Will Packer has been named Producer of the 94th Annual Academy Awards, set for March 27.

This will be the first Oscar show to be produced by Packer, a prolific producer of numerous films and TV projects including Straight Outta Compton, Ride Along, Girls Trip, the Think Like a Man films and the television remake of Roots, for which he received an Emmy nomination. But his credits do not include a lot of live TV projects, so taking on the Oscars will be a relatively new experience. His wide-ranging credits in comedy give hope that he also will be creating a fun Academy Awards.

Cicely Tyson’s co-stars and admirers shared their remembrances of the late Emmy and Tony-winning actor, who died Thursday at 96.

Viola Davis, who starred opposite Tyson, playing mother and daughter for six seasons on “How to Get Away with Murder,” shared a lengthy tribute to the legend alongside a photo from the set.

America doesn’t have a system of knights or dames, as Britain, Australia and New Zealand do. If there were such a system, Cicely Tyson would have undoubtedly been honored. But Tyson, who died on Thursday, a month after her 96th birthday, didn’t need any government-sanctioned titles: Admirers such as Ava DuVernay, Tyler Perry and Shonda Rhimes call her Queen Cicely, which was much more appropriate for her.

Her 70-year career was filled with landmark works, including the film “Sounder” (1972) and TV’s “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman” (1974), “Roots” (1977), “A Woman Called Moses”, and “The Trip to Bountiful” (2014), among many others. There was also her recurring role in “How to Get Away With Murder,” in which she was Emmy-nominated five times, most recently in 2020, for playing the mother of lead character Annalise Keating (Viola Davis).

Actress Cicely Tyson, star of “Sounder” and ABC’s “How to Get Away With Murder,” has died at the age of 96. The news was broken by the Associated Press with no mention of cause of death.

Tyson’s career spanned seven decades starting in 1951. She gained widespread acclaim in 1972 when she played the role of Rebecca Morgan in the adaptation of “Sounder,” the story of Black sharecroppers, and a young boy’s relationship with his beloved dog. She would not only get an Oscar nomination for her performance, but a Golden Globe nod as well. She would later win two Emmys for playing the title role in 1974’s “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.” The role saw her play the title character, who goes from slavery to the Civil Rights Movement. In her career, Tyson would rack up a whopping 14 Emmy nominations.

Despite her age, Tyson refused to give up acting.

Emmy- and Tony-winning actress Cicely Tyson, who distinguished herself in theater, film and television, died on Thursday afternoon. She was 96.

“I have managed Miss Tyson’s career for over 40 years, and each year was a privilege and blessing,” her manager, Larry Thompson, said in a statement. “Cicely thought of her new memoir as a Christmas tree decorated with all the ornaments of her personal and professional life. Today she placed the last ornament, a Star, on top of the tree.”

Her memoir “Just As I Am” was published on Tuesday.

Cloris Leachman, who won a record eight Emmys across seven categories plus a Daytime Emmy, died on January 27 at the age of 94. In a business that favors the young, she came into her prime when she was already in her forties. Leachman earned the first of her 22 Emmy nominations for her scene-stealing work on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” in 1972, just weeks after winning the supporting actress Oscar for “The Last Picture Show.”

Netflix has released a new trailer for Black Mirror Season 4. This one is for the episode called "Black Museum" and it's definitely the craziest looking episode yet! 

"Black Museum" stars Catastrophe's Douglas Hodge, Letitia Wright (Humans, Ready Player One) and Babs Olusanmokun (Roots, The Defenders), and it was directed by Colm McCarthy.

In the trailer, we see Wright's character happen upon a little roadside museum run by Hodge's character. He starts to give her a little tour and her curiosity is piqued. As the trailer plays out, we see that very bad, twisted, and torturous things are going to happen. It seems like this one will contain multiple stories. It's like an anthology episode for an anthology series! 

We still have no idea when Black Mirror Season 4 will be released, but while we wait for the announcement, enjoy the trailer!

Comparing installments of an anthology like “Black Mirror” is an inherently tricky prospect. Most of the entries have a certain “We’re all doomed” streak that runs through them, but whether hopeful or defeatist, there’s something distinctly different animating each of these episodes.

Arranging them in quality doesn’t necessarily make for the ideal viewing order either. Want to bit of uplift with your futurism? Bent on basking in the futility of trying to avoid a planet without dangerous automated attacks against nature? The rhythms of this series rise and fall more on their themes than the wallop each of these stories delivers.

But if you’re a die-hard fan or just wading into Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones’ murky sci-fi waters, a new season is on the horizon, so we’re adding our rankings to the mix.

‘Black Mirror‘ is a show that I absolutely love. In what is the closest thing to a modern day ‘Twilight Zone‘, creator/show runner Charlie Booker‘s hypnotic series has managed to captivate audiences in it’s first three seasons. The show – which was originally aired on BBC – was expanded to a six episode format after Netflix picked up the show for it’s third, and now fourth season, and is highly anticipated to say the least.

Producer Will Packer has partnered with Discovery Communications and Universal Pictures to form Will Packer Media, a production and branded content company.

The venture will focus on what the company calls the “New American Mainstream audience, with an urban millennial core that is defining and driving pop culture at large.”

Will Packer Media will produce episodic scripted and unscripted series across television and digital platforms. The company will also create branded content, as well as short form content aimed at millennial audiences. Packer will serve as CEO.

In support of its digital short form media and branded content goals, the company has acquired creative and technology agency Narrative_, co-founded by Tricia Clarke-Stone and Russell Simmons, which will form a core part of Will Packer Media.

Following a record-breaking weekend at the box office for his latest release, Girls Trip, producer Will Packer on Tuesday announced a partnership with Universal Pictures and Discovery Communications for a TV production and branded-content deal.

Will Packer Media will produce a wide range of media, from scripted and unscripted series to advertising campaigns to shortform content on a branded digital platform.

UK-based Moviehouse Entertainment has been appointed to handle world sales for Gary Young’s directorial feature debut Two Graves.

Young produced and wrote Michael Caine and Emily Mortimer starrer Harry Brown and most recently co-wrote Adam Randall thriller Level Up.

Also written by Young, Two Graves is being produced by Keith Bell (Harry Brown), Shantelle Rochester-Henry (The Rise Of The Krays) and Lorianne Hall (SoulBoy) and stars I, Daniel Blake’s Dave Johns, Cathy Tyson (Mona Lisa), David Hayman (Taboo), Josh Herdman (Robin Hood), Katie Jarvis (Fish Tank), Danielle Harold (EastEnders) and Kedar Williams-Stirling (Roots).

The deal was negotiated by Lorianne Hall for the producers and Moviehouse Entertainment’s Mark Vennis.
