While now in the center of the Netherlands, Dorestad was much closer to the North Sea coast in the era of the film, and was subject to both seasonal flooding from the Rhine river system, as well as potential catastrophic marine inundation from the west over the vast tidal salt flats to the west.
The gap between Franks and Frisians was wildly exaggerated. Franks are shown as they were several centuries later. Frisians as they were several centuries before.
During the attack on the village during the sacrifices. the command fire is heard before the second volley. one does not command archers to 'fire'. that is for firearms. the proper command is 'loose'. common modern mistake.
At 1:11:46 during the wedding ceremony fight scene modern railings can be seen next to an archer.
Dorestad is in the center of the Netherlands, but the movie makes it looks like it is near the sea. The battle for Dorestad is won by diverting the Frankisch cavalry to the sea and having them drown in the upcoming tide. This would have been a two day journey. One historian however has controversially placed Dorestad at the current location of Audruicq, near the French coast.
The movie made it seem Dorestad was located in modern day Friesland, which is as wrong as locating Paris in Normandy. The scene were they put Redbad on a "wad" so he could be taken by the tide, would mean the people had to travel about a week through hostile marshlands. It makes no sense at all.
