about forgiveness, second chances and the search for silver linings even in the cloudiest of situations.

Exclusive: Hot off the success of Netflix’s first original musical Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey, David E. Talbert and Lyn Sisson-Talbert have signing a first-look deal for their Golden Alchemy banner, to write, direct and produce movies for Netflix. It is the first overall deal for the prolific playwright and filmmaker, who partners in Golden Alchemy with his wife, a prolific producer and author on her own.

David E. Talbert began his career as a playwright and broke into directing on the studio level with the hit First Sunday. He followed with films that included Baggage Claim, Almost Christmas and El Camino Christmas, the latter of which he made for Netflix. He continued as a prolific playwright who has written and produced 14 national tours and wrote the novels Baggage Claim, Love on the Dotted Line, and Love Don’t Live Here No More: Book One of Doggy Tales, which he wrote with Snoop Dogg.

Filmmaker and playwright David E. Talbert could very well be the preeminent auteur of holiday movies. In 2016, he directed Almost Christmas which was followed by El Camino Christmas in 2017. Bonneville will star alongside Forest Whitaker in the holiday film about a toymaker and a magical invention. The cast also includes Keegan-Michael Key (Key and Peele), Phylicia Rashad (A Raisin in the Sun), Tony winner Anika Noni Rose (Caroline, or Change), and newcomer Madalen Mills.

Whitaker will play Jeronicus Jangle, a once-great inventor and toy maker who has lost his belief in himself and his inventions, but stumbles upon a second chance and a magical invention, when his granddaughter comes to town for the holidays. The Oscar-winning actor is coming off Black Panther, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Arrival. Ted Melfi and Kimberly Quinn’s production company Goldenlight Films has signed a first-look deal with Alcon Television Group. The two-year pact will see the Hidden Figures and St Vincent director write, direct, supervise, and produce original projects for Alcon. The deal includes all content created and developed by Melfi and Quinn for TV including digital.

Alcon Television Group’s projects include the upcoming animated children’s series Pete the Cat based on the bestselling books, set to bow on Amazon next month, and The Expanse, which resumes with its Season 4 next year also on Amazon.

If you haven’t watched Netflix’s “A Christmas Prince” yet, then you’re missing out. It’s not that the movie is really all that good. It’s Ok, but we’ll get back to that in a second. What matters is that this fairy tale rom-com has helped Netflix begin its mission: to steal Christmas from cable networks.

Netflix’s latest offering is a true nightmare before Christmas — and that’s a good thing. “El Camino Christmas,” available to stream on Friday, Dec. 8, tells the story of a drifter (played by “Fifty Shades of Grey”‘s Luke Grimes) whose arrival in a sleepy California town sets off a chain of chaotic events, culminating in a fatal hostage situation at a liquor store. As the madness unfolds, countless lives — including those of a single mother (played by Letterkenny’s Michelle Mylett) and her young, introverted son — are changed forever.

In case it wasn’t already clear, this isn’t your typical comedy — and it’s definitely not your typical Christmas movie.
