Back in 2018, Sony Pictures announced that it was working on a Silver and Black movie featuring Spider-Man foes/allies Silver Sable and Black Cat.
The project got pretty far into development before being scrapped, with The Old Guard director Gina Prince-Bythewood attached to helm, and a competed script from Lindsey Beer.
Sony ultimately decided not to move forward with Silver and Black, but we did hear that there were plans in place for solo movies featuring the title characters. Nothing ever materialized, but insider Daniel Richtman is now reporting that a Silver Sable project is once again in the works (we're not sure if it's for the big or small screen).
Silver and Black was reportedly going to focus on Silvija Sablinova tracking down a fugitive Felicia Hardy for the U.S. Department of Justice. Spider-Man wasn't part of the script, but other characters such as Scorpion, Tarantula, Chameleon, Tombstone (and...

In an industry saturated with superhero movies, Hancock is perhaps the weirdest of them all, and Charlize Theron, for one, is proud to be its star. With an abundance of projects that range from epic (Avengers: Endgame) to vicious (The Dark Knight), from disturbing (The Boys) to hilarious (Deadpool), from solemn (Joker) to cringeworthy (Batman & Robin), there exists a space for films outside Marvel and DC for films like The Crow and Kick-Ass to thrive without getting stampeded on by the comic book industry.

When The Old Guard began streaming on Netflix, not many would have anticipated that it would go on to become one of the top 10 most successful original launches in the platform’s history. It did, making it a project Netflix was willing to make a sequel of. But that wasn’t the only thing the movie was memorable for.

Exclusive: Chris Hemsworth (Thor & Extraction movies) and Sam Rockwell are “helping out” their stunt-world buddies in the first of an initial four-part movie series called Stuntnuts – yes, it’s a palindrome- which are being made under Matthew Vaughn’s Marv Films banner.
You may have spotted the Stuntnuts title being introduced in the trailer- directed by Vaughn- that Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg recently posted on his official Instagram page to promote Meta’s RayBan Smart Glasses.
It features Zuckerberg, initially seen with an arm ablaze, launching into a series of stunt set pieces with John Cena and Benson Boone choreographed to the tune of Junior Senior’s high energy pop classic Move Your Feet (And Feel United) .

Matthias Schoenaerts has landed the role of the antagonist in DC Studios’ upcoming Supergirl. More on the casting below.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! And it ain't Superman, either. It's actually the latest casting announcement for Craig Gillespie's hotly anticipated new Supergirl movie. After having learned back in January that House Of The Dragon breakout star Milly Alcock is set to play DC's Maiden of Might in James Gunn's new-look DC Universe, and then getting word in April that none other than Cruella helmsman Craig Gillespie is being eyed to direct the project, now we know who Kara Zor-El will be facing in the new movie. As Deadline are reporting, Rust And Bone actor Matthias Schoenaerts has landed the lead villain role opposite Alcock's Supergirl.
There's no official confirmation as of yet which villain from DC's rogues' gallery Schoenaerts — who you may best recognise from his turns in the likes of Netflix's The Old Guard and Jennifer Lawrence spy thriller Red Sparrow — is set to play.

Warner Brothers and DC have cast acclaimed Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts in the role of Krem, the main villain in their upcoming Supergirl movie “Woman of Tomorrow.” Schoenaerts, known for intense roles in films like “Rust and Bone” and “The Old Guard,” will play the comic book character who triggers Kara Zor-El’s journey to become Supergirl.
According to sources close to the production, the film will be based on Tom King’s comic run of the same name. It will tell the story of Kara after the destruction of her home planet Krypton. In the movie, Krem is said to murder the father of a young alien girl. This prompts Supergirl to get involved in her first heroic conflict.
Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, “Woman of Tomorrow” aims to provide a grittier portrayal of Supergirl than past adaptations. The movie will show the differences between Kara and Superman’s origins.

Matthias Schoenaerts is in final negotiations to join the cast of “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” for DC Studios.
He’s being eyed to play the villain opposite “House of the Dragon” actor Milly Alcock, who is starring in the film as the eponymous hero, also known as Kara Zor-El. Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts has nabbed the plum villain role in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which Craig Gillespie is directing for DC Studios.
House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock is toplining the superhero feature as Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman.
The feature is inspired by the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic and will depart from the earnest take on the character audiences may know from the CW Supergirl series. The story hews closer to a grand science-fiction adventure than standard superhero fare as the comic told of a young alien girl who seeks Supergirl’s help in exacting revenge for the killing of her family.
The villain in the comic was Krem of the Yellow Hills, the man who kills the girl’s father. Supergirl is drawn into the conflict when he injured everyone’s favorite superpet, Krypto.

The deal that is expected to install Skydance chief David Ellison as chairman, CEO and hopefully savior of Paramount Global is a labyrinth of entities, trusts and transactions. Also potentially complicated, assuming the deal closes sometime next year, is the question of control.
Skydance sources say 41-year-old David will select the board and run things entirely independent of his father, Larry Ellison, also known as the world’s fifth-richest man, worth an estimated $176 billion, per Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index tally on Sept. 18. But Larry, 80, will own the controlling shares. Having previously bestowed billions on David and his sister, Megan, Larry has now backed his son to the tune of $6 billion as David pursued his dream of running a legacy studio.
What role, if any, Larry will play at the new Paramount is not clear. But given his track record of significant Maga activity, there is certain to be scrutiny — though...

In a world where female filmmakers are consistently making strides, Zoe Saldaña’s comment has become a matter of controversy. The actress has starred in some iconic action blockbusters like Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy, and she recently expressed her concern about the lack of female directors in the action genre.

Premiering at the Venice Film Festival later this month, Joe Wright’s “M. Son of the Century” sees the filmmaker return to the small screen for a long-form examination of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini’s rise to Prime Minister of Italy in 1922, a role which he held until his dismissal in 1943. The last time Wright helmed a limited series such as this was in 2003 with his BBC One show “Charles II: The Power and the Passion,” which covered 27 years in the life of the King as he worked to restore the monarchy. Exploring history has always been one of Wright’s strengths, but with the upcoming American election placing democracy on the ballot, his latest series feels particularly timely.
“M. Son of the Century” is led by Italian actor Luca Marinelli, who has earned international acclaim for his roles in “Martin Eden,” “The Old Guard,” and the FX series “Trust.

Zack Snyder is gearing up to release his Director’s Cut of Rebel Moon, which has gotten fans asking why was there a need for the original version at all. Widely panned by critics, the Rebel Moon duology, which Snyder intends to make as big as its inspiration, Star Wars, has its dedicated fan base, but there is hope that this new iteration of the film will help the IP win some fans who were unimpressed by the previous entries.

Fans of the immortal mercenary movie “The Old Guard” have been eagerly awaiting news about the sequel for over three years now. The first film was a huge hit for Netflix when it came out in 2020, with over 72 million households watching it in the first four weeks! Work on the follow-up movie has hit some bumps, but it seems like things are finally wrapping up.
Charlize Theron, who plays Andy the leader of the group, talked about the delays at an event recently. She said Netflix went through some big changes while they were working on the sequel. “Our post-production literally shut down after only five weeks of work,” Theron explained. But don’t worry – the actress assured fans that filming and editing are back on track. “We finally got it going again and I’m really excited for everyone to see it,” she said.

The last update on The Old Guard 2 was the realization that Netflix doesn't appear to be moving forward with plans to release the sequel in 2024, despite the fact the filming wrapped on the project over a year ago.
When the streamer released a sizzle reel highlighting all of the new shows and movies hitting the platform in 2024, footage from The Old Guard 2 was conspicuously absent.
In a recent interview with Variety, the film's star, Charlize Theron, revealed that Netflix halted post-production work on the sequel but she's confident that the film will eventually be released.
Said Theron, "Netflix went through quite a changeover. We got kind of stuck in that and our post-production shut down, I think, five weeks into it. They were going through a lot of changes, and I totally understand it. We finally picked it back up and I’m really excited about it. It’s really good.

Charlize Theron is a one-woman wrecking crew when it comes to conquering challenges on the silver screen, and soon she could face one of her most formidable foes ever in Apex, a high-profile thriller destined to scale the Netflix charts. Theron is in final negotiations to lead Apex, a genre thriller, with Baltasar Kormákur negotiating to direct from a script by Jeremy Robbins. Plot details are scarce, though Deadline says Apex is like Free Solo meets Silence of the Lambs, with the story following a rock climber who finds herself getting hunted in the wild. The title is a play on an apex being the top or highest part of something (like a cliff) and a particularly dangerous predator in the wild. The more you know!
In addition to her starring role, Theron will executive produce Apex alongside Dawn Olmstead, Beth Kono, and Aj Dix through their newly minted media outlet.

Charlize Theron starred as the immortal mercenary Andy in Netflix’s The Old Guard in 2020. The critical acclaim and popularity of the film resulted in the streamer greenlighting a sequel, The Old Guard 2. The sequel film completed filming in 2022, but a delay in post-production work halted the film’s progress. Theron is confident in the project and shared that it would soon hit the screens.

The Charlize Theron action film The Old Guard was a hit for the Netflix streaming service when it was released in 2020, but the sequel The Old Guard 2 has had an unexpectedly bumpy ride while making its way out into the world. It went into production back in 2022, and filming had to be halted briefly after a fire broke out at the film studio where the movie had been shooting; Rome, Italy’s historic Cinecittà Studios. Then there was a shake-up at Netflix during post-production, so the project got shut down for a while – but Theron has told Variety that The Old Guard 2 is now back on track and coming soon.
Theron said, “Netflix went through quite a changeover. We got kind of stuck in that and our post-production shut down, I think, five weeks into it. They were going through a lot of changes, and I totally understand it.

Chicago – Growth from a young and rising actor is defined by KiKi Layne. After getting her big break as Tish in “If Beale Street Could Talk” from 2018, she has build her resume in both independent (“Native Son”) and tentpole (“Coming 2 America”) films, and showcases her music talent as the title character in “Dandelion,” which opens Friday, July 12th.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
Dandelion (KiKi Layne) is a struggling Cincinnati singer-songwriter in a downward spiral, including dead end gigs and a mother who needs caregiving. When she takes a last-ditch-effort gig at a motorcycle rally in South Dakota she meets Casey (Thomas Doherty), a guitarist who walked away from his dream long ago. As Dandelion joins Casey’s nomadic group of struggling musicians, the kindred spirits make music together and strike up a whirlwind romance.

When David Ellison first came to Hollywood, many dealmakers and insiders both balked and salivated. Here was the son of Larry Ellison, founder of the tech behemoth Oracle, trying to play in the big leagues after dropping out of USC Film School. Being the child of the 3rd wealthiest person in America (now 4th) may have made him not just any other rich kid, but to many, he was still just another nepo baby with cash to burn. And at first, that’s exactly what he did. Financing and co-starring in the 2006 WWI drama “Flyboys,” Ellison’s first dip into the entertainment waters was a critical and box-office failure, only earning $17.8 million against its $60 million budget.
But Ellison didn’t pack his bags just yet. In Hollywood, timing is everything and when he saw investment banks pull capital out of media and entertainment during the financial crisis of the late 2000s,...

Matthias Schoenaerts had worked with Kate Winslet before, but never like this. Never as a lackey engaging in a psychosexual power play with a capricious dictator convinced bacteria is flooding her palace. It almost goes without saying that The Regime is far less restrained than Schoenaerts and Winslet’s previous screen romance, the largely forgotten 2014 period film A Little Chaos.
“We both were like, ‘Ok, so what is this mad piece of work that we’re reading?’ ” Schoenaerts says of his first conversation with Winslet about the HBO limited series. “ ‘Is it a comedy? Is it a drama? Is it both?’ We were trying to figure out what the tone was going to be.”

“If Beale Street Could Talk” was one of the best films of 2018. Since then, we’ve been watching the young actress in the lead, KiKi Layne, and waiting for her star to keep rising. To be fair, she’s done some high-profile gigs since, including “The Old Guard” and “Coming 2 America,” but nothing that has really caught our eye since ‘Beale Street.’ From the looks of it, “Dandelion” could be that film.

This article contains spoilers for Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age.
You know the scene. Jon and Martha Kent are making their way home when a bright light illuminates the night sky and a meteor crashes to the ground. The couple investigate the impact and find not space rock, but a young child.
Superhero fans know this moment well. It’s the turning point where infant Kal-El arrives on Earth from Krypton and begins his journey toward becoming Superman. In Gotham by Gaslight‘s telling, however, the Kents exit not a beat-up truck, but a covered wagon. And they travel not through Kansas but the Kansas Territory—under the watchful eye of Chief Black Condor, leader of the Indigenous sovereigns of the land.
For years, DC Comics‘ Elseworlds line allowed creators to reimagine Superman and Batman in different contexts, leading to classics such as Batman and Dracula: Red Rain and Superman: Red Son.

It’s been less than two years since TV exec Matt Thunell left Netflix to become president of Skydance Television. And in that time, Thunell — who previously ran spectacle and event programming at the streamer — has completed his first major assignment from Skydance boss David Ellison and chief creative officer Dana Goldberg: doubling their TV series output.
Today, Skydance has five series in active production: Amazon’s “Reacher” and “Cross,” Netflix’s “Fubar,” Apple TV+’s’ “Foundation” and “The Big Door Prize,” as well as five new series orders setup across Amazon, Apple TV+ and Netflix, including a comedy, a YA series, an action series starring Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham, and a bull rider project led by Tim McGraw.
Skydance Television has also signed a first-look TV deal with filmmakers Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood’s Undisputed Cinema. The partners are about to sell their first series from the producing couple,...

The movie genre of actions is often associated with the male leading characters who fight for the world’s peace or power. However, there are some female action leads who make their movies stand out among the great number of the genre’s features.
Here are 7 of the most memorable female-led action movies, chosen by Redditors.
Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003)
This martial arts feature probably comes first to mind in this respect, as Uma Thurman’s Bride is one of the most deadly and cultish onscreen assassins in history. Everyone saw Quentin Tarantino’s timeless masterpiece at least once in their lives, and it’s worth it.
Aliens (1986)
Long before the modern action heroines, 38 years ago, Sigourney Weaver starred as the courageous survivor of an alien attack, Ellen Ripley, who manages to go head-to-head with the Xenomorph and defeat it, unlike the great number of people around her.

Charlize Theron proved to be a fine action star appearing in Mad Max: Fury Road, Atomic Blonde, and several other remarkable action-packed films. But doing action movies is not always easy, and Theron has endured the nightmarish effects of it on her body and mind.

Still, there is no stopping for the actor. She puts herself up to every challenge possible despite the inherent cons attached to it. On-set injuries are not new to the actor as she was almost paralyzed after a neck injury after filming a scene in the 2005 Karyn Kusama-directed sci-fi action flick, Æon Flux. But she sustained permanent damage to her body after working in a film by the John Wick director.

Netflix stuck the landing on a star-studded exhibition match between tennis superstars Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz this weekend. Stakes were high on the court, but the Las Vegas showdown was most effective as a lush advertisement for the streamer as a fledgling live sports destination.
Taking over the Mandalay Bay’s Michelob Ultra Arena, the inaugural Netflix Slam pit legend Nadal against 20-year-old Alcaraz. Rafa, as Nadal is affectionately known to millions of global fans, had not played since a hip injury flared up in 2023. Nadal has only faced Alcaraz a handful of times in his career and wound up losing to the prodigy in a nail-biting tie break.
No one really lost, though. Least of all Netflix. Branding was so pervasive in the hotel and casino that pedestrians lined up 100 deep to take photos in front of a “Netflix Slam” sign, installed on a massive wall of tennis balls.

Credit: Amy Spinks/Netflix Fans of The Old Guard have a new sequel to look forward to (Via Collider) Though a release date has not yet been set, filming wrapped in 2022, and those involved have teased that the sequel’s in the late stages of post-production. The original movie became one of Netflix’s top-watched titles to date when it was originally released in 2020, and it also won over the critics, who praised the film as not being an ordinary superhero film. That particularly pleased the movie’s star, Charlize Theron, said everyone involved with the film was excited because of the way it pushed the envelope of the superhero genre. Over the course of her career, Gina Prince-Bythewood has proven she can do it all. Across five films and roughly 20 years, she had made an enduring romantic sports story, a southern family drama, a pop star star-crossed romance, a superhero fantasy action film, and a feminist historical epic. And with every new genre the filmmaker has ticked off her list, Prince-Bythewood has shown a mastery for its particularities every time.
Born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Pacific Grove, California, Prince-Bythewood attended University of California in Los Angeles, where she studied film and graduated in 1991. After several years as a writer on TV shows like “A Different World” and “South Central,” her first film, 2000’s “Love and Basketball,” was released to critical acclaim. After several years without any Star Wars films, the Daisy Ridley/ Rey spin-off movie is set to bring the franchise back to the big screen, with director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoyn at the helm.
Obaid-Chinoy – who will become the first female and person of color to direct a movie in the franchise with the upcoming trilogy launcher (set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker) – recently expressed her excitement on being tied to Star Wars and the importance of having a female director. “I’m very thrilled about the project because I feel what we’re about to create is something very special…We’re in 2024 now, and it’s about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.” That’s no doubt a strong voice but her latter point might be worth discussion here.

A new live-action film adaptation of author Tomi Adeyemi’s fantasy novel trilogy “Children of Blood and Bone” will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (“The Old Guard”) for Paramount Pictures:
“…’Zélie Adebola’ remembers when the soil of ‘Orïsha’ hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zélie’s ‘Reaper’ mother summoned forth souls. But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, ‘maji’ were killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.
“Now Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good. Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers...

There is movement for Paramount's plan to turn Tomi Adeyemi‘s novel Children Of Blood And Bone into film. According to Deadline, :a[The Old Guard]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/the-old-guard/' } and :a[The Woman King]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/the-woman-king/' } director Gina Prince-Bythewood is jumping aboard to direct.
Adeyemi‘s book is set in a fantasy realm where, 11 years ago, Zelie and Tzain lost their mother, and all of Orisha lost magic. The maji were rounded up and slaughtered by King Saran’s orders, and the diviners became second-class citizens, oppressed so they would never rise up again.
But all of that changes when a scroll turns up that has the ability to grant magic to the diviners, changing them into maji. The answer becomes clear to Zelie: they must bring magic back.
For Amari, the princess, the path is less clear. Though...
