Exclusive: Director, writer and executive producer Jonathan Levine has signed with WME for representation.

Levine directed the entire first season of Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers, starring Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy. He is currently in post-production on the second season, of which he directed four episodes and is also an executive producer.

He is also an executive producer on Prime Video’s new series The Sticky, through his production company Megamix Inc., which he co-founded with Gillian Bohrer.

The company has a first-look deal with Lionsgate, extending a longtime collaboration between the parties, which began on the 2011 Golden Globe-nominated film, 50/50, starring Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon Levitt. The relationship continued with 2013’s Warm Bodies, as well as the 2019 comedy Long Shot, led by Rogen and Charlize Theron.

Richardson-Sellers will next be seen in a lead role on the upcoming second season of Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers opposite Nicole Kidman. She most recently was seen starring in Hulu’s LGBTQ+ psychological horror film Jagged Mind, directed by Kelley Kali.

Richardson-Sellers previously starred opposite Mark Rylance and Simon Pegg in the six-part cyber-thriller from Peter Kosminsky, The Undeclared War, currently streaming on Channel 4 and Peacock. The book is billed as “a vibrant, candid look at what it means to be ‘successful’ in today’s world.” It follows 30-year-old A-list stylist Kit Cooper who is restless despite her success.

The 57-year-old Babygirl actress is working on a series adaptation of Liane Moriarty‘s new novel Here One Moment.

The project reunites her with Liane after their collaboration on HBO’s acclaimed Big Little Lies, Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers and the upcoming Australian series The Last Anniversary, via Deadline.

The mystery thriller was published last month by Crown Publishing, and sees passengers on a plane journey later succumb to the clairvoyant predictions of a mysterious passenger known as “The Death Lady.”

The Amazon-owned streamer has greenlit Scarpetta, a crime drama based on author Patricia Cornwell’s best-selling series of novels about Virginia medical examiner Kay Scarpetta. The series, in the works for more than a year, landed a two-season order at Prime Video; Nicole Kidman will play the title character and star opposite Jamie Lee Curtis. Kidman and Curtis will also be executive producers.

In addition to Kidman and Curtis, the show has lined up an A-list cast that includes Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, Ariana DeBose, Rosy McEwen and Jake Cannavale.

The series comes from Yellowstone producers MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios and showrunner Richard Lagravenese (Behind the Candelabra). Harrison Query and Tommy Wallach, who sold the project to MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, and Lagravenese are writing.

Anne Sewitsky (Presumed Innocent) has also signed on to direct four of the eight episodes in the series.

Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen are set to lead a limited series on the JonBenét Ramsey case at Paramount+, Variety has learned.

The show was first reported to be in the works back in March, but it had not landed at Paramount+ at that time. McCarthy and Owen will star as JonBenét’s parents, Patsy and John Bennett Ramsey.

It’s surprising that it’s taken this long for someone to adapt an Elin Hilderbrand novel into a binge-ready TV series. Known as “the Queen of the beach reads,” Hilderbrand’s Nantucket-set sagas are loaded with sex, scandals, rich people problems and interior decor porn that would put Nancy Meyers to shame.

Eve Hewson and Murray Bartlett are set for two of the lead roles in the Hulu comedy pilot “Downforce,” Variety has learned.

The pilot was originally picked up at the streamer back in May. Per the official logline, “When the owner of a storied racing team’s estranged daughter is thrust back into the family business, they have to find common ground or risk destroying the team’s legacy.”

Grace Van Patten and Jackson White return as Lucy and Stephen, respectively, who reunite at college as exes following their dramatic breakup at the beginning of summer. The exes have to deal with not only the fallout of their split, but also the ripple effects that Season 1’s dramatics had on their friend group.

Season 2 will also welcome in several new faces to the fold, including “Gossip Girl” star Thomas Doherty and “Lucifer” star Tom Ellis.

Lit agent Claire Lundberg came to the defense of the U.S. studios during a debate on the books-to-tv business here in Edinburgh this morning.

Lundberg, CEO and founder of Paris-based Ctl Scouting, said, “American studios get dinged for buying a lot and not making a whole lot,” but that this didn’t always reflect the reality.

Writers or preferred producers being unavailable, or debates with the work’s author are among the issues that can slow down development after an option, she said, adding: “It’s like pushing jello up a hill.”

Talking on a panel about literary IP here at the Edinburgh TV Festival this morning, Lundberg said that between “40-50%” of everything on television is adapted from existing IP, even with prices rising massively over recent years.

Prime Video has announced that the Australian Original The Office will premiere on October 18. The comedy series is the thirteenth version of the global hit juggernaut franchise and has the first-ever female lead in the iconic role, comedian and actor Felicity Ward who plays Hannah Howard, Managing Director of Flinley Craddick.
