The Making of... 'Lifeforce' (1985)
** 1/2 (out of 4)
This 21-minute documentary takes us behind-the-scenes of Tobe Hooper's LIFEFORCE, a film that had very high expectations but just never really caught on with the public. This documentary was clearly made to try and strike up interest in the film but this thing is a rather mixed bag. For starters, there's some great material here that fans of the film are going to love. We get all sorts of behind-the-scenes footage that allows us to see how various scenes were filmed. We get to see Hooper and crew working to get everything in order and we also get to see some of the special effects brought to life. Getting to see this stuff is a big thrill even if you're not a fan of the film but where this documentary goes wrong, as far as trying to sell the film, is that it's rather confusing. It's easy to see how someone might have seen this back in 1985 and stayed away from the movie as they make the film seem quite dumb. This certainly isn't the fault of Hooper and company but LIFEFORCE had an already stretched storyline so this documentary and its descriptions really didn't help as far as selling to the public was concerned. Still, fans of LIFEFORCE will want to check this out.
