“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” actor Cooper Koch says the first time he spoke to the real Erik Menendez was not the day he visited the real brothers in prison alongside Kim Kardashian. The actor, who plays Erik in the series, tells Variety that he and the real Erik talked on the phone the night before “Monsters” premiered on Netflix.
“I got to have a really good conversation with him and tell him that I believe him and I did everything I could as an actor to advocate for him and portray him as authentically as possible, and that I think the show does a really good job of representing him,” Koch told Variety. “We had a really nice conversation. We talked about other things like I went to Calabasas High School, which is where he went when he first moved to California. My father graduated Beverly Hills High School...

But did you know that before overwhelming us in the samurai epic, she was kicking it J-pop style? Yes, Sawai was part of a J-pop group but quickly left after realizing that the industry’s approach was not music to her ears. From small roles in Netflix’s Giri/Haji to a pulse-pounding appearance in F9, haven’t we all hit the jackpot with her decision to pivot career paths?

Jodie Foster is officially an Emmy winner. The veteran actor took home her first trophy from the TV Academy on Sunday night, winning lead actress in a limited series for her role in “True Detective: Night Country.”
After Lily Gladstone and Greta Lee presented the golden statuette to Foster at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the actress was in a fluster during the “emotional moment,” as she immediately flubbed the name of the HBO series, calling it, “True Detective: North Country.”
Foster quickly recovered and said making the show was a “magical experience and it all comes from the top,” listing off thank-yous for “Night Country” creator Issa López, the crew and her co-star Kali Reis.
In particular, Foster said she wanted to highlight the Inuit people of Northern Alaska. “They just told us their stories and they allowed us to listen and that was just a blessing. It was love,...

Elizabeth Olsen is open to reprising Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but only if there’s a way to use the character well. The actor hasn’t been seen in the MCU since 2022’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” which turned Wanda into a full blown villain and ended with the character crushed under a collapsed building. Her fate is unknown, and neither Olsen nor Marvel have yet to announce when Scarlet Witch will reappear.
“It’s a character that I love going back to when there’s a way to use her well, and I think I have been lucky that when I started I was used well,” Olsen said in a recent interview with FM104 (via Collider). “I think people didn’t know what to do with me for a second there. … If there’s a good way to use her I...

Black Widow is one of the most well-known characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a well-known member of the Avengers. Before the character sadly passed away in the final two films of the Infinity Saga, she made her screen debut in the Iron Man flicks. Black Widow’s passing essentially ended Scarlett Johansson’s MCU career, despite the character receiving a stand-alone prequel movie.
Chris Evans’s MCU journey as Captain America, who made his film debut in a stand-alone film and went on to become one of the MCU’s most significant characters until retiring in Endgame and choosing to stay with Peggy in past, was somewhat similar, although it had a completely different epilogue.
While the two of them were on-screen collaborators, they were also close friends outside the silver screen, and that friendship is an interesting aspect of their stories that we’d like to report on in this article,...

Not unlike that of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, whose off-screen friendship raised the bar on their on-screen chemistry across several Rat Pack films, George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s smooth-operating, cross-demographic appeal speaks to a timeless allure. Theirs is a brand of debonair masculinity that seems to only exist in the Hollywood imaginary, and it’s one that writer-director Jon Watts’s action comedy Wolfs is content to lazily coast on.
The witty repartee between Clooney and Pitt’s characters, two professional fixers who find themselves hired for the same job, feels like the only thing holding the film together. Scene after scene finds the men trying to exercise their masculinist domination over each other—a dick-wagging contest that grows old fast. And when they aren’t ribbing each other, they’re sexily standing around brooding. It’s like watching an episode of Variety Studio: Actors on Actors...

“The first [direct message] I ever opened myself when I was 12 was an unsolicited photo of a man’s genitals. And that was just the beginning of what was to come,” she said. Ortega revealed that she was also sent AI-generated child pornography of herself.

The Addams Family is a classic, but Wednesday really takes things up a notch, so it’s no surprise she got her own show. When the first season premiered in 2022, it was a total hit. However, like any TV show, it did get some negative feedback from the audience as well.

With the new season, it looks like the public’s feedback has been heard, and improvements are being made. One major talking point on social media might set the tone for the upcoming episodes. Fans can expect things to be very different from now on.

Many fans expect adaptations to stay true to the original, which makes it challenging to create a movie or series that appeals to a broad audience. The result won’t always please everyone, but some elements...

There’s been a lot of talk about Friends recently, partly due to the tragic passing of Matthew Perry, partly owing to the fact that it’s celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and partly because the show has finally been immortalized in donut form.
So when Jennifer Aniston sat down with Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” interview series last month, naturally the topic of Friends came up. Specifically, Brunson praised the cast’s comedic rhythm, which she noted was unusual for a multi-camera sitcom. “People are clapping and laughing, but you guys aren’t waiting for the clap or laugh. Or it doesn’t feel that way to the viewer,” Brunson told Aniston, who she hailed as her “comedy queen.”
“Lisa Kudrow, by the way, hated when the audience laughed,” Aniston responded. “She’d be like, ‘I’m not done! It’s not that funny!

Ellen Pompeo will be in the upcoming season of “Grey’s Anatomy” more than fans might have imagined.
Pompeo will appear on at least seven of the upcoming season’s 18 episodes, Variety has confirmed. The news comes after her character Meredith Grey was given an emotional send-off in Season 19, and despite appearing in 10 episodes in Season 20, her presence in future episodes was uncertain.
Variety‘s Kate Aurthur paid tribute to both Meredith and Pompeo in a story written about the send-off episode.
“Ellen Pompeo could forge chemistry with anyone,” she wrote. “Along with its lexicon-changing writing and intricate yet rowdy plotting by Shonda Rhimes, what’s made ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ a phenomenon was watching Meredith just live her life. She was a character network television never seen before: a brilliant woman whose life had been marred by tragedy, yet who wasn’t going to let her dark and twisty past get in her way.

Gird your loins. Miranda Priestly is set to deliver more withering glances in a sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada.”
Disney is developing a sequel to the hit 2006 movie starring Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, the high-powered fashion magazine editor from hell with Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt as her harried assistants Andrea Sachs and Emily Charlton.
The original film’s screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is in talks to return to pen the next chapter. Who from the original cast will return is not clear, but the storyline reportedly follows Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.

However, some people believe her reason for digging her heels in is because she has an ulterior motive behind it.

Acting is a pretty unusual profession. After all, most people don't push themselves through intense pretend emotions in order to earn a paycheck, which means there are sometimes some interesting impacts in an actor's life. There are all kinds of stories about how particular roles changed actors forever, but what about a film giving a performer their first heartbreak? Plenty of young actors have their first kiss onscreen, but a first heartbreak is rather unique. In Vanity Fair's "Actors on Actors" interview series, "Furiosa" star Anya Taylor-Joy revealed that she suffered her first heartbreak as a result of one of her earliest roles: Thomasin in Robert Eggers' 2015 folk horror film "The Witch."
"The Witch" is a seriously spooky slow burn of a horror movie that really puts Thomasin through the ringer as she contends with the forces of the devil after she and her family are ostracized from their Puritan...

Taking the next giant leap in its quest to produce original content, Netflix went on to receive widespread acclaim as well as continued spotlight for The Crown series. Revolving around the life of the late Queen Elizabeth II, depicting her reign from 1947 to 2005, the show brought back to focus the tumultuous times and hardships that come with being a working royal of the British throne.
The Peter Morgan brainchild also came across as the fuel for numerous debates with its exploration of a storyline arc involving Princess Diana.

The line-up for the new series of Variety’s Actors On Actors has been revealed, with high profile movie performers interviewing each other.
Variety’s Actors On Actors is one of the most delightful series you can watch as a film fan. The central conceit is that two actors sit down for a natter about their work, often going off on tangents, acting as a unique insight into the industry.
Generally, the pairings are quite surprising, with the actors concerned often never having worked together and, in some cases, seeming quite random, but each one is fascinating and, usually, an absolute hoot. Anne Hathaway told Vanity Fair during a cover story interview that Christopher Nolan more or less saved her career when public opinion turned against her in the lead up to and the aftermath of her winning the Oscar for “Les Miserables.” Hathaway was widely mocked online at this time, and she once remembered googling herself after the Oscar win only to see one of the top search results was an article with the title: “Why does everyone hate Anne Hathaway?”
“A lot of people wouldn’t give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my identity had become online,” Hathaway now told Vanity Fair. “I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who did not care about that and gave me one of the most beautiful roles I’ve had in one of the best films that I’ve been a part of.”

Back in 2022, her co-star Anne Hathaway also shared that a sequel wasn’t a possibility anymore.

Jenna Ortega told E! on the Emmys red carpet that she’s “received some scripts for the second season” of “Wednesday,” her Netflix mega-hit that debuted in fall 2022 and became one of the streamer’s most-watched original series of all time. Production on Season 2 got delayed by the Hollywood strikes last year but is expected to kick off in the spring.
“We’re definitely leaning into a little bit more horror,” Ortega said in an update to fans. “It’s really, really exciting because, all throughout the show, while Wednesday does need a little bit of an arc, she never really changes and that’s the wonderful thing about her.
Ortega continued, “There’s really, really good one-liners and I think everything’s bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. Each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.”

Katherine Heigl joined her former “Grey’s Anatomy” cast members Ellen Pompeo, Justin Chambers, James Pickens Jr. and Chandra Wilson on stage during the Emmy Awards in what was one of the more high-profile reunions for the stars. The group presented the Emmy for supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie to Paul Walter Hauser for Apple’s “Black Bird.”
The Emmys telecast was full of cast reunions, from “Martin” to “The Sopranos” and more, but Heigl joining forces with her “Grey’s” cast was notable given her controversial exit from the series.
“When the first episode of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ aired in March of 2005, I’m not sure if Shonda Rhimes knew that she had created a show that would have a lasting imprint on television and create lifelong friendships,” Pompeo said to the audience ahead of the show’s 20th season launching this year.

It’s impossible to imagine “The Devil Wears Prada” without Meryl Streep’s icy, Oscar-nominated performance as Miranda Priestly, but it turns out there was initial resistance to casting the acting icon in the 2006 classic. During a recent appearance on the “Hollywood Gold” podcast, producer Wendy Finerman revealed Streep was almost passed over for the role because some people thought “she has never been funny a day in her life.”

Rachel Zegler opened up for the first time during a discussion for Variety’s “Actors on Actors,” presented by “Air,” about what it was like working with CGI characters on the set of Disney’s upcoming live-action “Snow White” movie. Zegler is starring as the iconic Disney princess in the film opposite Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. “500 Days of Summer” and “The Amazing Spider-Man” filmmaker Marc Webb directed the movie.

Variety has released its newest pack of actor interviews, where movie peers get to interview each other on their craft and their experiences on their latest films. The little interview series, titled Actors on Actors, pairs together notable names who you usually don’t see together for any project, but this year includes some seemingly deliberate combinations. Margot Robbie and Cillian Murphy got to talk about their “Barbenheimer” experiences in one video. Then, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt got to have a Devil Wears Prada reunion in another, where they also shared their experiences of working with Christopher Nolan.
Once the subject is breached, Blunt immediately refers to him as “Captain Extraordinary.” Hathaway obliges, and the two joke about Nolan’s lack of effusiveness while directing, so they have to find other tells that he’s happy with a take. Blunt jokes, “I always feel that with Chris’ hair. I...

Disney's streak of live-action remakes continues, and one we're looking forward to is the upcoming film "Snow White," a revival of 1937's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." The original "Snow White" was Disney's first animated feature film and, adjusted for inflation, is one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time. The new version stars Rachel Zegler as the titular heroine, with Gal Gadot joining her as the Evil Queen intent on being the fairest of them all.
The movie is directed by Marc Webb and wrapped filming in the summer of 2022, though Walt Disney Studios revealed on Oct. 27 that fans will have to wait until 2025 to see it. Besides that, not a whole lot is known about the film, though the team behind it have teased that there will be some pretty big differences between the original and the new one.

Besides that, not a whole lot is known about the film, though the team behind it have teased that there will be some pretty big differences between the original and the new one.

Christina Ricci has been in the entertainment industry for long enough to establish her comfort level when it comes to filming sex scenes. The actor spoke candidly about how she doesn’t particularly enjoy them. This preference once could have landed her in legal trouble. The Yellowjackets star explained that while working on a project, she refused to film a sex scene. The boundary nearly got her sued.
Christina Ricci said she was threatened with a lawsuit when she refused to film a sex scene
In an appearance on The View, Ricci spoke about how film and television sets have changed over the years. Actors can state firm boundaries and have them respected by the crew and their co-stars. This wasn’t always possible in the near past.
“It’s really great,” she said, per Variety. “Us older ladies talk about it all the time. It’s amazing to see...

Elizabeth Olsen made her Marvel debut as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in 2013’s “Captain America and the Winter Soldier”.
Since then, she’s played the character in numerous other Marvel projects, including “Aveengers: Age of Ultron”, “Captain America: Civil War”, “Avengers: Infinity War”, “Avengers: Endgame”, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”, and the Disney+ series “WandaVision”.
While she’s managed to slide in a few other projects, she’s ready to play more roles that aren’t within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“I’m trying to figure out… Because, specifically in the last four years, my output has been Marvel,” she said in a recent interview (conducted prior to the start of the SAG-AFTRA strike) with The Times of London.
“I don’t want… it’s not that I don’t want to be associated as just this character.

Elizabeth Olsen told The Times of London in a recently-published interview (conducted pre-strike) that she is aggressively seeking a “variation” of characters after working for four years solely in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Olsen filmed “WandaVision” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” back to back, which was perhaps too much time dedicated to only playing Scarlet Witch. That’s a large reason Olsen was drawn to playing alleged axe murderer Candy Montgomery in Max’s “Love and Death.”
“I’m trying to figure out… Because, specifically in the last four years, my output has been Marvel,” Olsen said. “I don’t want… it’s not that I don’t want to be associated as just this character. But I really feel like I need to be building other parts back up for balance. I so much want to do films right now. And I hope some of them...

Before Pedro Pascal landed the male lead in HBO’s adaptation of the hugely popular “The Last of Us” video game, rumors swirled that co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann were trying to lure former “True Detective” stars Mahershala Ali and Matthew McConaughey back to the network to headline the series. Mazin finally sounded off on the casting rumors during a recent interview on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast.
“I actually never talked to Mahershala,” Mazin said before confirming that talks with McConaughey did in fact take place. However, it sounds like McConaughey’s casting never made it past early discussions about the project.
“I did talk to Matthew,” Mazin said. “I can’t say that it was serious, it was more of just like, ‘Hey, here’s something we can talk about’… It’s one of those things where I’m sure there’s an alternate universe where it’s a different guy.
