Vet and former police detective Hauke Jacobs 'helps' Schwanitz constable investigate the possibly accidental fatal shooting at the outskirts of town of generally disliked local huntsman Benedikt from a reputed family. Daughter Sara Benedikt (17) hides the identity of her baby's father, even to her protective big brother and now guardian Lukas Benedikt (19), actually Kai Jensen, son of family arch-rival Lars. Surveyor Achim Möller, the Benedikts' friend since a half year, actually secretly found out heir worthless land was about to yield a fortune. False presumptions due to secrecy may cause pointless new violence.

Police officer Lona Vogt falls into a trap and is seriously injured in an explosion. Hauke Jacobs and assistant Jule try to find the culprit.

A serial killer is targeting red-haired women. This has fatal consequences for Lona. All of Schwanitz is shocked. Jule tries to lure the perpetrator on her own.

Retired city cop Hauke Jacobs starts a new career as veterinarian in Ostsee small port town Schwanitz, where he bough a home boat. The only local vet dies from a suicidal car-dive in the canal before Hauke's eyes at arrival, despite local 'chief' cop Lona Vogt after him. So unconventional, in-living practice assistant Jule Christiansen is hired as Hauke takes over the patients. Beach-strolling, Jacob discovers a stranded fishing boat, aboard of which are parrot Käpt'n Hook and two corpses, the first in the (Lübeck) area in decades. Drowning in inexperience, Vogt commandeers reluctant Hauke's expertise. The case turns international: two Latvian ferry passengers are reported missing, in fact au pair-girls tracked down by human traffickers Matthias Keller and Viktors Berzins and hiding with local widower farmer Thorsten Riemann, being observed by Turkish tramp Mehmet Ösker.

Hauke Jacobs's vet practice wins the municipal social projects prize for assistant Jule Christiansen's neglected animals 'mercy garden', but she feels neglected by Hauke, who ignores her romantic interest and eagerly invites to his home boat ex Sandy de Man, who cook for the pair and hopes to lure him away. Her arrival 'coincides' with the crimes of two fake beat cops, actually drug trade thugs from Hamburg, who terrorize locals, including a gambling-debts-bound farmer accomplice. Hauke and constable Lona Voigt tie their trails together.

In "The attack", the Prime Minister Maria Wengler makes a detour to Schwanitz to visit the house where she was born. Sounds harmless - but investigative journalist Jan Bank is shot dead while researching on site. The LKA man Frank Schmiedel, bodyguard for the Prime Minister, found the weapon at Hauke Jacobs of all places. Only with the help of his veterinary assistant Jule Christiansen and his new colleague could Jacobs prove his innocence. There are increasing indications that Jan Bank was on the trail of a plot whose goal could be an assassination attempt on the top politician.
